Michelle @insomniac19 8h8 hours ago Interesting article: Apple Music Is More Than Just A Spotify Killer, It Could End Music Labels Too onforb.es/1LvdwFa via @forbes That is interesting....I have a story for you. Last week as we were trying to beef up orders for TOH, I ordered two 'gift' albums for my daughters. My oldest DD lives in Ottawa...some 3,000 miles from me...and she loves Adam too. She has an iMac and iTunes on her computer but she has never actually purchased a download. [she mostly streams or listens to Paradise radio]. When she tried to download, her system kept bringing up MY apple id and asking for my password. After multiple attempts to bring up her id and pw, we backed down and I gave her my pw. The system downloaded the album to her [with all but 3 tracks duplicated]...on her computer. I was quite disturbed at having to pass along my pw and id [not to her, but ...that should not have happened]. I phoned and chatted several times with increasingly higher ups as nobody could figure out why that happened. Eventually I was speaking to the 'highest' level person in the building that day [clearly they were concerned too]. Well he looked at it all and we finally figured out what had happened and it was fixed...so that essentially is not the story...but a good example of excellent service and attention to detail and security. What had happened is that I had managed a quick visit with my DD a year ago [between a Raging Granny unconventional and my QAL concert]. During that visit, we watched Jared Lehto's film on his trials with his label while creating an album....an inside the music business film. Her computer was still logged in with my account !!! What is of interest here is that I started chatting throughout this, with this last person...he had apologized for the lengthy wait I had until he could leave what he was doing to attend to my needs. He is heavily involved in the roll out and introduction of the new streaming service. The Jared Lehto [sp?] film precipitated an interesting discussion and allowed me to show my basic understanding of the industry trials. He did not know of the film but was interested and will. While he could not tell me much, I could politely give him a direct, somewhat informed, client perspective and he welcomed it. I commented on Swift and her comment that perhaps Apple would get it right. We spoke a little of Tidal and its woes. What I emphasized was the importance, I thought, of good communication and positioning ...that I saw the public lack of acceptance of Tidal as one of a complete communication fuck up...likely because the hubris of the involved stars got in the way of trusting a good communications person. They made so many stupid mistakes with that roll out that I am sure it is being used in Case Studies, as we speak. I left the conversation pretty pumped for what Apple may be doing....at the very least, they seem pretty good at listening and that is a great start. Now if it did not take forever to get to the right person... The fact that they have knowledgeable people available to answer questions impresses me. So many companies have decided that Customer Service is low or no priority.

Adam's fans know how much he has accomplished in such a short time, but I wonder how many others realize just how Great Adam's accomplishments are.. After reading about James Taylor getting #! on BB200 after forty some odd years and so many others never being up for Grammys or getting top BB200s.. Looking at Adam up for a Grammy, three albums three top BB200s ,and a #1 to boot and as the first out gay artist..... Lead singer for Queen ,glee.... It goes on and on.. What an amazing career ..This in 6years....Really Adam what's next?? Even before Idol, Adam had a singing career better than 99% of the young hopefuls. He has been supporting himself by singing more or less successfully since he graduated from HS.

Entertainment Focus @ent_Focus News: @adamlambert The Original High favourite track results. Find out which one won goo.gl/RzVnYp www.entertainment-focus.com/music-section/music-news/adam-lambert-the-original-high-favourite-track-results/By Pip Ellwood The Original High, which entered the UK Top 10 album chart at the weekend, is the first album released via Adam’s new label deal with Warner Bros. The votes came in thick and fast from our readers with There I Said It leading the poll from day one and holding on to first place throughout the voting period with 25% of the votes. Coming in a close second is title track The Original High with 24% of the votes. After that it was quite a drop in popularity with many of the tracks from the album tying with votes of 8% and below. Check out the full list of results below and see where your favourite track placed: 1. There I Said It – 25% 2. The Original High – 24% 3. Another Lonely Night – 9% =4. Evil In The Night – 8% =4. Lucy (feat Brian May) – 8% =4. The Light – 8% 5. Rumors (feat Tove Lo) – 5% 6. Ghost Town – 4% =7. Underground – 2% =7. Shame – 2% =7. These Boys – 2% =8. Things I Didn’t Say – 1% =8. Heavy Fire – 1% =8. After Hours – 1% - See more at: www.entertainment-focus.com/music-section/music-news/adam-lambert-the-original-high-favourite-track-results/#sthash.PR6DJjeY.I6Zc7NJm.dpufThis poll just adds to my frustration. There I Said It should be the next single because people like it. Odds are in favor of TOH, though, because people think it fits better in the Pop category. That kind of thinking gave us BTIKM and NCOE as singles for Trespassing, instead of the title song or Shady. My youngest son is not the biggest Adam fan, but he is always happy to go to an Adam concert. He went to 9 GNT concerts and 1 QAL concert. I played snippets of the whole album for his reaction. There I Said It was his favorite because it didn't sound like everything else on the radio.

