San Diego EastCounty @sandiego_Alpine Adam Lambert discusses fame, Queen his San Diego music theater days & not compromising. goo.gl/fb/Pc6zRw #Alpine Adam Lambert talks music, fame and prideThe former San Diego singer and 'American Idol' aum discusses his new album, touring with Queen and being older and wiser at 33. By George Varga6 A.M.JUNE 21, 2015 Goodbye, glam-rock, guyliner, vocal pyrotechnics and glittery, over-the-top theatrics. Hello, musical maturity and comparative understatement. That may not have been Adam Lambert’s creative mantra, at least not in those exact words, when he was making his new album, “The Original High.” But the 11-song release, which came out Tuesday, is easily the most assured, sophisticated and carefully calibrated work so far by this Indiana-born, San Diego-bred vocal powerhouse. Or, as he declares in one of his new songs: "I'm a grown-ass man." Lambert, 33, reinforces his artistic reinvention with his impeccably crafted, less-is-more new songs and his straightforward album cover — a no-frills, black-and-white head shot, with stubble in place of makeup, and not a hint of glitter to be seen. “I think I had gone down the road of doing campier, theatrical kinds of ridiculous, thematic pop on my past couple of albums,” he said by phone from London, where he was on a promotional tour for “The Original High.” It’s his third solo album of new songs since rising to stardom, after his second-place finish on the 2009 edition of TV’s “American Idol.” “I wanted to steer it back into ‘realness,’ reality, authenticity and things that were universal concepts everybody could relate to,” he continued. “I just wanted to connect with the listeners in a real way.” But didn’t his two previous albums reflect Lambert’s musical reality at the time? “They were a conscious choice to go into that theatrical reality,” he replied. Lambert hasn’t abandoned his well-honed pop instincts or his penchant for dance-friendly beats. Nor has he suddenly adopted a stripped-down, solo acoustic approach, especially not with “The Original High” having being executive produced by Max Martin, whose most recent credits include bigger-than-life hit records by Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Maroon 5. Being a San Diego paper, I trust they are accurate in saying "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" was produced in 1991, making Adam just nine years old for his first role. Up until now I have always read "9-10". Kinda silly of me, but I really wanted to nail down that date. Cool. I have this posted on the timeline: atop.proboards.com/post/4016/thread "He has invested his entire life in music and performing, and that means working at it. His talent didn't just happen overnight as some people think," said Kathie Bretches-Urban, who has known Lambert since he showed up -- as a boisterous, likable 10-year-old -- to audition for Metropolitan Educational Theatre, a San Diego-based youth theater company founded by her late husband, Alex Urban.
BORN IN A TRUNK
'He'd just come out onstage, and it popped,' said Bretches-Urban, who now lives in Long Beach. 'You'd see that sparkle in his eye. That gift is a passion. It's something in (his) soul that just exudes from every pore. You know that this child has discovered his chosen path, even if he doesn't know it yet.'
Lambert was a self-professed 'hyperactive kid' whose now-divorced parents, Eber and Leila Lambert, enrolled him in theater to channel his energy. His first role in 1991 was as Linus in 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown' at San Diego's Lyceum Theatre.
Like his father, Lambert's coloring was fair -- a thick head of strawberry blond hair, fair skin and freckles. He took to acting, singing and dancing quickly and formed a tight circle of friends in the theater community.
'Music and performing were the only things I ever knew Adam doing, Bretches-Urban said. 'He was not a kid that did sports. That was just not his thing. I do know that he worked, much like an athlete would do, on his singing with voice lessons for his entire life.'
'Adam Lambert: North County friends, mentors say homegrown 'Idol'worked diligently to reach stardom' By Pam Kragen - June 2, 2009 www.utsandiego.com/news/2009/jun/02/adam-lambert-north-county-friends-mentors-say/all/
Adam isn't always clear on the dates. I would trust Mrs. Bretches-Urban on the 1991 date, not so much his age.

Well that sucks! Just checked my Amazon orders. The ones I pre-ordered MAY 10th have an estimated delivery date of June 22nd. The ones I gifted on Thursday June 18th have delivery dates of June 19th and June 20th. Maybe if you call Amazon customer service they can change the estimated delivery date to earlier than June 22 so that it counts. I think she just needs to look at her orders and see whether they have shipped. I wouldn't worry about it, if they have. In order to get to her by Monday, the 22nd, they should have already gone out.

