Depressing but very illuminating film by Jared Leto on the business side of music from musician perspective. He released the film in 2012 and it is called Artifact. It is available on Netflix and someone has uploaded it to youtube. Well worth watching if you have the time

Same here...I was not "feeling" WBR anyway lately and these news just add to my inner uncertainty about them... Makes me even more thankful for QAL. That financial security must let Adam breathe a little easier, despite any other challenges. Plus, a bunch of guaranteed performances until new music.

Before getting " my knickers in a twist", is there any info that this guy in particular had any impact on Adam during the RCA era? A lot of folk work at RCA.
And agree, becoming an independent artist-- BIG NO!
There is support, connections with writers, producers, and status being with a label.

Maybe someday if the need arose for a new label and there was mutual interest he could sign with UMG, Universal Music Group, which has a ton of artists: Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Adele, QUEEN.

I know my heart sank when I saw that name. I can't find anything specific right now, but I seem to remember this name was somehow connected with the direction RCA wanted for Adam.

Before getting " my knickers in a twist", is there any info that this guy in particular had any impact on Adam during the RCA era? A lot of folk work at RCA. And agree, becoming an independent artist-- BIG NO! There is support, connections with writers, producers, and status being with a label. These top level folks waltz in with a whole army of people that they bring along. A specific guy does not personally have to deal with Adam to have control. But Adam and Tom Corson have met, not sure how much. He knows who he is dealing with and whether he ultimately got support there or did not. It was suspiciously quiet on the wbr front for a very long time, Adam bridged by putting almost everything into QAL, which also suited Queen's needs, given the advanced age of Brian and Roger. But it was clear that there was something cooking, and the comment that A4 feels a bit like TP2 was made by multiple people over the months. There are also other things amiss with the top biz end of things imo (has nothing to to do with Adam) and I pointed that out yesterday. Will not go into that again, politics is an ugly field and should stay away from here. Anyhow, leadership comes from the top, good or bad. Adam being stuck in some morass of negativity is not something I wish for him or any of us. Quite frankly, Adam did not get much radio play in the US for Ghost Town and seems to have lost Canada when he moved to wbr, so we are dealing with the question of radio play in EU and select Asian countries. Yes, it is a loss, but not worth working for an unappreciative and ungrateful team that kills all artistic joy. In today's music world, streaming can lead to success, but you need to be a team rather than an individual, if you want to garner enough attention to drive traffic to whole playlists on an ongoing and continuous basis. If Adam can find that positive and supportive team within the new structures that wbr is establishing, then fine, and he can be part of that, if that is not the case, then it does not make sense to stay stuck. And he is walking into this with open eyes and probably some deja vu thoughts of his own. Whether it is within a label or outside, it is time to go back to Motown practices and build an enterprise from the ground up, imo. But you need a team, not just one individual, because you need to release regularly, change those playlists constantly and bring new songs out all the time. No one person can sustain that, but a team totally can, it will still take time to build it up, and once they start having success, the sharks will be circling, so it will be a marathon. But I do believe that it is where music will go, and we will have to see what Adam's role in this is. Adam has enough capital to sustain his career, he is bringing a fan base and name recognition, and obviously all his skills, both as an artist as well as a team oriented guy and leader. I like Mike Posner a lot, totally different music and not my style musically, so I was never a fan, but a really honest and real guy, who also had some career success, but cannot break through, just on his own. There are tons of others, and then there are song writers and producers in the background. It is a whole team that is needed. If you ask me, Adam's role is changing, and those of us who are hanging in there will get to enjoy the years of growth. But it will be small pickings at first, on the solo career side, if he decides to change paths. And it will be a time of wait too, if he decides not to change paths. I am very thankful that Adam has QAL to lean on, financially, security wise, in a sense of a team he is now part of, guidance, support and everything that comes with it. And we get to see and hear him live around the world, too. Adam will need to make the decisions for himself, without feeling pressure from us. I will bridge time, do other stuff elsewhere, but I am always around to come back into action, when there is something going on, have done that for years now, and will continue to do that, whatever the decision is that he makes for himself. I think we need to keep an open mind so he can feel free to do whatever it is he needs to do with the situation. And one thing we should not do is panic. He's got that, we just need to be open, imo. Or not give Two Fux! I am unable to do that, I always care about him, he got me hooked sufficiently to make it impossible to not care, but i am able to remain open for whatever happens next. And that is what I am planning to do. Care to join?

It's hard to say specifically what it might mean but in general label executive shakeups cause problems because the way labels function you can be the apple in someone's eye and be getting good support but when the new people come in they have their own favorites and so there is the potential of loosing that good will, attention and focus. It's all a bit nebulous and hard for the artists themselves to deal with as it is totally out of their control. You can have a great team who believe in you but when the shakeups happen and things get shifted around you can suddenly find yourself with no one in your corner advocating for you so to speak and no way to really know what will happen until the dust settles and it's a done deal.
If anyone wants a lesson in the potential nightmares of label dealings look up the history of @iamjojo. She is one of the people at that writing camp and had a long nightmare of basically being held hostage by a label that she had signed with when she was still a minor. I think it took her 7+ years to get out of the situation that she was in.
I don't think Adam has ever had a particularly bad deal but that doesn't mean it's smooth sailing because even the best deals can turn sour.
