If Freddie was alive, I wonder if any kind of Queen tour would be happening -- they seemed so close to breaking up multiple times in the 80's and Freddie seemed to really be interested in a solo career. Interesting question and one we'll never really know...BUT I would say my instinct (and from those closest with the band) says that they would still be together and touring. Freddie wanted a solo career but it always came back "to mother" as Rog said. I would say they would have had more time apart over the years, but they always would have come back together....MAYBE not John. John may have retired by now regardless as he was always not one for the music business or touring so I wouldn't be surprised if Queen 2017 had Freddie lived would have been Freddie, Brian, and Roger. BUT I would say that if Freddie had lived and didn't want to tour than B&R wouldn't have toured without him. Of that I have no doubt. Again we'll never know but.... Good point - however there are rumblings....they may do a gig or two at some point. Call me confused on this one...They did a handful of performances in 2011, toured in 2012-2013, again in 2014-2016, and mini-tour of Tommy earlier this year and are about to start another tour of North America and South America in about 3 days including a couple of dates with Guns N Roses! Aerosmith has just retired...we'll see if it sticks...BUT with that being said they were still performing at a pretty high level - Brian himself said he felt justified going on this tour with Adam after bringing his kids to see Aerosmith! And that is never in doubt. I'm more than happy that we still get Queen action - even with my little bitchings now and then about the set! I just never understood the angst about Adam being a stand in. I tried looking at it from the other side and I guess the equivalent as a Queen fan would be when Adam fans say "Stop bitching. Freddie can't come back Just enjoy Adam for what he's doing" It's a truth. Freddie *ISN'T* coming back. Adam *IS* the lead singer. But it still feels disrespectful even if it's not meant. I mean I guess seeing Adam as a stand-in could appear that I'm downplaying Adam's role or something in the tour. But I'm not at all. I'm just stating he's not a member of Queen no matter how close they get, no matter how friendly they are, no matter how well he does. He's the + one of Queen at this point. And he's a good one. But if you have a band that is performing all their biggest hits and celebrating the biggest achievements of the band's history, then no matter how long or how well they do so, if someone is performing one of the original member's roles than they are standing in for that original piece. And that is regardless of personal taste of who's better. For example, let me take a band I don't really like that much...someone like say...I don't know Slayer. I hate Slayer. Let's say Brian May joined Slayer because Slayer's guitarist died and Brian wanted to play some really shitty music. Let's say that Brian plays 10 years with Slayer and no new music is forthcoming. Brian would play rings around the Slayer guitarist...but in the end, he's still the stand-in for the original.

Been gone all afternoon having a long lunch with my Glambert buddy. We're both going to the show on Thursday! So glad QAL will have three day's rest between tonight and Thursday. Tonight's show looks fantastic! Hope for a full house at ours. The Westboro bunch are idiots. I remember when they protested outside one of Idol tour shows. A few of the other Idols asked Adam if they could do anything about it. He said to just ignore them. They are cruel, sick people. In my opinion, Adam is NOT a stand-in for Freddy. I don't think Brian and Roger consider him "just a stand-in." He's far more than that. He is the best replacement Queen has ever had. He is the LAST front man they will ever have. He is the perfect fit in a perfect glove. That's why they're touring so successfully. I don't consider "stand-in" to be what Adam is and does. He's part of the band, physically, musically and emotionally. That's no stand-in, IMO. I think Adam's little "I'm no Freddy" speech is necessary. He's made it far less groveling and far more joyful. He's lightened it up a lot. He has to say something about Freddy. It's a must, IMO. I think it's fine the way he's doing it. Thank you to all who post the vids! I can't get enough. Just makes me moroe thirsty for Thursday. Adam is in top form. If he wasn't a stand in they'd be touring as Queen. The + Adam Lambert means he's standing in with Queen. He does a great job with it. He's a member of the extended family. He's will loved. They work their asses off. ALL true. Again though its not a slam or belittling. But if Freddie was able to tour he would be. He can't so AL stands in Freddie's role within Queen.

But it is not singing as a stand in. Sad as it is Freddie is not coming back. It is Adam, someone else or no tour. Brian and Roger chose Adam even if some don't like it or are unable to let it go. It does not seem that recording new material with Queen is a priority for Adam or them. Adam has his solo career to worry about. Besides, even if he recorded something with Queen the envy would still be there and the comparisons would continue. Who even needs or wants more of that nonsense? Agree! Adam is NOT a stand in! To me, a stand in is someone who takes the place of someone temporarily until said person returns. Freddie is not coming back! Brian and Roger are alive and well! QAL is the 21st century version of touring Queen. It is a stand in because at the end of it all in 40 years time when people talk of Queen, they will be talking of Freddie, Brian, Roger, and John. Paul and Adam will be looked on as what they were. Phenomenal vocalists who only stood in because Freddie passed away. If Freddie was alive than he'd be up there. That's why he is a stand in. That's not meant in a negative or a pejorative manner in any way shape or form by the way. He is standing in for Freddie because Freddie can't be there.

