I didn't know this about the tattoo, I just knew it was from Hans' painting. This explanation says so much about Adam. Haveron himself explained the meaning behind the image, saying, “In ‘Sepia’s Secret’ there is the female “goddess,” her cloak outstretched to protect two children, symbols of innocence and counterpoint to the ego. They hold a large key. Above the goddess is the all-seeing eye of the universe, with its keyhole shaped pupil.”
The painter went on to say, “The point of the story is that the child holds the key to unlock the wisdom of the universe. Therefore all of us but especially artists of all types must always make sure the child is present. The most difficult part of being an artist is the battle against the ego to let the child prevail so the art can be made. The child is the creator. If the ego gets too big, the child dies and so will your art.”popcrush.com/celeb-tattoos-answer-18/

I have never seen Underneath as being just about gay prejudice. The lyrics apply equally to anyone who has experienced discrimination or been shunned for any reason.
From kindergarten through high school, I was subjected to verbal and physical bullying by classmates, which left permanent scars. Back in those days, school officials and even parents didn't take bullying seriously; the only support I got was advice to "Ignore them...they're jealous," or "They're just being kids." Not much help when you're trying to cope with daily punches and kicks, ruined clothing and books, and insults ranging from "ugly freak" to "Pig - you don't deserve to live."
The first time I heard Underneath, I cried for hours, for Adam and all the hate he has had to live with, and because of all the old emotions the song dredged up from my past. It took real guts for Adam to reach down inside himself and share that pain with the world; only a very enlightened, beautiful soul can do something like that. I never could. He has done all of us a service by reminding us of the damage we cause to others (and our own souls) when we treat them badly.
I wish more of the reviewers who have blasted Underneath would understand and respect that.Yes. I think some people, some of them even fans, squirm out of their seats when they hear how raw and emotionally expressive Underneath is. Perhaps it is too fierce for many to bear. I happen to love it for many of the same reasons you wrote about here, haribert. Thank you for being brave enough to write what you did here today. I think when some people hear the hurt, anger, and self-recrimination of Underneath they just recoil with a dismissive "overwrought," not wanting to believe it is "a world of truth." YES

Oh god. So Cassidy, Roxy, Johnny, they all come from this circle! I had no idea. And this: Hans says Adam's choice makes complete sense as he does an amazing job of keeping his ego in check and calling on his child to create. He is a pure spirit who loves helping his friends. As for Lambert's art, despite his success he still doesn't settle for less than his best. I'm sorry, this is old stuff, but I'm so happy for learning this. Thank you, Gelly! You are an
