No, that wasn't the point being made. Nobody is doubting that Adam leads when it comes to international touring (behind Kelly). This particular conversation, unless I interpreted it incorrectly, was directed at Idols touring in the US The original question was about solo touring, venue sizes, including internationally. Well, I'm confused then. I just thought I was answering drummer's question about whether any other Idols did "real tours." I wasn't trying to compare Adam to anyone or make any broader points or arguments. oh well.

In my recap which I posted in yesterday's thread, I mentioned about my niece and her boyfriend who saw Adam for the first time (thanks to a really beautiful and kind-hearted Atoper who gave them the tickets). She is a junior in college (early 20's) and her BF is a great guy in his mid-20's. She just sent me an email with her recap of the LA1 concert. I am posting it verbatim. I think you will enjoy her reaction to seeing Adam the first time. They both get Adam!
Thanks Nix for your recap.
Seeing Adam live for the first time was not only everything I thought it would be, but also so much more. From the moment he went onstage, he brought out an incredible energy that he would somehow maintain as the show continued. In fact, not only did he maintain such an infectious energy, but he would continuously outdo himself as he kept giving the fans more and more. It seemed superhuman, almost, for him to be giving that much to the crowd. He definitely gave it 200%, and it didn't even seem as if the man was sweating it one bit. He belted out every song perfectly, but would never overdo it like too many singers tend to do. He'd give just the right amount into the song, but then would surprise me by giving so much more that I never knew the songs needed until he did them.
Furthermore, the man got the crowd dancing along with him on every song, lifting them up and carrying them with him throughout the entire duration of the show. It was impossible not to hang on to his every word; he is an entertainer in every sense of the word. He was charming, supremely talented, and handsome to boot. It was easy to see why people have fallen in love with him the way they have, and why the fans support him endlessly. He is as genuine as they come. He throws himself into doing what he was there to do: sing. But more than that, he also does it with ease and sincerity that are both severely lacking in the industry.
As someone who has seen many concerts in my lifetime, Adam is truly something else. His appeal goes beyond his talent, as he is also a seemingly wonderful person himself. There doesn't seem to be anything superficial or fake about him at all. He seems relatable, he never tries too hard, and he's a total badass. He was funny, clever, expressed his desire for people to unite, and his distaste for Donald HeWhoCannot amed. Well, what’s not to love?
Another thing that really made me like him more was how he acknowledged that people paid him to be there to sing, and not to talk too much. It was totally refreshing, considering how many pop stars are so completely full of themselves that people get lost in their fake personalities and not the music. Adam is on the other side of that spectrum, as he knows that his talent is what got him to where he is in the first place. Not only does he do it, but he does it completely well.
As far as first impressions go, Adam Lambert truly knows how to leave a mark on a person. It was an incredible experience getting to witness such talent. It's really nice to know that despite his immense ability as a singer and his wealth as a celebrity have not gotten to his head in any way. No wonder his fans love him so much, no wonder they're the most loyal community of music fans I've ever seen. Beyond his unbelievable superhuman talent, he's a humble, smart, and sensible person. And you know what? My boyfriend -- who attended the show with me -- and I were instantly Glamberts before he even finished his first song. What a guy, indeed.
Wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing. Was lovely meeting you, if only briefly.

Aah, the biweekly AMAs discussion! All I can say is that my DH never forgave Adam for that performance, so whether it resulted in a net gain of fans (and I'm not sure it did) doesn't help me much. Haha. well maybe not new fans in america lol. But it did give him international attention he may have not gotten. If he just sat on a stool and sang a ballad. Nice. But with gaga smashing whisky bottles. Lost as the nice gay kid from idol. So its a polarizing discussion. In some ways forever held him bk in the states. But hes so big around the world. Partivularly with Ghost Town now. So its bittersweet. I see your DH pov. A pov, an image Adam may never shake in the states anyway. Great points here, 3kui, but I'm not sure how much the AMA's are viewed outside of the states..?? For me, it wasn't Idol or the AMA's, but Queen that finally did it. THE NYE performance, to be precise...

Sorry to say, but the kids and parents who watched Idol wern't ready for the performance Adam gave but I was!!! lol Loved him even more after. I know he said vocally he was off and I agree. I always laughed when they said, there were a lot of complaints, ya, whatever, I don't think 1500 is a lot considering the amount of people that watched. Anyway, ancient history! Just wish the US didn't have such a vindictive attitude, they forgive a lot in this country but not when your gay!!! There I said it! Love this!

In Europe? I don't read newspapers or watch telly, so I wouldn't have seen it anyway, but I suppose Adam bringing up the double standard would certainly have made gay news site sit up and listen...

I am convinced that if not for the god sent spontaneous AMA kiss - Adam would not have achieved the international recognition...Queen NYE was obviously a great catalyst in the UK! But that's several years into his international career... The first "big"-ish exposure was the AMA fallout nevertheless!

EDIT: What I meant was, now that I've got a bit more time to explain, I was wondering how Adam went under my radar? Yes, I don't watch tv or read papers, but I do use the internet, and there are always stories and headlines coming up there, even if you don't want to know. I know who Taylor Swift is, but yet would not have heard of her normally as she isn't my type of music. I hear names even if I don't know who they are or what they're famous for, like Kim Kardashion, for example. So if Adam made international news, I was just wondering how I missed him until NYE 2014/15....and that's it really..

Don't know if you will see this but it might be because I don't think media in France was quite as frenzied about it as it was in a lot of other countries. But Adam did do promo in France and he had a GNT tour date in Paris November of 2010. He was actually in Paris with Sauli when he got the news about the Grammy nomination for WWFM