So go out and sing but produce nothing new? Sounds like a paid standin to me. If Adam does not wish to produce new music with Queen, then IMO, that pretty much confirms that he is happy to serve as a standin as opposed to sticking it all the way out there with new music. Granted that decision may very well not be totally up to him of course. He is going to be critiqued regardless but at least then it would be on his own merit not looking back at an icon. Envy? I've seen no indication that there is envy involved from the naysayers. Most simply, as we are when someone sings an Adam song, feel he is not Freddie and therefore are not worthy. And he isn't Freddie, that is neither bad or good it just is a fact, no two people are the same. Well, okay a stand in is fine. But he is good and all the bitterness in the world will not change that he is doing a great job and fans are loving it. Actually, it is rather funny that when he gets too much attention for his performance it is what about Freddie on cue or he is not Freddie. Of course he is not. He is Adam and apparently that is enough for Brian and Roger and the fans who are loving it all. So let the envy continue and those who enjoy will continue to do so. And those who don't can continue to be mad like the dude is Seattle. How stupid did he sound? Now that is something I agree with. It is fine he is a stand in. He is good. Nothing the trolls can say will change that. A lot of fans are loving it. Some aren't. No big deal either way

Hi talon, are you the one who frequents the QueenOnlineMessageboard? I lurk over there as well, think I have the same username as here. I agree with you regarding TSMGO, hammersmith day 2 was a close 2nd for me and I do hope they bring it back now and again. Theres a vid of the performance under the channel of ecodebs, however, I'm worried it will get taken down at some point as I think the user was a member here but sadly passed away. I also think you make a great point in that certain aspects seem repetitive to those of us who try to listen to each gig. I will bear that in mind and maintain my patience. Yes - I am soxtalon there (and on queenzone

His speech this go round is way less cringeworthy imo. It is pretty much is an FU to the naysayers but said in a semi-polite funny manner. Hate he has to say it, but until they release music with Adam as the frontman this is how it is going to be. Like it or not he is singing as a stand in. But it is not singing as a stand in. Besides, even if he recorded something with Queen the envy would still be there and the comparisons would continue. Who even needs or wants more of that nonsense? Well I get what you are saying but in reality he will always be a stand in. Queen was Freddie, Brian, Roger, and John. If someone else is standing in those spots...they are stand ins. Neil is a stand in on bass. Spike isn't because Spike is "touring keyboardist". Tyler Warren is "touring percussionist", not actually a part of Queen. Paul was a stand in. Adam is a stand in. He's a damn good stand in. He's been the most prevalent of stand ins. But until they decide to form a new band and rename/rebrand themselves, then that's the way the world will see them. Hate he has to say it, but until they release music with Adam as the frontman this is how it is going to be. Like it or not he is singing as a stand in. why would releasing music together change anything? IMO Adam will be compared to FM as long as BM and RT play with Adam, regardless of if they call themselves QAL or not. The only difference is that now the comparisons are limited to singing/performing abilities where as the songwriting collaboration will add a comparison on that front as well. I can bet the results of those comparisons can be safely predicted as well :D The comparisons will always remain if 95% of their material is old Queen material. You are right a new album wouldn't change everything BUT It would signal them as trying to do something more than be a nostalgia act...and if they are a nostalgic act, then comparisons will always be more prevalent. With a new album, even the haters would back off a smidge. I saw that when QPR released The Cosmos Rocks. Most Queen fans hated the album (and I get why it was really a Bad Company album with better and louder guitars, drums, and more harmonies). BUT it was a band doing it's own thing.

