I know that the GAY is a big factor in the US. Overtly and subtly. But, recently I have been reexamining my expectations for Adam's career. We have talked many times about Adam being a black swan, and being an outlier. Why did I think that America would overwhelmingly embrace such a unique and strange creature? Heck, I can't even get members of my own, very musical family to do so. I believe that Adam is too sophisticated an artist to fit easily into the pop music genre today. Even when he tries with songs like BTIKM and NCOE. Is it the voice? Too polished for pop? Too rangy? Too OTT? Passion fruit and coconut when America is used to hearing vanilla? His image, even putting aside the GAY, is edgy, OTT, and quite different from other male pop stars. He is difficult to categorize: high fashion meets rock star, meets formal suit and tie, meets steam punk, meets glam. He is somehow dangerously sexy but also James Bond sophisticated. And almost never appears in the public eye looking or acting like the boy next door. You can't say, "He reminds me of _____" because he is unique. His performance style that we are all enamored with is probably uncomfortably different for many. They want the WGWG singing the love songs they can easily sing along to without thinking or straining their voice. Adam's sensibilities, instincts, and interests are not mainstream. All in all, I think there are many people who "just don't get him." Maybe if they took the time to listen to interviews, watch a wide variety of performances, and read what others say about him, they would. But, it is a catch-22. They don't get him, so they are not interested, so they don't learn enough about him to become interested, so they can get him. I love Adam precisely because of all the things that make him unique. I've never been someone who ever ordered vanilla ice cream or listened to the songs that everyone else was listening to, or read the book that everyone else was talking about, or watched the most popular reality TV shows (except when Adam was on). Why did I think that someone who was as special, unique and beautiful with the voice of an angel like Adam would be embraced by the masses? I am very grateful that Adam has achieved the success he has, so I can enjoy him as much as I do. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I completely agree!!!

Thank you lovely people for your very sweet comments! I feel the love! I think the fact that this woman and her family are pretty conservative Christians means a great deal--and this is how we win over hate--by love.
Now back to the shallow end...

A personal story I thought I would share --
I just received a private message from one of my friends on Facebook--a woman who I went to grade school with and who friended me not too long ago. I have been posting a number of gay positive things recently on Facebook, and I also post the occasional Adam as well--of course! Anyway, yesterday I posted about a book I just read a review about a new book written by a straight conservative Christian man who lived as a gay man for a year (called "The Cross in the Closet"). It sounds really amazing, and a really good suggestion for all those people of faith who use their beliefs to justify hatred and opposition to equal rights for all.
She just sent me the following message:
Lisa, your link really spoke to me. My oldest son has 'struggled' with his sexuality for years, coming out, taking it back, saying he's bi, then straight, then gay... I just want him HAPPY! There's so much pain in the world, that who he is, who he loves, should NOT have to be hard. Sexuality should not even be an issue, we are born who God wants us to be, my son should not have to struggle! No one should! Thank you for your posts. I am privately messaging this to you because he's still very private, although I pray daily for him to be strong in who he is, he's still troubled. Sometimes, the church does harm, when we just need to love.
I replied with the following:
Thanks for your message and trusting me with your family's struggles. I seem to have had gay friends forever, and in the 80's whenever I would rave about a cool new guy I met my dad would just ask "is he gay"? HAH!
My cousin Mark has been with his partner Joseph for 26 years this year and they hope to get officially married if the proposition here in Washington State gets passed--and I get to sing at the wedding! I have long been on the side that God is love -- and that all the judgement that gets passed around is bad for Christians and other people of faith. It's not our place to judge.
I have also become a huge fan of singer Adam Lambert--first because he has a truly amazing voice, and as a singer I am in awe of that. Since becoming a fan, I have also learned what a truly special human being he is because he is kind, loving, confident--and openly gay in an industry that is still not very accepting. I don't know if your son is a pop music fan, but he should check Adam out and some of the things that he has said. He has become a great role model for all of those who see themselves as "different" and promotes being confident in oneself and true to one's ideals. I admire that (and the fact that he is adorable doesn't hurt, either). His music is great and his interviews are even better. You and your son might be interested in his VH1 Behind the Music interview, as it gives a lot of insight into all of this.
Okay, I'll get off my soapbox and fanbox now--LOL!
Blessings to you and your family -- let you son know that you have a Lutheran pastor in your corner who says that you are loved for who you are and not who others think you should be.
So--what do you guys think?

ugh, people are going crazy on twitter about there not being a trespassing mv until the single is a hit. Wish they would calm down. swearing at RCA and tweeting Adam to leave RCA won't do anything. Also, the challenge by oshiana via twitlonger is being mistaken by some as official RCA statement. Oh boy. #sigh Sighing along with you...

Belle, thanks for responding. I always check the box to "keep me logged in." However, the same thing has happened to me on twitter so maybe it is something on my computer. If anyone knows what that could be, please help me out. Late to answer, but for me it has to do with my security software. When my software cleans out the cache periodically or my virus cleaner runs, I have to log back in to both atop and twitter. You can set some security software so it will leave the cookies for these sites.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to sit through about 10 minutes of buffering to watch a 5 minute video. Sigh.
BTW, where can I get those massaging cats? I can't train my cats to do that...
And Abiku -- I feel you, as I am currently reading about suicide and bereavement. Whoa, we are such Party-ers!

Duct tape From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duct_tapePowdered aluminum pigment gives duct tape its gray color. Duct tape, or duck tape, is cloth- or scrim-backed pressure sensitive tape often coated with polyethylene. There are a variety of constructions using different backings and adhesives. One variation is gaffer tape designed to be cleanly removed, while duct tape is not. Another variation is heat-resistant duct tape useful for sealing heating and ventilation (HVAC) ducts, produced because standard duct tape fails quickly when used on heating ducts. Duct tape is generally silver or black but also available in other colors. In 1942 Revolite, then a division of Johnson & Johnson, originally developed an adhesive tape made from a rubber-based adhesive applied to a durable duck cloth backing. This tape resisted water and was used as sealing tape on ammunition cases during World War II. Thank you JustKaren and 4msrmyn! This is "ilmastointiteippi" in Finnish and having a nick name "Jesus tape", because you can do miracles with it :4OMG: :4OMG: :4OMG: That's such a perfect name! You really can use this stuff for just about anything.
