Just Googled and read Wikipedia about LMD. Can’t find anything that says it was released as a single in the US or sent to radio here. That’s exactly the way I remember it.
Not sure that "released as a single" means much anymore. But few tracks have such an odd history as LMD.
If it charts as a single, I refer to it as a single.
It was certainly released as a single -- it was only odd in the US where it was sort of released, twice. Then was never really released here.
**
First Avicii "leaked" about a week before the album was released.
After “True” was released on Sept. 17, 2013. LMD started to get some Club play in the U.S. Not enough to chart.
Then it got some U.S. radio airplay and digital sales and charted for one week in the U.S. (see below). So at this point it was a track that radio was treating as released -- I guess that is a sort of single.
Then it faded away -- and the focus stayed on WMU and HB.
After they made the deal with Lipton there was a plan to release LMD (radio edit) world wide as a single in May 2014 but then Lipton split the summer 2014 campaign and the US and Canada got a different campaign (no LMD). In the meantime, LMD was released as single #5.
That is why the LMD Radio edit was "released" in April 2014. I am not sure it was really released -- so maybe appeared is a better word.
May 16, 2014 released in the UK:
The Swedish DJ will release 'Lay Me Down' as the fifth single from his debut album 'True', which peaked at number two on the charts last year.

I own a copy of a U.S. radio promo CD with LMD 3:24 radio edit on it from April 2014 -- I believe the original idea was to release it in the US was scrapped before it really started because of Lipton. (Dance is a format that still used CDs for promotion.)

LMD charted in the US on two Billboard singles charts - Oct 5, 2013 #14 Dance Sales Chart, 1 week on the chart:
www.billboard.com/music/Avicii/chart-history/dance-electronic-digital-song-sales/song/797548And #22 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs on the same week (Continuous airplay, single sales, digital downloads, online streaming, reports from DJs)

Setting all of that aside, there is no sign that LMD was a big miss. And the song really did get a lot of exposure in some markets.
In retrospect, I think it would have had a better shot without Niles' bass on it. And many of the club remixes remove the "discoy" parts.