It sounds like they have already been shipped and you have been charged. The promised delivery dates of June 19th and 20th are within the first week time frame. I'm not an expert, but I still think that if they are shipped, they will count. I thought Amazon, etc. orders counted when they accepted your payment, credit card, etc. Same as when you pay for the CD in a store. Anyway, I ordered some TOH's from Amazon as gifts to the organization Q3 highlighted yesterday - and they shipped the same day. I mean when you pay in a store, the CD is sold. When you pay on Amazon, the CD is sold. That's my logic.

My expected delivery date was like May 7 or something equally ridiculous but I got on th 16th of June. Good thing you didn't get it too early. I don't think it would count. The 16th is good.

For Nielsen Soundscan reporting.... 1. Digital music, must be downloaded -- that constitutes delive 2. Direct to consumer CDs -- need to be shipped by the retailer with an expected delivery date before the end of the reporting week. So not actual delivery but EXPECTED DELIVERY. >> If you buy a CD and they give you a complete download with the purchase, that download can constitute delivery. >> Retailers have been know to use aggressive delivery dates -- meaning ship on Friday and say it will be delivered on Saturday. I forgot to say earlier, saw Hilary Duff on The View or one of the those talk shows. She said this was her first album in 8 years. HD sang her song. It didn't seem very special to me. Completely forgotten except for the whistling at the beginning! Actually sounds like GT percussion. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEpJJXNuuvM

Ok, I need to tell you my Adam related story. I've never really had one to tell before. Last week, I was at my DDIL's shop getting my hair done. She had on a pop radio station, and I asked her if she had heard Adam's GT. She said, OMG...yes!! Over & over, she said!! !! A bit later, my 7 year old Grandson joined us. (a bit on the OT, but he's such a beauty!! ) LOL!! Anyways, soon after he got there, GT started playing on the radio, with speakers everywhere! I looked at my GS & he was whistling along with the song. I asked him where he learned to whistle and he said he just could. I'm sitting there smiling my ass off!! LOL! Then, I see & hear him singing *My Heart Is a Ghost Town*!!! OMFG!!!! I look at my DDIL and she says, yep, he does it all the time! She really likes Adam and lets me go on & on..bless her, I'm so lucky to be blessed with 2 wonderful DDIL's. She did say that this station has been playing it over & over, for weeks. This is in Lincoln, NE. I was dumbfounded!!! LOL!! And then, after asking her twice, I forgot what station it was! DUH!! But, my excitement of watching my Gson sing GT & whistling to it just SO made my day!! He's a smart little dude, for sure. I think I'll get him the clean version, but not sure if they have a CD player? He already has his own Ipod, so who knows? I'll have to visit with my son about all that. So...have to say that I TOTALLY FUCKING LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFG!!!!!!!!! I've listened to it over & over, and have grown to love some songs that I wasn't sure about at first. But, now I am and watching and listening to Adam sing them live, just makes me the happiest person in the world!! No matter where he charts, He will always be number 1 for me!!! And, he looks so fucking happy......ALL THE TIME!!!!!!! How does he do that? He has to be tired??? But, he goes on & on...and just does that thing!! The GMA was so amazing, going back to watch again since I didn't get to see it live. Another story about that later....hehehe! I know, I know...I do go on a bit when I finally post. Not gonna say sorry tho, cause I'm not. HEH!! Great post, great story! You need to get a video of your GS singing and whistling. Post it on YT for us. Doesn't need to more than 20 seconds of his best parts. Wouldn't that be a kick?

Well we know that the fan booklets themselves are printed because people have received them unsigned. I assume those stacks that Adam was signing in London have made their way to Tennessee by now. Really poor planning on the part of MyPlayDirect. I hate that my one add'l CD sale won't count this week it appears. If they sent you the download and you downloaded it they can count that as delivery I believe. In any case if the delayed CD's are the signed ones that's going to be maybe in the hundreds, not thousands of copies delayed and from what I have seen reported in the past they just have to have the orders picked up from them by the shipping company. That is what RCA Ed had reported during Trespassing when he was getting screamed at about shipment delays then. The expected delivery date thing had to do with the shipment of pre-orders before street date. In order to not be a street violation the expected delivery date could not be before the release date. But that's why some people got their cd's before release date. I only know a little bit from Ebay. In order to consider an item shipped, you only need to print the shipping label and pay the postage.

I can understand that downloads must be completed by Sunday. I'm guessing that iTunes can't complete the sale until it's downloaded. However, I do not understand the actual delivery requirement for physical cds. If delivery is required, all of those split shipments are not going to make it. >> Retailers have been know to use aggressive delivery dates -- meaning ship on Friday and say it will be delivered on Saturday Thanks for the clarification. Retailer promised delivery makes more sense.
