I was wondering what the label would be paid out for those TOH streams in 2016-17? Anyone know ? (Doubt we would ever know how much Adam gets ---as who knows what the song writer royalties might be per song, production costs etc. etc. ) But at least the label is getting a return on their investment and Adam a piece of that pie. By googling I found a 2013 article that stated Spotify paid, at that time--- .004891 per stream. If Adam's streams were back then, would that put the pay out at over a million dollars in 2013? Would those streams equate to album sales of 73,500 ish if an album was 15.00? Thanks

Keep in mind that the figures Skaschep posts are totals of every country. << That info is for certifications. How much Spotify pays for streaming, i have no idea. I just know it is way way better than You Tube pays. Here's a little blurb from an article about Spotify payouts. And now for the hard number per stream! Obviously the number will vary depending on the percentage of free users listening to your music, but we have a pretty accurate calculation for you if you use Indigoboom. One thousand Streams will currently earn you in the area of 5.50 USD. If you also are the songwriter your collecting society will pay you per stream as well increasing the number per 1K streams with about 40%. Royalty payments from us to indie artists in the area of 10K USD per quarter are not unusual. And the best thing about streaming income is it generally just goes on and on and on once you have established yourself, got on a few playlists etc.
ETA: Using her figure of $5.50 for every thousand streams, I came up with $1,164,069. That seems high. Someone needs to check my Math! He gets more for the songs he wrote.

I probably need to let my techie hubby update. Thanks for the answer, Graciejane.

Would those streams equate to album sales of 73,500 ish if an album was 15.00? Thanks Spotify currently gives 55 percent of all revenue back to the labels and artists get a share of that. Warners and Spotify are in the midst of negotiating a new deal but that will not effect TOH. The new deal should result in Adam getting a bit more on A4. The amount an artist makes from streaming on Spotify is directly tied to each month’s performance. Not just of that artist, but of their publisher and the entire streaming service as a whole. it is also tied to what the artist owns -- just like all royalties. An artist like Adam who owns 0% of the master recordings, about 25% of the compositions (because his songs are co-writes), and has a publishing company handling administration gets a low “average” payment per play. Spotify does not calculate royalties based upon a fixed “per play” rate. An artist’s royalty payments depend on the following variables, among others: • In which country people are streaming an artist’s music • Spotify’s # of paid users as a % of total users; higher % paid, higher “per stream” rate • Relative premium pricing and currency value in different countries • An artist’s royalty rate - Adam does not own the recordings, so he earns less that if he owned them. What he has a songwriting credit on a track, he gets more than when he doesn't.

Thanks for the answer, Graciejane. You go like the LGBTQ@Facebook page. Then just refresh your browser and it's there. I figured it out because I was so jelly of all the little rainbows I saw!

Your math is right but the rate is high. It is a bit higher than the composite rate, total royalties paid by Spotify to the label, artist, songwriters and publisher. Here an example of real royalties from Spotify....for an indie band that writes all their songs. Average per-stream payout: $0.004891 or $4.891 per thousand. In other words, they do not have to split the royalties with songwriters or a label. www.digitalmusicnews.com/2016/05/26/band-1-million-spotify-streams-royalties/

Q3 and pattihum...appreciate your time clarifying more about streaming payments. I know it has been discussed before on Atop but as you have so throughly outlined Q3... it is quite the formula. I now remember a few of your statements and they have definitely been shared before...I just forgot. ( like the amount of total income from streams per month --etc etc) The words about "who owns the master recordings" did not even cross my mind as to how to describe why the label would get the lion's share. It encompasses all the writing, production, administration etc. ( good learning moment) I was googling a bit more...and I am still confused on the concept of who gets more royalties the artist or the songwriters. I thought the songwriters got more, but articles said the artist receives more in streaming...or I was reading it wrong. I guess being both a writer/co- writer and the artist is the best scenario. It is so darn complicated I feel that I should give up on my trying to imagine what sort of % Adam would earn . I am sure his bank account is better than mine; he is doing better than fine! Oh...PS...Q3 ...that was the article that I read re the .004891. YES--- makes sense now - The Indie folk are their own label, writers, performers. Adam is NOT in the situation, therefore a much smaller % take.
