Talon, what's your take of Dr. Bri's tweet last night: Dr. Brian May @DrBrianMayYou guys talk about Adam Lambert a lot. Good ! He's fabulous. We do keep in touch and we do talk about possible future collaborations.
Collab for another QAL tour (please, please please!) or collab for Adam's next album ?
BTW, agree with your assessment re: TSMGO (Freddie's) and WWTLF (Adam's interpretation and delivery)! Although of all the TSMGO QAL my favorite version was the EMA (wish it was the full version instead of the shortened one) and Hammersmith/London2 version.
ETA: Don't laugh.... I was not familiar with WWTLF lyrics so when Adam performed this in Kiev I thought I heard him sing " Touch my Wa-Wa with your fingertips". I was tearing up and giggling at the same time because I thought he forgot the lyrics and sang Wa-Wa to replace whatever word was missing. I thought well, he'll correct it in Moscow and heard the same thing again. I then looked up the lyrics and it was "WORLD" but he pronounced/sang the "O" with an "A" . Whew!
I'm still smiling whenever I play the WWTLF and comes to "Touch my world with your fingertips" line...

I thought the Hammersmith 3 WWTLF was sublime! My favorite video of it is this black and white; I am to admit that though I've been listening to that song for years I never realized until today that Brian May sang the first verse in the official version. I really like the Kelly Ellis/Adam Pascal rendition. It seems Adam Pascal is the only other male who has gone for that high 'Ours!' at he end.

Collab for another QAL tour (please, please please!) or collab for Adam's next album ? Honestly and maybe I should respond to this in the main board too but I'm lazy right now Maybe it's a bit of both. I wouldn't be shocked at all. I think as far as his MUSIC itself goes, the most press/reaction he got this year was his work with Queen. I mean he got some press about various things but musically, Queen was probably his #1. The record company would have noticed that. I wouldn't be shocked if they asked for a more rock related album and to see if he could get some assistance from Brian and/or Roger. And as for Brian I have no doubt's he'd collaborate in the studio with Adam on something...although to be honest, he's been a bit lazier in years too...I would bet it more likely that he would come in and throw down a solo or two on a track than a full on writing collaboration but you never know. But since he said collaborations...I would bet there's at least been mention of both studio and live. We'll have to wait and see. Hopefully Brian's knee gets better for him. Hammersmith 2 was Adam's best Show Must Go On I think. 3 was good too. I just remember hating Kiev because he was so flat for the first verse. But he made up for it in Hammersmith! That's funny!!!! I actually initially thought that Freddie sang "Touch my ears (instead of tears) with your lips" I thought the Hammersmith 3 WWTLF was sublime! I am to admit that though I've been listening to that song for years I never realized until today that Brian May sang the first verse in the official version. That's actually quite common! I didn't realize it when I first heard it either. I actually prefer Brian singing the first verse. It makes for a nice build in power when Brian's singing in his softer wistful style and then it builds to Freddie's powerhouse voice. It works quite well within the context of the song! It does seem that way and I wonder if Adam saw/heard that performance (or perhaps Brian referenced it to him in rehearsals) as that was not in the original arrangement... Good comments!!! Agreed Day 3 was phenomenal. All three Hammersmith performances were golden though!

Gimme The Prize (Kurgan's Theme)Written by: Brian May Musicians: Freddie Mercury - lead vocals Brian May - guitars John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums - A return to hard rock form for the band, this was written as the theme of the Highlander bad guy, Kurgan. - Reportedly according to Brian, Freddie and John were not big fans of the song which might explain why it was never done live...or perhaps it's because it would be killer on a voice to try to do it on tour night after night! - Incorporates some dialogue from the film. QUOTE: - "There's a song called 'The Prize', and that is a song which is based around the Kurgan's theme, which... The Kurgan is the bad guy in the Highlander and I wrote this piece for him, and then once the film was out of the way I was able to make it into a complete song." - Brian May – 1986 ALTERNATE RELEASED VERSIONS SINGLE MIX- NOT ESSENTIAL - Mostly instrumental. PERSONAL NOTES: - I LOVE this song. Yes it is a bit stupid, but it is big, brash, and in your face and Freddie rocks it! I also love Brian's bagpipe guitar solo! It was a great reminder that Queen could still rock your socks off if they chose to. Next up? Roger's worst song, imo (sorry I know it's supposed to be enticing...but I can't manage much here ) Don't Lose Your Head

Talon, thank you for your comments RE: Queen and/or Brian colabs....
Glad you are around and yes, feel free to say "HI" on the main board too. Curly posted you made a comment about the colab subject and wanted to see what you think. I need to check here more often - lots of goodies:-)