Billboard to Alter Chart Tracking Week for Global Release DateNEWS By Billboard Staff | June 24, 2015 3:00 PM EDT www.billboard.com/biz/articles/6605847/billboard-to-alter-chart-tracking-week-for-global-release-dateIn response to the IFPI's global release date announcement, Billboard and Nielsen Music will adjust the tracking weeks for most Billboard charts. Concurrently, Billboard's rankings, including the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100, and associated analytical stories, will shift their posting dates on Billboard.com. Starting July 10, the official street date for all new album releases will be Friday (instead of the current Tuesday) in the United States. For all sales-based charts (ranking both albums and tracks), Billboard and Nielsen will change the chart reporting period to cover the first seven days of an album's release. This will result in an adjusted sales period of Friday to Thursday, as opposed to the Monday to Sunday cycle that has been utilized since the advent of Nielsen Music's point-of-sales tracking in 1991. Streaming services will now also be tracked from Friday to Thursday for the charts that incorporate that data.(The final charts utilizing sales data from a Monday to Sunday cycle (June 29 through July 5) will post on Billboard.com on Thursday, July 9, and will be dated July 18. To account for sales in the in-between days during the transition week to a Friday to Thursday schedule, Nielsen Music will process data incorporating an 11-day cycle [Monday, June 29, through Thursday, July 9]. That 11-day period will inform the Billboard charts that will post on Billboard.com on Tuesday, July 14, and be dated July 25. The pure sales data from the 11-day stretch will be the only data stored historically when accounting for all-time sales according to Nielsen Music; thus, there will be no double-counting, per se, of sales in Nielsen Music's tracking system for this period in its archived database.) 10 Best Songs of 2015 (So Far)Here's a more detailed look at what elements will shift, both for industry insiders and chart-watchers worldwide alike. BILLBOARD 200 & ALL SALES, STREAMING CHARTSAll surveys ranking album sales, digital song sales and streams will run on a Friday to Thursday cycle. That covers the all-format Billboard 200 and Top Albums Sales album charts, genre-based album charts, Digital Songs and genre-based download charts and Streaming Songs and genre-focused streaming surveys. BILLBOARD HOT 100 & GENRE HYBRID SONGS, AIRPLAY CHARTSAll radio charts, including the all-format Radio Songs chart and genre tallies, will run on a Monday to Sunday cycle. Notably, Radio Songs, which informs the Hot 100, will synch up to that Monday to Sunday period after formerly encompassing each Wednesday to Tuesday. The Hot 100 and all other "Hot"-monikered genre songs charts (for country, R&B/Hip-Hop, R&B, Rap, rock, dance, Latin, Christian and gospel) utilizing the Hot 100's sales/streaming/airplay hybrid formula will now incorporate the following tracking schedule for their components: SALES: Friday to Thursday STREAMS: Friday to Thursday AIRPLAY: Monday to Sunday Why is airplay on its own cycle apart from sales and streaming? Monitored radio data from Nielsen Music is readily available on a real-time basis, as opposed to sales and streaming data, which filters in from numerous data providers over multiple days. So, by incorporating the latest available airplay data, the Hot 100 will remain as up-to-date as possible each week. ANNOUNCEMENTS AND TIMING OF NEW WEEKLY CHARTSWhat does all this mean for Billboard.com readers? The shift in the sales tracking week related to the new global release date will result in adjustments to when our charts, and charts-based editorial content, will be finalized and presented on Billboard.com. All charts will be refreshed each Tuesday morning on Billboard.com starting July 14 (as opposed to the current Thursday). As has historically been the case, Billboard's charts are post-dated to the second Saturday following online posting (now 11 days later). So, charts that go live on Tuesday, July 14, will be dated July 25. James Taylor Earns First No. 1 Album After 45-Year WaitLeading up to that weekly Tuesday charts reveal, you can look forward to Keith Caulfield's Billboard 200 coverage on Billboard.com, which will include a projected top 10 albums chart story on Friday evenings, followed by a finalized top 10 review on Saturday once Nielsen Music has concluded its processing. Gary Trust, meanwhile, will run down the Hot 100's top 10 (and more) each Monday afternoon, complemented by our exclusive YouTube video countdown of the week's biggest hits. And, you'll be able to find out the Hot 100's top 10 moments before Trust's Billboard.com posting by catching William Gruger and Emily White's preview on Periscope. (Check @billboard on Twitter each Monday, starting July 13, for exact details on when they'll broadcast.) In all, the changes above reflect Billboard's continued adaptability to changes in the music and entertainment industry, a hallmark of Billboard's commitment to the highest quality of reporting that's defined the brand for more than 120 years.

