I have to wonder if the "official" release date for a song isn't the day it gets serviced to radio and not the day it goes up for sale on iTunes?
Used to be labels would release a song on radio and wait weeks to make it available for download (called suppress downloads) in order to build up demand for sales and rocket it to the top of the Hot 100 chart (back when the Hot 100 was purely based on sales). They don't do that anymore because now songs chart on Hot100 based on airplay AND sales (which is how a song can debut fairly low on the chart the first week of release and then take a massive jump the next week when it's first week sales are factored in). Official release date of a song is the date it goes on sale. "Radio impact" date is the day the label wants it going for adds, usually about 2 weeks after the sale date. OFC, radio can add a song as soon as it is available, which usually happens with the big name artists. The optimal day, until the summer change to Fridays, for a single to be released is a Monday. That gives it 7 full days of sales for its official sale numbers. So 12:01 a.m. Monday morning, March 30th, right after Adam performs it at the iheart awards, is perfect!! Let me dream, people!! thanks patti.

Bama, my brain keeps going back to "Why is the date such a secret?" The only reason i can think of is that giving the date, would tipoff a surprise. So my heart says, iHeart award performance! No need to announce it way ahead of time because the show has its audience already. People will be tuning in for everybody, not just one person. IDK, IDK!! If anyone else can come up with why the date is a secret, I will abandon my BIG DREAM!!

I'll dream along with you guys, since that's the scenario I hoped for and posted about last week, based on wishful thinking from Shoshanna's tweets!

New to me, too. Do we have this in a larger size? That's the largest I could find. Many moons ago I capped a version of it from 2010-11-21 E! True Hollywood Story Adam Lambert Part 1. www.dailymotion.com/video/xfq0wn_e-true-hollywood-story-part-1_webcam

Thanks. I was missing that piece of information, that Spotify itself has a feature to download songs to your PC. Did not know that. Makes sense that such a local play on your PC would not count as stream. I think, I will just not use that then. ================ Want to add to yesterday's Shazam debate: I plan to totally Shazam Adam's song, the first time I hear it, be it on Radio or grocery store or whatever, but I see it more as an indicator of interest, rather than any streaming count, which may not be practical, depending where and when it happens. It's also just a one time deal, so not a major contribution. It also sounds to me like WBM is planning a few things as part of their partnering with Shazam, and if any of that involves Adam, or is otherwise relevant, then we will hear about it and can react then. ================ Finally: Am I the only one who is confused, I thought Shoshanna was already in LA since Sunday/Monday? So, was yesterday's tweet about the upcoming media and promotion day not Adam related? Why is she tweeting now, that she arrived? ETA: Just saw her follow on tweet that she is there since a few days. I guess, somebody else was confused too. So media day is for Adam. crazy, you aren't "downloading" the songs from Spotify to your PC, you are just making them available to play offline (if you have a premium subscription). The only way that I know of to get a song onto your pc is buy ripping the CD to your library, buying it through a retailer like iTunes or downloading it from a torrent or sharing site (which is stealing IMO).
Spotify allows you to mark 3000+ songs to be available offline for 30 days. Here is how Spotify explains it
here is a link to Spotify Questions/Guides support.spotify.com/us/learn-more/faq/#!/article/How-long-can-I-cache-offline-content
it's a great resource on how to use Spotify.
Regarding Shazaming Adam's song, yes, do it the first time you hear it (or in my case the first time you hear it and are near wifi LOL) but when it identifies the song click the option within Shazam to listen to it on a streaming site such as rdio or beats music so it's clear you're actually interested in the entire song and not just curious who is singing it. *again JMO*

Thanks glitter...AND...now you opened up something I had no clue about!!! (If I buy from itunes, streaming/tracking does not count on my devices.) What if I buy on my desk top and then do not sync it with my ipad etc. It means Spotify streams on my desktop will not count, but on my ipad it would? Or it synchs with all my same email address devices? Also I buy CD's albums and purchase itunes albums and singles. If I get you correctly...buying a CD for an album still allows streaming to impact on tracking numbers. But with this new counting system and singles coming out before the album...t here is obviously no CD to buy with a single. Are we screwed? What do you suggest:
a. Should we or should we not not buy the single on itunes, (as you mention...no amount of streaming then counts)? b. If we buy on itunes, is that worth more in the end than all streaming counts? Thank goodness we have some time to sort out the best approach.... ....and get confident about the steps to take.
If you buy a CD on your desk top and play that CD on your desk top from your purchased items it will not count as streaming. However, if you open Spotify and play the same CD from there, it will count because you are streaming it directly from their site and not from your device.
Buy the single when the single comes out so it counts towards the sales of that single and it's position on the Hot 100 chart, which is probably as important as anything else for the success of a song. When the album is released buy the album but I would recommend not doing so through the "complete my album" feature but rather buy the single through one venue (like amazon or rhapsody) and then buy the album through another venue (iTunes since iTunes is the most used site for music digital music purchases at the moment) because I believe when you do complete my album it deducts the sale of the single off the total for said single (I could be wrong about that but I believe I read that at one time).
My own style is, I buy the single off iTunes and then I buy the actual CD from a store when it comes out and that way I can purchase the singles as they are released on iTunes to help the single sales too.
My advice (for what it's worth and I'm no expert on any of this) is buy the music, be it albums or singles. It takes A LOT of streaming to count as a single (1 sale) sale as noted in the recent chart information. Something like 1500 streams counts as a single album sale.
IMO The streaming is designed to capture the pulse of the music listener that doesn't necessarily buy albums (most casual fans usually) but they still consume music. I feel like counting the streaming is a way around the problem illegal downloading causes because people who now stream instead of stealing also get credited to the artist.
Please note this is all just my opinion and I am not trying to tell anyone what to do nor am I trying to present myself as some kind of expert on the subject. Just wanted to thank you for the time and patience it takes to explain all of this.
