Thank you soo much for your kind welcome! well, I discovered this topic because I 'googled' a Brian quote about one of his songs (because I wanted to know which interview it was taken from) and one of the google results was this thread as talon reported the same Brian quote here I guess. I don't know much about Adam actually, so far I just listened to his job with Brian and Roger and perhaps some covers (Led Zep's Whole Lotta Love, is that possible?) to be honest, I'm here mostly to talk about Queen things...but who knows? I might become an Adam fan too!

Talon, thanks so much for all the background on how you fell in love with Queen! But you were still pretty young when you finally "fell down the rabbit hole" after the Tribute Concert! I love reading about people's musical journeys!

Disclaimer: In case you hadn't noticed, I am completely shallow 99.99% of the time.Having said that... I think "The Works" era was an unfortunate time for John Deacon's hair. Just sayin'. ETA: And I was just thinking, talon, that right around the time you got totally hooked, John Deacon left. Right?

HI everybody!! I'm a big Queen fan from Milan, Italy (so, first of all, I apologize for any possible mistake with the english language. I hope there won't be many!) I really enjoyed this topic and I must say THANK YOU talon! you really are my American Idol! ;D. Hi there! Great name from a great song :D It's good to see you here! Talon, I so enjoy your obvious passion for Queen and hearing the path that got you there. It is amazing how it doesn't always hit us immediately but when it does it really does. Kinda the same for me and Adam. I have been wanting to ask for a while but figured you already told your story once and I should have just remembered: so why did you come to ATop, and where are you in terms of an Adam fan now? And BTW, still LOVING this thread and especialy the anecdotal parts! I don't mind repeating myself a bit if necessary So never be afraid to ask! I came to ATop right after QAL Kiev. I was interested to see the reaction to the show from the other side of the fence and admittedly was hoping for a slightly more positive viewpoint than some of the hardcore purist Queen fan When I was welcomed so warmly I decided to stick around. Now I knew AL before his stint with Queen and always considered myself a casual fan so I was happy they decided to give it a shot... In terms of an Adam fan now...well I have all his albums and even the Trespassing EP (which if I am to be honest, I probably wouldn't have bought if not for wanting to help you guys out - Just not something I do for anyone that's not either in Queen or in Extreme ) I still feel that Adam has a wonderful voice whose full potential hasn't quite been reached in his own music yet. I think his voice raises his material though and I thought he put on a helluva show when I saw him the one time on tour I will certainly buy a new album he puts out because I want to support his talent and if he did a Trespassing tour that reached around me I would definitely go and see him again with or without Queen...of course with Queen would be my choice I think I mentioned before that I would like to see Adam try a more organic approach. Team up with a songwriter and a full time band that goes in the studio with him and develop songs in that fashion. Talon, thanks so much for all the background on how you fell in love with Queen! But you were still pretty young when you finally "fell down the rabbit hole" after the Tribute Concert! I love reading about people's musical journeys! I was a young 15 at the time of the Tribute Concert - hard to imagine but I've been a Queen fan for well over half my life now Disclaimer: In case you hadn't noticed, I am completely shallow 99.99% of the time.Having said that... I think "The Works" era was an unfortunate time for John Deacon's hair. Just sayin'. Are you kidding? John's hair during this era was AWESOME The white man fro....I just kept wondering how big that fro was gonna go! John often had some unfortunate fashion choices...In fact during the Magic tour he wore the shortest of shorts at time even having a wardrobe malfunction of sorts at one point...Not sure if I should find/post that vid Not QUITE....He left at the end of 1997 about five years later. Of course there was not a lot of actual Queen activity during those years. There was the big posthumous album in 1995 and what is considered the final Queen song in 1997 but it's not like they were a really active unit at the time. And any public event was always Brian or Roger so you're not really wrong either.

Tear It UpWritten by: Brian May Musicians: Freddie Mercury - lead vocals Brian May - guitars, backing vocals John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums, tambourine, backing vocals - A real short and to the point rocker. - Played live in 1984 and 1986 and resurrected by Brian during his 1998 solo tour when Brian did a "walk down memory lane" medley. It was played one more time as a snippet segued from and back into We Will Rock You when Brian & Roger appeared with the We Will Rock You Cast on Al Murray's TV show in the UK. OFFICIALLY RELEASED LIVE LIVE AT WEMBLEY- Both open with clips from Liar all the way back from the first album! HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY 1986- Audio only UNOFFICIAL LIVE BRIAN MAY - LIVE IN AUSTRALIA 1998- Obviously featuring a BUNCH of songs in there including some we haven't gotten to yet But Tear It Up is in the medley! PERSONAL NOTES: - To me this is an okay song. I'm REALLY glad to hear the band go back to a rock sound BUT it is kind of derivative of past works...and is nothing special. BUT it is a good quick jab in concert and the lyrics are funny but it's nothing I reach to put on. NEXT UP: The greatest song on the album by far (imo) and to me one of Freddie's greatest songs of the 80s... It's A Hard Life

