I like to think that Queen is "big" and sought after enough currently to be asked to perform at the Oscars, but that the band decided to be "classy" and opt out in order to avoid even more drama. I agree that the BS controversy must have gotten to them, especially Brian, in addition to the constant questioning of the movie's success. So, I agree with your assessment, nightowl , and I hope the issue was not that The Oscars organizers wanted a different lead singer. cheriemelissa, yup Super Bowl would have been awesome. Could it be that they booked the performers before they realized the success of BoRhap and the power of Queen music?

There isn’t really anything to gain for them by performing at the Oscars. The movie has been in the theaters successfully for months. They are/have been the most streamed band since its release. They are high up in the charts all over the world. And their North American Tour is almost sold-out - Queen has never been this successful in the US before. Never. Re Super Bowl: I would guess, that the acts are booked much earlier than they get announced. But I‘m not sure. My question is: I‘ve read somewhere, that the artists have to pay for their performance at the Super Bowl. Is that true? If it is: Would Queen still want to do it?

I am wondering if we should still put this into the "rumor mill" category or if there is something to it. If(!) Queen denied opening at the Oskars, I wonder why. The shitstorm on Instagram hit Brian hard. I can imagine, that they don’t want to give the press in Hollywood anymore occasions to rip them apart, because of that Singer involvement. The backlash is hard enough already. But it’s still the movie, that’s in the focus of the criticism. If QAL performed, it would hit the band directly. I think, that it might have been clever to let that occasion slip under these circumstances... to add: Or just an idea: Maybe Adam isn’t available at the time, because he will be in full promo mode? Because he will be somewhere else in the world? I completely forgot about the shit storm. That was awfully hard on Brian and to quietly bow out makes sense.

Yes, Maroon 5 was asked long before the movie came out so there was no way anyone would have thought about them performing at the super bowl. It's just too bad the timing was so off because this would have been the year to have them.

But it is The Oscars and likely some politics involved. And we still don't know if they were definitely asked or if it is just rumors.

Personally I don't think she gives a damn. When she performed with them the last time she ran all over the stage like Adam wasn't even there. Stood next to Brian for a while. I thought she was a terrible partner on stage and it sounded pathetic! Adam was on his knees in front of her and she walked away leaving him there. She is not who I would choose to sing with ever!!!!!!!!
Take a look at GaGa's performance with the Stones singing Gimme Shelter.
Same behavior as performance with QAL. She moves away to her own space plus IMO awkward chemistry between her and Mick.
Then contrast with Fergie, U2 and the Stones singing Gimme Shelter at the Rock Hall of Fame show.
Is it wrong of me to wish she would just fall over on those damn shoes!

Or did he do a Twitter Party at 7 am ( right, when I had to leave the house for work - bad timing Adam! ), because he was heading for the airport?

Oscars is a heck of an opportunity to turn down. I think too maybe have something to do with the controversy. Best to avoid that. Who knows. May just be a unsubstantiated rumour.

I completely forgot about the shit storm. That was awfully hard on Brian and to quietly bow out makes sense. Don't know if they were even asked. I have my doubts. But it is still a reminder for them not to answer these busybody fans, with all their advice, on social media about controversial issues. More likely than not it will blow up in your face. Trying to blame everyone associated with the movie, in even a small way, for the bad actions of BS that have been alleged for over 20 years is ridiculous. Ignoring them and not addressing the issue would have been better for all. It only brings the media into it, tho, they don't need many reasons to try to drag everyone into it. I really hope they did not have to pass on this opportunity because of the shit storm. No matter who she is performing with, Gaga will try to upstage everyone. So not interested.

I think your being a bit harsh on Gaga. She is performing with Cooper at the Oscars. Watching some of their performances. She’s a very gracious duet partner. Maybe in the past she’s been a bit of diva. But I think she’s grown as an artist
