Live review Brisbane by blankgc.com.au/queen-adam-lambert-live-review-bec/Reviewer Loved the show...mentioned Adam only in passing! But those sentences were very complementary "When Freddie passed, we were left with a void in one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Thankfully that void has been filled by Adam Lambert, someone of immense swagger and talent. Powerful and soulful, Lambert’s voice is the perfect accompaniment to Queen’s distinctive sound." He pretty much described the essence of Adam's success with Queen - "swagger", "talent", "powerful", and "soulful". I would like to add a bit more...charisma, looks, humility, and not taking himself too seriously.

But he is also paying for all the production too! His "official statement" sounds like a bunch of BS, to me! PR BS, to be exact! I think it's a bunch of BS to me also. I think Queen probably just dumped him since he's doing something that competes with QEX. Not sure if Queen had one but I know when I've started new jobs, I've signed contracts where you cannot do something that competes with the current employer. I hope this means that we'll see less bashing by the MM trolls on anything that has to do with Adam. For the moment most of the bashing has moved to the NEW new guy. It is a shame though that the change was not known when the tickets first went on sale...it strikes me as having happened quite recently. Wonder if this is part of why Brian has been in a bit of a funk.

Plus every information of MM being involved with QEX had also disappeared from his homepage. So they had asked, if Marc has left, but never got an answer until yesterday. Some were smart enough, not to buy a ticket until now. But reading the facebook-posts makes it clear, that most fans had no idea and many are very disappointed. And I can completely understand them. As for Brian: Isn't Roger the one mostly responsible for QEX?

Roger has taken lead on the QEX project from all accounts, while Brian seems to lead more on the movie. Brian appears to feel pretty much every issue deeply be it animals, politics or whatever the issue of the moment is. I cannot image that things going whacky with a Queen project would not impact and stress him. Just my impressions as I don’t follow the fan pages of any of those projects or the band itself.

Is Queen music “public domain”? Can anyone start a tribute band and start using those songs? How does this work?

nica575 good point you're making. If they are still "in charge" of their music Marc couldn't just go out and play it without permission. As far as I'm informed, art becomes public domain 75 years after the artists death, at least in Germany. Which is why Schiller, Göthe, Shakespear, Mahatma Gandhi, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and the like are public domain. Otherwise it depends on who has the rights to the music and who clears it. Michael Jackson once owned a good junk of the Beatles catalog. Bono/U2 clears his own songs, which is why Simon Cowell personally talked to Bono to get permission for Adam to sing the song "One" on Idol. This is what I know, no idea about Queen though.

From what I recall during the last political campaigns, as long as the VENUE has a blanket license that includes the music then it can be used, otherwise the artist would need to license it. I gather this covers live cover performances as well as using original recordings.
