I always see Adam as a little puppy. A bambi deer is nice, but I still like a snuggly puppy. Wish I had a picture of a puppy snuggling. Anybody have one?

Language is so goddamn limiting and problematical that I swear there are times I wish I could communicate using solely emoticons and interpretive dance. But that's limiting, too, and none of you can see me dancing . . . Speaking of trying to cram human experience into words, I got the biggest kick out of the big old mouthful of seemingly debate-proof qualifiers Adam has apparently memorized to describe himself: "one-of-the-first" (not THE first) (deep breath) "mainstream" (there are underground precedents) "openly gay" (inflection-implied air quotes) "alternative" (hm . . . isn't that oppositie of "mainstream"?) "pop-singers" (other genres might have precedents) "to-be-signed-to-a-major-label" (not Indie) "in the States" (UK - been there, done that). Whew! But if he is going to have to wear a label, dammit! then Adam Lambert is going to create it. foxallaccess.blogs.fox.com/2011/03/19/from-pressure-to-privilege-adam-lambert-on-being-a-role-model/Just a question ---- The UK major label gay artists were signed and released albums before they came out as far as I know. Bowie, Elton, Boy George, Freddy/Queen, George Micheal -- all released albums and had hits before they came out. There is a gay Australian UK-based, Sam Sparro, who was signed by Island and had a hit single in the UK -- Black & Gold. But that was not until April 2008. Who is the gay UK major label gay artist who was out and then released their first album or single? (Sure there is one, but who is it?) As far as I can determine -- Adam is the first openly gay American to be signed to a major label. There are no underground predecessors. There are not others. I believe that Adam is the First Openly Gay Artist to release a Major Label Debut Album in the US since 1945 with a major label promotional budget, broad radio support and US retail distribution.
Two openly gay artists with major label contract but not distribution before Adam are Sam Sparro and Ferras. Sam's UK hit "Black and Gold" was only a Dance Club hit in the US. His debut album was not distributed to US retail and was primarily a digital album in the US. (Did not chart on US Billboard 200.) The other is Ferras Alqaisi -- debut album sold 27,000 copies. He was signed to Capital but the album was not distributed widely -- initially it was digital only, followed by a limited release CD. Ferras had support from Idol like AdamFerras' ""Hollywood's Not America" peaked at #62 in the US mostly on sales driven by its use as the Idol Exit song for AI7 (2008). It peaked at #32 on Billboard Mainstream Top 40 (airplay), the highest radio position of any new gay artist until Adam. Who am I missing? Surely someone? The one I see thrown around the most is Jobraith. Here is the wiki page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jobriath which contains the following quote referencing events around 1972 During this period, Brandt continued making extravagant statements such as "Elvis, the Beatles and Jobriath" and declaring that both he and Jobriath had booked flights on Pan American's first passenger flight to the moon. Meanwhile, Jobriath declared himself "rock's truest fairy", a comment that did little to increase his popularity at the time but has since confirmed his status as the first openly gay rock singer to be signed to a major record label.[12][13]

I agree! I mean, let's think about this for a sec-- organic and real for Adam isn't gonna be a song about sitting in a dive bar sobbing into his Miller Light about the girl who stole his heart and his pet duck. Just spit out my diet coke! That's hilarious!

I believe the first openly gay solo artist signed to a major label contract for their debut is Will Young. He came out (forced by a UK Tabloid) in March 2002. He was signed to RCA/BMG. I do not think the album was released in the US -- it certainly did not chart in the US. In fact, can't find him on the US charts at all. So if it is released in the US and distributed to US retail -- I still am with Adam. I believe I remember Ferras stating that he was not out to his record label when he was signed initially although they were probably well aware. He was not officially out to his label until after the boot song was on Idol and he does believe that officially coming out to them dried up his support at the label and he was subsequently dropped. He stated that he had seen a definite change within the industry peeps after Adam was signed and officially out and I think he has been recently signed to a new label. Don't know any more than that. I believe this info was in a print interview where he was specifically asked about whether his sexuality had anything to do with him being dropped and what effect Adam being out had had in the industry. Scissor Sisters have also commented that they felt that they had a much better chance at mainstream success now that Adam is out there.

Everyone seems to be worried about Adam changing, and it is inevitable that there will be some changes. As the mother of two grown sons, I know that between the ages of 28 and around 33 the growth is monumental. I saw two men turn from grown boys into grown men, good fathers, with great work ethics, reduced drinking, no smoking, began to take being a role model for their children seriously, walked taller, spoke softer, etc. I think this happens to all of us at some age. I remember thinking after the AMAs that I couldn't wait to see Adam in five years because I knew he would be a whole different person. I don't mean that he would have children or be married but that he will have a whole different outlook on his business, himself, his career, and all the people who mean something to him. Somehow life starts to look different to you the older you get and so many things you think are important in your 20's become unimportant in your 30s, 40s, etc. Life is change. Adam is going to dazzle the world until the day he leaves it. I am sure of that. I want to see him in movies, and I want him to do a play/musical on Boardway so I can go to NYC and see it. I am so excited for all the things he is going to do in his life and just hope I can remain alive long enough to see the best that is yet to come.

As I said earlier today, my take on Adam saying the next album is more organic and honest is that it will have more meaning for him. He will write songs that come from his crazy experiences the last 2 years and I think trying to process it all. I like what No angel said about his real life experiences including drag queens and partying in Paris with Ke$ha! I don't think album 2 will be boring!

The part about the "pants" that was so amazing was they were cross-cultural and language was no barrier. Around the world they shouted "I love you Adam" and they didn't speak English. The pants speak a universal language. So I suggest our diplomats wear the "pants" and maybe we can get something done on this planet, as in working together. Let's all wear the pants! I can just see... Glenn Beck in the lace -up pants. *gagging* Sorry. I'm back on p. 15, but jsyk, I may have to kill you for that. Sorry. I love you, but it's bigger than the both of us.

My, oh, my! Did she have a difficult time in school with kids teasing her? It makes me think of a name I saw awhile back in the obituaries. The guy's name was Woodrow Dickey. His nickname was printed under his name: Woody. Woody Dickey. Oddly enough, on the same page was an obituary for a woman whose first name was Fairie, but her nickname was Butch. I'd love to know the story behind that! My neighbor and her sister were born in the 40's, so Gaye didn't get the school razzing. Then she married young and, of course, no one knew her maiden name, unless she told them. This is way OT so I apologize in advance but this discussion made me want to share unnecessary but funny info. My parents were friends with a man named Gaylon Bars. (Or Barz...not sure of the spelling but the pronunciation is bars.) And yes, people used to shorten his nickname to Gay. As he grew older and gay bars became more known in the public sphere, he got into the habit of always using his full name but some elite friends still use the nickname. It cracked me up as a child.
