Happy Birthday to my birthday sisters! I have been looking forward to my cake for some time now, and I couldn't be happier--or in better company! Yay! I feel like I have been celebrating for at least a week now due to the new album and all the amazing promotion Adam is getting. It makes me happy to see him receive such good press! For my birthday, I am going out to dinner at one of my favorite local restaurants which does desserts with fruit that is currently in season. I love all kinds of berries (especially strawberries and blackberries which both grow locally) and so will be having Strawberry Shortcake for dessert--probably with local salmon (yum). Cheers to all and thanks again for the lovely cake, Betty!

I have been trying to think of something equivalent for an analogy. Holst, glampoon, can you help? It's a little akin to seeing a painting and days later being able to draw it accurately using the exact same shades of color to match the original. It is not something that can be taught. It is an innate sense for pitch, and Adam obviously has it. A rare ability to go with the rest of his rare abilities. Isn't that what's called perfect pitch? Or that's something different? Maybe this is "pitch memory", like you have "muscle memory" (but muscle memory is something you develop through constant practice, so maybe not the best analogy).... This isn't perfect pitch -- I think pitch memory is a good term though. I can do this sometimes and will sing what I remember hearing. I do agree with Cassie in that this is something that can't be taught. I hear a song in my head and then just sing what I hear--I can usually do this with a song I know well because it is in my "sense memory". Since the Shamir song was one that Adam had been singing along to a lot, he probably had a good "sense memory" of the song and was able to replicate it in the same key. It is a gift and until recently, I didn't realize it wasn't something most people could do! LOL. I know it has helped me when singing in the past, but the negative side is that if I sing a song I have listened to another person sing repeatedly, it also makes it more difficult to put an original spin on it when I sing it without having to really think about it. For example, when I sing Bohemian Rhapsody, I tend to sing it as it was recorded with Queen with the same inflections and such. If I were to sing it publicly, I would have to deliberately work on getting the original version out of my head and replace it with my own. It's like having to unlearn a habit in order to replace it with a new one. I hope that makes sense -- often time what seems logical to a singer (as in, "well of course I do this and it works") is not really logical to others. Sort of like when my friends who are good with math try to explain something to me and it sounds like some alien language...it makes sense to them! I hope this helps.

Hope my neighbors like Adam because when I get this music it is going to be cranked up and blow out the walls. Love Dr. Bri on Lucy - signature rifs. Every song is amazing. Also, saw somewhere there was a plan to release a vinyl version. Would love that. Have an extensive vinyl collection and have kept my turntable in pristine condition and I have some bad ass speakers - Yup! will just open the windows and let it rip. I think I am a bit giddy this morning. Must be The Original High from listening to excellent music. When you get the vinyl I am coming over to visit! Just saying...

Adam's falsetto embarrasses every other falsetto ever. So true! I'm a trained soprano and his voice puts mine to shame...

This whole album is amazing and holds together really well. I love Lucy with Brian May -- I would know that guitar work anywhere! Rumours is totally single material and The Original High is really amazing--and in the context of the album it's even better. Wow. Now I really need to get some sleep since the sun is coming up---ugh...

And I actually think it is a bit premature of them to stream TOH now. My birthday is not until tomorrow Well, for me it's an early Birthday present -- mine is on the 22nd! Let's party together right now, okay? Woohoo!
