I saw Taylor and Tommy, but didn't recognize Sasha under that hat.

Did y'all hear about the Mariah Carey fail on New Years Eve live TV? I felt so sorry for her. She got savaged on twitter and pretty much in the press.
But, when I watched the video, it was clear to me that her in ear monitor was not in her ear. She kept feeling for it, but couldn't find it. She was singing outside in the street and without the monitor probably couldn't hear the music clearly, what with crowd noise, speakers turned outward, and sound bouncing off the buildings etc. It was probably a muddled, incomprehensible mess. And she might not have even been able to hear herself singing.
Yes, it also looked like there were times that Mariah was lip syncing.. and badly. But her mic was live and I think she had a vocal backing track to support her singing, like many pop singers have. Even Adam used that on his solo tours, tho not as prominently. (Some pop singers barely sing at all live, or their mic is turned way down. Adam has never done that. His voice has always been predominant.)
I remember an instance where Adam had a major ear monitor fail and could not hear his own voice, or the instrumentals, or both. He was grossly off key because of it. He tried to keep going, but after about half the song, he left the stage, and the dancers finished the number. Despite being an incredible singer with an incredible ear, there was nothing Adam could do to save it. After that experience, I noticed that Adam made sure he had on stage monitors facing toward him on the stage in addition to using in-ear monitors. A back up plan that he consistently uses, even with Queen.
I am not a Mariah fan, but I felt for her and was sorry that it appeared like she was drunk, unprepared, or confused. Yes, singers have performed for centuries before in-ear monitors, but the set-ups were different. They had stage monitors, or they were in concert halls designed for live singing. Today's concerts rely on totally different technology.
When Adam had his ear monitoor fail my heart just hurt for him. And my heart went out for Mariah this time. Wonder if in the future, she will insist on a back up to ear monitors like Adam does.

When was the ear monitor fail? Not something I tried to remember. I THINK it was during the GNT. And towards the latter part of the set. And he exited stage right, but that is where his sound man always is, so that is probably not much of a hint. Sorry I cannot be more specific.

And he exited stage right, but that is where his sound man always is, so that is probably not much of a hint. Sorry I cannot be more specific. It was somewhere in Germany during the GNT, I think during Strut. When he came back on after the song ended he apologized and said he'd had a coughing fit! He he also had the monitor fail at the start of the Madonna song on the Divas show. He wasn't as off key as during that GNT one, but enough to be noticeable, but he soldiered on and as soon as he got the sound back he immediately hit his stride. And despite an initial panicked sort of look to the sound guy, he didn't make a big deal out of it. i think the reason, or a reason, Mariah was ridiculed for this is that she now has such a reputation as a diva, she obviously lip syncs at least sometimes, and it seems she can't consistently hit the notes she became famous for.
