Kind of surprises me how many reviewers don't like Underneath. Maybe only Adam fans can truly appreciate the vulnerablility of that song? Or maybe, this UK reviewer, isn't sensitive enough to the gay prejudice over her? IDK? :-/
I have never seen Underneath as being just about gay prejudice. The lyrics apply equally to anyone who has experienced discrimination or been shunned for any reason.
From kindergarten through high school, I was subjected to verbal and physical bullying by classmates, which left permanent scars. Back in those days, school officials and even parents didn't take bullying seriously; the only support I got was advice to "Ignore them...they're jealous," or "They're just being kids." Not much help when you're trying to cope with daily punches and kicks, ruined clothing and books, and insults ranging from "ugly freak" to "Pig - you don't deserve to live."
The first time I heard Underneath, I cried for hours, for Adam and all the hate he has had to live with, and because of all the old emotions the song dredged up from my past. It took real guts for Adam to reach down inside himself and share that pain with the world; only a very enlightened, beautiful soul can do something like that. I never could. He has done all of us a service by reminding us of the damage we cause to others (and our own souls) when we treat them badly.
I wish more of the reviewers who have blasted Underneath would understand and respect that.I have never thought of Underneath as a gay song either. I have never been subjected to any of the treatment you lived through. Even so, I love this song and the way he sings it. Maybe I just like "overwraught" performances. :-/ I think this whole album is similar to FYE in that reviewers' opinions about favorite songs are as varied as the fans. And I am glad for the variety on this album. I'm not so much interested in the first half of the album except for Kickin' In and Shady. When reviewers are very excited about the dance songs, they often think the rest is dull. I often find my tastes quite different from reviewers--even those who like the album. Personal taste--as with all things. |

Another interpretation might be that he's a star whose singing is very demanding (as in incredible)? Just a guess, since we know he's so low maintenance. nope... ??? Но так, как концерт благотворительный и Queen в свое время потеряли своего лидера из-за СПИДа, то райдер свой артисты значительно ужали. they are talking about the requests that were stipulated in the concert contract. They are saying that the organizer said this about Queen: "Their new frontman Adam Lambert is one of the most demanding stars. But since this is a charity concert and Queen has lost their frontman to AIDS they have reduced their demands".... no other meaning here... I think they misinterpreted what they've heard ...He probably asked for water and veggies... ;D Maybe he specified a particular brand of water... :  |
