I was actually at the taping of this particular AGT! Could not figure out why he got a standing "O!" Yes, it was good, that I recognized. He deserved to go thru to the next round. But having seen STL live many times, it is hard not to compare it to Adam's. There are so many covers where I prefer Adam's version now, even over the originals. Rihanna's "Stay" is a perfect example for me! Yes, I almost can't listen to a vocalist without a voice in my head whispering , "Pretty good, but Adam would be/did it better." There are still a few exceptions for me -- but they ate getting more rare. Yesterday, I was shopping and a The Who song started playing and all I could think was "Adam would sing it better." Perhaps I need an intervention. No, you don't need an intervention, we just need Adam everywhere singing everything! lol, no bias here

All I could think of when I heard STL on AGT was how amazing it sounds when Adam sings it...could hardly listen to it the other night....his voice is so beautiful no one can sing it like he can I admit that guy has a good voice. But it sounded to me that he tended to vary the volume when he should have been varying the octave instead? He just got louder instead of singing higher

I have read comments questioning/criticizing people for always comparing other singers to Adam. "Why can't you just appreciate them all? You are obsessed with Adam."
How can I explain? I don't INTEND to compare all singers to Adam. I am not invested in ranking Adam among singers. It's as if my brain, upon hearing a male singer, defaults to its "Adam" setting. Perceiving it is not Adam's voice, the brain says, "What is that?! There something wrong here. I'm not feeling this voice like I should."
It's like opening up a bottle of your favorite soda on a hot summer day, only to find that it is lukewarm. And flat. Or turning on my high end stereo equipment, only to find out that the subwoofer is blown. Or sitting down on what looks to be a cushy comfortable chair, only if feel lumps and springs.
Adam's voice just moves me from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. I have learned to accept that there are some whose ears cannot discern and appreciate the exquisite beauty of Adam's voice. How sad! How lucky are those of us who could hear that angelic sound!