QAL -I know this collab will stop eventually, however, before that time comes I hope they perform these two songs live; - In My Defence (Freddie solo so not likely) & Too much Love Will Kill You (I know this song what written in a difficult time in Brians life so not sure he would play it again but he did performed it once with Pavarotti) In My Defence has a .0000001 % chance unfortunately. Not only is it Freddie solo, but he didn't write it as it was from a musical. But it is an awesome track! TMLWKY - I'd give that about a 15% chance. Brian played it regularly in his solo tours (it was demoed for Queen's 1989 The Miracle, shelved, then brought out for Brian's solo album with Brian singing, THEN the Queen version surfaced on Made In Heaven. It has had 2 airings with Queen ever - the aforementioned Pavarotti gig and during QPR, Katie Melua sang it for them during a 46664 Mandela concert. But I'd love for them to bring it back Agreed. Well kind of. I love both tracks but they are not Adam's strength and there are other tracks I'd rather see that would (Spread Your Wings staying for one thing....) AGAIN from your lips. I know it works with the set, but maybe a quick slow drum beat but once the band get on, BAM they burst into the fast version... One of my fav openings....Procession/Now I'm Here is probably still my fav, One Vision worked in 86 but not as much since. But Flash is always fun. Semi agree. I like Break Free but again there are others I'd love to hear more! I thought the Hammersmith versions were best. Hammersmith Day 2 TSMGO is probably my favorite time Adam has sung a Queen song. It was amazingly powerful. This is the kind of song that is squarely in his wheelhouse and can show off his strengths on....It is one of my favorite tracks.. It is a *BIT* precious to me as a Freddie fan given the circumstance...I think they should break it out now and again.... Unfortunately - It will always happen. Most of the casuals will only hear it at their gig. I get those who stream every gig are sick of it. I'm sick of the Selfie Stick moment and speech, lol. lol. I know it well. I talked about this once a few days ago. This all stems from an old Rolling Stone grumpy journalist Dave Marsh who said that in his review of Jazz. The press hated Queen back in the day especially because they got over without them. Most people needed the backing of the Press to either be made or be broken. Queen did it without the press and they were a bit...pissy I agree with this statement quicksandjesus."However, I cringe at Adam’s bowing down speech, I have to take the headphones off and only put them on again once I hear Two Fux start. Give a shout out to someone great yes but not at the expense of belittling oneself." Pay respect to Freddie and all he accomplished is fine but in moderation. It is Adam, along with Queen, out there working his behind off night after night to bring a great show to old and new Queen fans and Adam fans. His performances stand on their own. No comparisons needed because the choice is Adam as the frontman or someone else or no tour. Brian and Roger have chosen Adam. Freddie's legacy is in tact. Why there is some envy against Adam succeeding in his position as the frontman today (some 25 years later) is just strange to me. It should not be an issue that needs to be addressed to make some feel better. Better about what? It changes nothing. Freddie was the original and a great frontman for Queen. He will never be forgotten. Adam is a great frontman for Queen now with a different type of role. Enjoy it. As long as they tour without any new music of their own they are going to be compared...It's not about envy. Fans aren't envious. It's a matter of respect. You say Queen couldn't tour without Adam...But the flipside is still true now since they are singing all old stuff- QAL couldn't tour without Freddie having built the Queen brand. Yes Brian and Roger (and John) helped out tremendously. Adam didn't. That's where showing the respect of the shoulders you are standing on comes in. Adam understands that....which is why I appreciate him as a choice. And why I'm glad he agrees with me

Keeping fingers crossed. Although I will state positively, I'm sure I will love the show regardless...but it is par for the course and what sometimes frustrates me about Brian (whom if rumors in the past would have it, this kind of thing would fall squarely on). I LOVE Brian as you all know. If Brian went on a solo tour, I'd be just as excited as QAL and would be front and center. BUT This kind of thing seems to happen all the way back to the QPR days. They try something new, and a bit out there...and then they get either freaked out that it isn't as responded to right away or they can't quite get it - so they say fuck it and go back to old standbys. Although I'm still shocked about no TYMD. I am one who loves FBG generally. They stopped playing it after 1982 and I was psyched they brought it back for QPR. But since the first QPR gigs in 2005 it's been constant, so as much as I love that opening harmony block, it could get a long rest. Personally I could always do without AOBTD. I know it's the biggest American hit they had so I can't see them ever dropping it especially in the US, but there is so much more I'd rather see. Some Queen fans would say the same about I Want It All but for some reason I *NEVER* get sick of seeing that one... It's why I went to the first show! IDK, about it being Brian's lone decisions though. Adam does it on his solo torus too. I think it has to do with how he feels the reception is, plus how it affects him vocally. TBH, I thought putting it with WWTLF was NOT a good decision. IMO, it was a beautiful moment during the encore. Maybe Brian thinks it's too much of a quiet moment for the encore, or Adam does? Personally, I love a quiet song in an encore. P!NK does it, among others. WWRY and WATC will always get everyone back on their feet & rockimng again, so i don't see the problem! Not that people were actually sitting down for SYW. Adam and Brian on the end of the thrust, for that song, was so beautiful! Now, that being said, they also like to pull "I Want To break Free" from the sets. I am pretty sure I have never seen that one live! Maybe not sole...but I'm basing this on previous info. I know during the QPR shows it was a little bit of the tension between Paul and Brian (Paul wanted to shake things up a bit more, Brian wanted to rely on the warhorses). Roger reportedly agreed with Paul but it was ultimately done Brian's way which is why I think Brian has the most pull on that decision...I admit I could be wrong. I also loved it in the encore. I love any song in the encore that's in addition to WWRY/WATC. I thought it was the perfect position for it if I'm honest. BUT I would take it wherever it is in the set! As for I Want To Break Free. They generally don't do it in North America. They didn't in 2005 or 2014. In 2006 they did do it at a handful of NA dates in 2006. But at generally every other gig outside of NA they do it....It's funny that I have actually never seen Break Free live but I've heard it so many times over the years that I feel like I have! lol.. I'd much prefer SYW...a superior Deacon song to me anyways!

Didn't listen at all tonight as my wife and I went to dinner and Spider-Man.... But it would be a real bummer if Break Free takes the place of Spread Your Wings full time. I like adding Break Free now and again.... But trade out a warhorse like crazy little thing or fat bottomed girls.. Not one of the newer tracks! I agree. SYW is one of the highlights of the show for me. I love the song and I have not heard it as many times as the standard songs. As far as I am concerned, they could drop FBG forever. Keeping fingers crossed. Although I will state positively, I'm sure I will love the show regardless...but it is par for the course and what sometimes frustrates me about Brian (whom if rumors in the past would have it, this kind of thing would fall squarely on).
