- Issued as a single backed with ‘Rotwang’s Party (Robot Dance)’ (which had no Freddie involvement) in September 1984 in the US (where it hit #69) and in the UK (where it hit #10) Interestingly, Queen’s own single at the time – Hammer to Fall – only climbed to #13. Also issued in September 1984 in Australia (where it did not chart) Canada, The Netherlands (where it hit #32), Italy, Japan (where it did not chart), and Mexico. Issued as a promo with unknown B-Sides in 2000 in Italy.
- Used on the soundtrack for the film Metropolis
- Originally this was tried as a Queen demo and in 2000 Brian stated that the released version almost certainly contains his guitar and Roger's programmed drums. Since it was a Queen track, it wouldn't be far fetched to say that John's bass is also included but it does sound more like a synth bass.
- There were many remixes made of this track but Freddie never tried it live.

A very merry Christmas to you all

- Issued as a single backed by ‘Man On The Prowl’ and ‘Keep Passing The Open Windows’ in November 1984 in the UK (where it hit #21), in Brazil, Germany, The Netherlands (where it did not chart), Italy, and Portugal.

- The band decided to put together a Christmas single and both Brian and Roger put forth possibilities. Roger put forth this song while Brian put forth a song entitled I Dream Of Christmas...which we will see later on. They chose to work on Roger's track and Brian put forth a lot of effort to make it work and voila!

- The band never attempted this live.

PERSONAL NOTES:
- I disagree with Brian...as I think his song was the superior choice. This is not a bad song at all however and is a nice holiday tune.

A little background:

Actually I don't know much. I know that Queen had jumped ship to Capitol records so I think Capitol wanted their own compilation despite Greatest Hits being released only 3 years prior. Of course it's superfluous to Greatest Hits as it contains all tracks with a few Hot Space tracks thrown in for good measure.

Now we venture into the 1984 Works Tour which is named as such because there is a 1985 Works Tour. It is a very interesting time for the band. Having not toured in 1983 it had been a long time between live dates and the band was trying to incorporate new songs as well as a new keyboardist. Keyboardist Spike Edney joins the tour as the keyboardist after Fred Mandel was hired away for a different tour. It must have been fate as Spike has worked with the band and it's members ever since. There was a brief andecdote from Spike about his "audition" where he went in all prepared and the band was unsure of some of the songs and he had to re-teach them!

The tour is one of the favorites of the fanbase for the simple reason that it was the best setlist the band had produced in awhile. They brought back a lot of old school favorites (albeit in shortened medley form) and the fans ate it up. On the flipside though Roger used a lot of electronic drums and Spike's keyboards were a bit heavy at times.

It is quite telling that the band drops all of the Hot Spacematerial except for Under Pressure(which really was pre-Hot Space anyways) and Staying Power (which lasted only the first few shows anyways.

Some important notes. Towards the end of the Hanover gig, Freddie falls down the steps, injures his knee and is helped to the piano where he finishes three songs cutting the set short losing Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Radio Ga Ga, and I Want To Break Free He is able to finish the tour after he recovers.

The final tour dates are the famous gigs in Sun City which would haunt the band for quite awhile. Sun City was in the middle of Apartheid South Africa. The Musicians Union were boycotting Sun City due to the Apartheid regime. Queen decided to break that embargo for various reasons. Freddie got in trouble for a typical off the cuff comment that everyone took to heart "There's a lot of money to be made..." In truth the band thought they could do more by performing there to an integrated audience and speaking out against apartheid. Their empassioned pleas were denied and the union fined the band. The band agreed to pay the fine as long as it went to charity. Protestors would follow them during 1985 and there is conjecture that Sun City was the reason Bob Geldof didn't ask the band to appear on the Band Aid track Do They Know It's Christmas. Luckily enough time had passed for Bob to ask them to do Live Aid!
