Hasn't it already evolved?...in a way... from what he said on the US leg to the EU leg...he keeps it shorter, simply addressing that there is someone else up there than the iconic front man Freddie Mercury and just letting people know he respects and loves the band and is a fan himself... I don't think it is self-deprecating. He states that many in the audience are thinking "He's not Freddie." That is true. He says there will only ever be one Freddie Mercury. That is also true. As is the fact that Adam is a fan. None of that is a put down of Adam. To me, his statements are basically saying, in a non-confrontive way, "Stop comparing me to Freddie. Stop yearning for a past of 26 years ago. It is not disrespectful to Freddie to perform Queen's music. (And, remember that there are two other members of Queen who are still playing their hearts out for you.) I am here, now, to entertain you. Let's all have fun and enjoy this moment in time." From the audience and critics' reaction to his speech, it seems to strike just the right chord, giving them permission to fully rock out and move on. I AM glad they changed the ending of Bo Rhap. Seeing Freddie singing with Adam was touching, but it ends the show looking back at Freddie longingly, instead of celebrating how his music and genius as a composer live on in new and compelling performances. I hope Adam does shorten the speech about Freddie.. also hope he changes up his other comments to audience.. I know the show is new to many but lots of us go timeless times.. Spontanious would be great...Other than that, IMHO He is the best singer in the world and I love him beyond belief

cassie, from a purely technical standpoint, how difficult is it to sing and do this at the same time! Let's put it this way. Adam demonstrates excellent control of his muscles for breath control and other things as well.

Lol, Cassie....all true...on the surface...BUT comes across self deprecating IMO...May be if he could drop the “no shit” bit...idk...I agree it was an effective bridge builder , but my point is next time around perhaps it’ll no longer be needed...

Interesting perspective. I would welcome the day Adam does not need to address "he's no Freddie". At this point, however, I think it allows many in the audience let go of their bias against this American twat, and be open to hear and see what a marvelous performer Adam is. Humility in someone so obviously talented is a very attractive trait. I suspect it is also one that Adam cultivates intentionally. I think he knows how extraordinary his voice is. I have never heard him disparage his singing. The closest he has come is in saying when he was first asked to tour with Queen he wondered if he could handle it. I don't think he worried if he could sing the repertoire as much as being uncertain if he could do so for the entire two hours without taxing his voice. Without losing energy. But that was before he embarked on this journey, and he now knows he CAN handle anything they throw at him. Few pop/rock singers could maintain their voice like Adam does, singing such a demanding set throughout an extended tour. And even fewer could sing every song in the Queen catalog. Adam knows that. After his seven years of solo and QAL concerts, Adam also knows he can put on a dynamic, compelling show engaging and enthralling an audience. I think he probably has a very healthy ego when it comes to performing music. Perhaps his humility comes from that confidence. He doesn't have to boast or pose or act the diva to cover insecurities. He doesn't need to tell anyone how good he is, because he shows it in every performance. Perhaps, having garnered the highest praise from Brian and Roger themselves, he knows that Freddie's legacy is no threat to him. He can hold his own, and perhaps (shhh, don't tell anyone) exceed Freddie's live performance in some way. He can afford to show deference and respect for Freddie and his place in history. IMHO.

cassie I've always wondered about Adams "if he could handle it" too and when I recently learned about the "Fächer" in Opera that you grow into as your voice matures and asked myself he meant that with it.

Most spontaneous banter, no matter the artist, is almost the same at every show. I told the story here years ago, about my first P!NK concert. Her banter during her acoustic part of the show seemed so special and specific to LA! Then when I bought her tour DVD, filmed in OZ, she said the exact same thing! LOL! Most people don’tsee as many concerts as Glamberts do. To the majority, it IS spontaneous!

What is this Qucksilver reference? Does he not know Adam’s name or is this some cultural reference I’m missing?