Don't Lose Your Head
Written by: Roger Taylor
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead vocals, keyboards (?) Roger Taylor - lead vocals, drums, drum machine / programming, keyboards (?) John Deacon - bass guitar, rhythm guitar Brian May - guitars Spike Edney - keyboards (?) Joan Armatrading - incidental vocals
**NOTE - it is not clear who does the keyboards, I've listed the suspects**
- Roger wrote this for Highlander since that is the only way they can be killed. - The references to drinking and driving is because John was caught doing so that year in his porsche!
ALTERNATE RELEASED VERSIONS
B-SIDE MIX NO YT VID - NOT ESSENTIAL - Not much different really - nothing you would even notice.
PERSONAL NOTES: - Really a dreary tune that is too repetitive for me. It does have it's moments but to me Heaven For Everyone a Roger tune worked on during these sessions and eventually released with The Cross before being remade for Made In Heaven was a far superior track.
Next up: Freddie answers Brian's rock song with the tune that ended up as the theme to the Highlander TV series, Princes Of The Universe

Princes Of The Universe
Written by: Freddie Mercury
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, piano, synthesizer Brian May - guitars, backing vocals John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums, backing vocals
- Issued as a single in the US but it did not chart. It also was issued in Australia (where it hit #32), Canada, and Japan. - Inexplicably this track was never attempted live as it would make a great opener or just a great live track in general.
ALTERNATE VERSIONS
TV CREDITS - NO YT VIDEO - NOT ESSENTIAL - it just edits the song down to an opening and closing TV theme.
EARLY TAKE
- ESSENTIAL - Not quite done version, but features some nice alternative takes
HIGHLANDER VERSION
- Another alternative.
PERSONAL NOTES: One of my favs on the album. A real rocking track that is GREAT to scream out to!
Next up? A Three-fer!!! The B-Sides which were all in all songs based on instrumental versions of tracks on the album! Blurred Vision, A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling (Don't Lose Your Head), and Forever

The B-Sides from A Kind Of Magic
First up:
Blurred Vision
Written by: Freddie Mercury/Brian May/Roger Taylor/John Deacon
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - vocals, keyboards Brian May - guitars, occasional vocals, keyboards John Deacon - bass guitar, keyboards Roger Taylor - drums, occasional vocals, keyboards
- The B-Side of One Vision
- Basically just a percussive and mostly instrumental version of One Vision
PERSONAL NOTES: - It is an interesting one or two time listening. Based more solely on the percussion it does get you toe tapping.
Second up:
A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling
Written by: Roger Taylor
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - keyboards Brian May - bass guitar, keyboards, occasional guitar John Deacon - drums, occasional vocals, keyboards Roger Taylor - guitars, keyboards
- A B-Side to A Kind Of Magic
- An instrumental version of Don't Lose Your Head
ALTERNATE RELEASED VERSIONS:
EXTENDED VERSION
- NOT ESSENTIAL - Slightly longer, additional percussion.
PERSONAL NOTES: - Honestly, more interesting than the original song and I don't say that about instrumental versions of songs.
Final up today:
Forever
Written by: Brian May
Musicians:
Brian May - piano, keyboards
- A purely piano version of the track with no vocals. - B-Side to Who Wants To Live Forever
PERSONAL NOTES: - I love this track honestly. Even without vocals, it works as a very beautiful love ballad. Powerful stuff.
Next up? A Two-Fer - Two tracks from the film that didn't make it on the album. Battle Scene and their cover of New York, New York

Highlander Demos! A two-fer
New York, New York
Written by: John Kander/Fred Ebb
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - vocals Brian May - guitars Roger Taylor - drums John Deacon - bass guitar
- From the film Highlander, only this 50 second snippet appears in the film. There are rumors of a full blown version in the vaults somewhere but this has been vehemently denied by QPL for years stating that only the snippet was recorded to fit the film.
PERSONAL NOTES: - If true that is unfortunate. This song is right up Freddie's ally and I would love someday to hear a finished full version of the track. Freddie camps it up and it is phenomenal!
Battle Scene
Written by: Brian May (?)
Musicians:
Brian May: guitars, keyboards (?)
**NOTE - I have no idea on anything really except that it's the Red Special.**
NO YT VID
- Recorded to be a part of Highlander but it never made the cut.
PERSONAL NOTES: It is one of the few non-widely leaked rarities that I possess. I had to promise not to share it so I can't. It is a very haunting melody though. Some nice wails from Brian.
Next up? The OTHER two demos from the sessions - not intended for Highlander. Another two-fer...Brian's Butterfly and Freddie's Back To Storm