Perhaps a little....but the difference is that I am assuming those pictures are of her. She is claiming their use as partial owner because she is the subject. When apple is using an artists music and not paying, they cannot claim the same connection at all. I think the situations are quite different...the photographers still have the 'use value' for them self...the 'royalty' as it were. Apple was not giving that to the artists and therein lies the difference. As far as I can tell..... eta...exactly 4ms...I wrote this before seeing your post. And think about it...Taylor is the only reason these pics have any monetary value!! wtf...I do not see what leg these photographers think they have to stand on... But didn't the photographer say it was in her contracts, therefore these are photographers hired to take her pictures, but they won't receive compensation if she uses them? I don't think he is Paparazzi, who take pics on pure speculation. But what do I know? I'm not sure exactly how Apple's music service will work, but my understanding was that they agreed to pay the artists something like 70% of the profits, not a certain amount per spin (which I understand for Spotify, etc., is much less than 70% of the profits) ... that's why Taylor said Apple was going to be doing it right ... but for the first 3 months there won't be any profit if everything is free to the users, which is why Apple wouldn't have paid ... but kudos to Apple for agreeing to pay above and beyond what their contracts with the music providers (labels?) were ... If the photographers are hired, they are being paid. However, they don't retain ownership of the photographs and can't get another payment for selling them to someone else.

I was thinking perhaps we can get 4Ms to remind us about giving the video hits since I believe that counts for Billboard. But I think it is just for Ghost Town and not the album. Is that right. Still, if GT gets on hot 100, (and even if it doesn't) it is another way to push it along I think Q3 finally pounded it into my head... Streaming is the most efficient play now that the album is out. Ghost Town streams count for the single and for the album. The Ghost Town music video plays count for the single. Whether the music video plays also count for the album is at best questionable. We're all multi-tasking ourselves to death, why use up our precious fan-time for a questionable return?

AWESOME! Considering he was up against an American icon who hadn't released anything in a decade and The Swift... I'd say BIG win Now keep streaming! We don't want a huge fall-off next week EDIT: So what was the tweet from Warner Promo about at the top of this page? Where are they getting #2? www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6605803/james-taylor-first-no-1-album-billboard-200Adam Lambert notches the chart’s second-highest bow, as his third album The Original High arrives at No. 3 with 47,000 units... second-highest bow - James Taylor has the 1st debut album and Adam has the 2nd debut album.

I liked Taylor's letter to Apple, and was pleased that Apple responded so quickly and positively. But then I read the letter from the photographer who says Taylor doesn't pay for their work, expects to use their photos for free in perpetuity! So she doesn't practice what she preaches? Those photographers are either paid to be there or they are freelancing of their own free will. Either way they are photographing TS, using her image, her hard-worked-for celebrity and perhaps a very-expensive-to-put-together concert. Photographers take advantage of celebrities all of the time. TS is just taking back what is hers in the first place. YMMV
