Can't Go Home video - Why is nobody interpreting this literally as in chimp stolen from forest and wants to go back home to family? Kind of like Planet of the Apes - newer series. If I was to interpret it at all then it is Chimp is picked from obscurity and becomes a star (ie the photo of him with some other celebrity or just getting in the news) but anymore he's just hanging out because that's what he's done for so long that he doesn't remember how to do anything else. Girl comes along, feels sorry for him, find the picture of family. He thinks family won't accept him anymore, she thinks differently, makes plan to sail with him and drop him off on his island so he can find his family. The chimp could represent anyone. Somebody like Carrie Underwood for example or Dolly Parton. Anybody who for some reason (willingly or otherwise) hits it big but who really just wants things to be how they were but doesn't know how, too much has changed. It's really a sad story but in this case his friend is going to help him because she believes his family will still accept him back. Jablea, I hadn't thought it out in such detail, but your ideas match mine about the mv. I agree the chimp feels like he 'can't go home," but his new friend thinks he can and will help.

That was about 5 AM his time. If they bused overnight, maybe they were arriving in Hamberg about that time. Or who knows, he is such a night owl. :D

Would have been around 5:15 a.m. there. Maybe they're hopping a short flight to Hamburg?

I can get waaay too literal and analytical sometimes. I am seeing the girl sailing and walking on the beach with the chimp, and I think, "Are they saying that she is taking the chimp to the boat and is going to sail him to see his family?" But, but, but, chimps can't swim! They sink like a rock. They avoid water.

Chimp's are not native to America, hence must go on boat ride to get home. Yeah, it's a small boat probably not suited for long ocean travel but that's too literal, lol.

You described perfectly a lot of the action and now that you shared, I can see it too!

The idea of him being unhappily estranged from his former (or natural) way of life and family is the basic theme IMO too. "Can't go home until I work it out with you" - he and his new friend both have to reconcile themselves to the idea of 'return' before it can happen.

I can't believe I am still stuck on this mv - but I am. So, I am posting on old thread so as not to bother anyone as much!
A. This song's lyrics, to me, are obviously about a romantic couple having had a fight and the singer not wanting to leave it there, to go home mad. He wants to make-up (and have "make-up sex").
B. All the "tropes" in this mv (lonely star in Malibu beach house, beautiful [and buxom] girl running on beach and into his life, romantic times together - yoga, puppies, walks, parties, texting from bed, the chimp's appreciative "expressions," etc. - read to me like they are a new couple - they hold hands! then, to me, she reads "mad" that he has this other life or still has a photo of it and they "fight." And, like the lyrics suggest, he wants to make-up. When she comes back, they get back together, and he throws the photo away and is "with" her.
C. I don't like that, I actually prefer the "she helps him back to the jungle" idea, BUT I just don't think that's really the intended story :/. Wouldn't it make more sense to show him reunited with chimps in the end instead of stereotypically sailing into the sunset with HER if he was going back to the wild?
(haha - sorry I am stuck on this)