Radio Ga Ga- “I seem to participate more on John’s or Roger’s tracks. They let me help them and suggest more things. Brian’s got his own sort of writing ideas and they are very strong to start with anyway. I don’t seem to be able to get into his ideas as much. But in a way that’s quite good. I’d rather leave it to him, and it doesn’t tmean I just stay out of it altogether. I let him sort of do a lot of it. Whereas with John’s songs or Roger’s songs, I’m sort of getting there at the early stage. They don’t mind me sort of tearing it apart and then piecing it back together again. Every way. Sometimes I’ll take the whole song over. Like ‘Radio Ga Ga’. I just instantly felt that there was something, there was going to be something in there. You could build that into a really good, strong, saleable commodity. And I think Roger was just thinking about it as just another track. And I just said, ‘No, I think it needs..’ So I virtually took it over. And he went on a holiday skiing for about a week…and he said, ‘Okay, you do what you want.” – Freddie Mercury Hah! I can't imagine anybody invading Brian's space. Being a perfectionist, he seems to consider his artisitc creations .... perfect ;D ETA: Remember "not on my song" comment in AI-5?
Not true, per BM :D www.tv.com/news/queens-may-lashes-out-at-idol-4132/Talon, the first time Queen performed RGG, did the audience catch on right away with the clapping because of the video or did the group/Freddie coach them?

Oh I remember that quite well. I have the old vids of Queen's appearances through the years! To be honest I can't be certain. There isn't many videos of that tour out there so all I can say is that I've never seen a show without them aping the video So I'd say that they didn't need much coaxing!

It's A Hard LifeWritten by: Freddie Mercury Musicians: Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, piano Brian May - guitars, backing vocals John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums, backing vocals - Issued as a single in the US where it hit #72 and the UK where it hit #6. Worldwide it hit #87 in Australia but did not chart in The Netherlands or Japan. - Played live through 1985 and then dropped only to be resurrected once in 2010 for the Prince's Trust charity with Tom Chaplin of Keane. - The video was ALL Freddie. In fact the rest of the band HATED doing this video as you can tell by watching their faces. Roger and John specifically hated even being there that day and they sat back and made fun of Freddie's giant prawn costume! QUOTES: - Brian responds to a question about the skull guitar from the 'It's A Hard Life' video: "It's more of a prop than anything else. You can just about play it, but it was made especially for the video. But it was made more for the looks than anything else. Yes, I have played it, but you won't find it on any record I'm afraid." - Brian May - November 16th, 1997 - "To my mind this is one of the most beautiful songs that Freddie ever wrote. It's straight from the heart, and he really opened up during the creation of it, I sat with him for hours and hours and hours just trying pull it away and get the most out of it. It's one of his loveliest songs." - Brian May - 2003 ALTERNATE RELEASED VERSIONS: 12" EXTENDED VERSION- ESSENTIAL! - Adds an a capella choir as well as an extraordinary Freddie vocal line not in the orignal. My favorite version! UNRELEASED VERSIONS: DEMO SNIPPET- NOT ESSENTIAL but interesting - A bit from a convention with an alternate intro. OFFICIALLY RELEASED LIVE VERSION: LIVE IN RIO - 1985- Probably the best live version of the song! UNRELEASED LIVE VERSION: QUEEN + TOM CHAPLIN - PRINCE'S TRUST 2010- This was QUITE a surprise to see this reappear in the setlist and Tom does a phenomenal job! - This was one night where Brian began showing his age...He says that the band hadn't performed this live before! Um Brian...you did a whole two tours playing it (If you YT the FULL concert from this, you'll find those comments) PERSONAL NOTES: - I LOVE this song. I always have. My favorite track from The Works and one of my favorite 80s Queen songs and hell one of my fav Queen songs period. It stems from that same stem of Play The Game and Somebody To Love - a big piano power ballad - beautiful! Next up? Freddie had so much fun on Crazy Little Thing that he wants to try that era again - Man On The Prowl
