I know Marc has been to at least one QAL show, possibly 2. When Adam went to the UK to rehearse for the 2012 EU tour, Dr May said it was the first time he'd heard "his song" WWTLF sung in the key in which he wrote it. He cried! From what I remember, Marc saw QAL 2014 in Madison Square Garden and 2017 in Nashville. So at least two times. And he never met Adam...😏

Oh, this does not sound good. I actually do not think it sounds as terrible as y'all do. Not great. But basically on pitch (an F#5, not an F like the guy said), and has some vibrato at the end. But, just because a person can produce a note in some sort of fashion, doesn't mean they should. It makes me think of that famed whistle register that, who is it?, Whitney? sang. "Wow! Listen how high she can sing!!! Phenomenal!" No, not so much. Those dog whistle high notes add nothing to the emotion or interpretation of the song. They serve no function except to make the listeners' jaws drop. John's singing of that phrase just sounds wrong for the song, for the emotion, for the storyline. Jesus is in agony, wrestling with God's will. He has been told he has to volunteer to be brutally tortured to death. "WHY SHOULD I DIE????!!!!!" Did you hear any of that agony, that test of faith, that struggle to understand and accept, that fear of ultimate torment? Or did you just hear a very high little note? Will it blow people's minds? Probably. The audience loves ultra-high notes. Will it enhance the drama? Advance the story? Emphasize the greatness of Jesus' sacrifice? NOPE. In fact, it will likely throw people out of the storyline rather than increase its impact. That is another thing that Adam does with great skill: He tells the story. His rendition serves the intent. He talks about that frequently with performing Queen's repertoire. He doesn't mention singing high notes. He doesn't try to imitate Freddie's style physically or vocally. He wants to be true to the intent of the composer. Oh, the boy is enough of a show-off to throw in amazing notes and phrases and riffs and moves. He knows how to hook an audience and make them gasp. But, not at the expense of the song itself, if you know what I mean. John's comment, or was it the other guy's, about it blowing their minds, or impressing them or whatever, makes me very leery of the direction of this production. After seeing this clip, I have several reactions. One is that I am so glad Adam is not part of this production if this is going to be the quality level. (And I do like John Legend in other things I have seen.) Legend is definitely over his head here. My other reaction is that I kind of wish Adam would have been in this show just to show what real quality is. Brandon Victor Dixon, who will be playing Judas, is from theater, so he probably has a really good voice, although, based on that clip of Brandon we saw here, his voice is not as rich as Adam's. I wonder if John L. has ever heard Adam sing? I think this show is John Legend's "baby." He wants that Emmy so bad. His voice is fine for the pop/rock sort of stuff that he does. But he doesn't have a theater voice at all. But apparently that is not what they are going for in this show. And yes, it's absolutely true that just because you can strain yourself to reach a note, it doesn't mean you are actually singing it well. But I guess lots of people will be impressed anyway. Sigh.

thanks Cassie for your insights! I do get you're point about it not being "that bad"...while as I said I think it's controlled and he can reproduce it, it does sound like he's barely reaching the note, like he's having a hard time hitting hit...if that makes sense...it's doesn't seem to be in his comfort zone...vocally I agree. Not at all comfortable for him or me.

When fans say Marc or Paul are better than Adam, I don't think it is because they have not heard Adam. I don't even think they really believe what they are saying. But they are cheering for their favorite or trying to downgrade what Adam can do. When Adam and Angie sang "Titanium" on Idol and fans and media were raving about the performance, KA fans were saying his version done on his club tour was better that Adam's. According to them he should have been invited instead of Adam (cause he won ya know), lol. Most don't take this stuff seriously. Adam is known for being an extraordinary vocalist and he shows it often enough to just brush off the naysayers. No comparison or explaining is even needed.
