I still wonder what Simon thinks of Adam over the past few years; I wish some interviewer would ask him. He doesn't have Carrie, Kelly, Clay, or Daughtry-type numbers, commercially, but Simon always said during S8 that Adam was both a love/hate type of performer as well as a genuine star. So I felt that he thought Adam deserved to be a huge success but might have difficulty, both with his musical style and because of bigotry. He's definitely become an international star, if a modest one, and he's definitely a "love" type of performer for people who actually know about him. QAL is helping to familiarize more people with him, I think, and hopefully A4 can reap some of that harvest. I don't think you can measure commercial success only by who has sold more albums. Most of them sold well before the market changed and they were out years before Adam. But other than Carrie (5 time) and Kelly (1 time), Adam (1 time) is the only other Idol to top the Forbes list of highest earning Idols. He has been on the list year after year and Clay has been nowhere in sight on the list in years. Muti-million dollar Headlining world solo tours. Millions more with world arena tours fronting Queen. Gold/platinum albums and singles in the US and multiple other countries. Award wins in several countries. Carrie and Kelly have won Grammies and Adam and Daughtry have been nominated. When they list the most successful Idols they always start with Carrie, Kelly, Adam, Daughtry and Jhud then some will add a few more on different lists. Carrie has the highest net worth followed by Kelly then Jhud then Adam (when Queen updates are made I think he will pass Jhud). Jordin and Daughtry are tied for 5th place. I'm pretty sure Simon is somewhat aware of how well Adam is doing. Adam has done great for himself. Still hoping A4 will bring him bigger success in the US and internationally tho.

I wasn't trying to discount the success he's had. I was only curious what Simon's perspective on it and on Adam in general would be, a few years removed from the Idol season. He was skeptical at first but became such a great fan over the course of the season, so much so that he gave up any pretense at impartiality towards the last few weeks. He looked like a proud papa that time Q+AL performed on the X Factor, but I'd still love for him to be asked about Adam in some interview.

Yep, Simon did look very proud of Adam on XFactor. Did he also have a say in Adam being selected to be a judge on XFAU?

I feel like he surely must have been involved somehow in that decision, but I don't know how all of that works.
