Queen, Adam Lambert Prep ‘The Show Must Go On’ Documentary Two-hour project will debut on ABC in AprilBy RYAN REED Queen detailed a new documentary, 'The Show Must Go On,' which includes interviews with Brian May, Roger Taylor and Adam Lambert. Queen detailed a new documentary, The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story, which debuts Monday, April 29th on ABC. Jim Beach and Simon Lupton produced the project, which traces Lambert’s rise from obscurity to competing on American Idol to joining the iconic rock band. The Show Must Go On, named after the closing track from Queen’s 1991 LP, Innuendo, includes rare concert footage, behind-the-scenes clips and exclusive interviews with band members Brian May, Roger Taylor and Lambert, Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek, Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins and American Idol judge Simon Cowell. “So excited about our documentary,” Lambert tweeted Monday. Queen and Lambert, who opened the 2019 Oscars with “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions,” recently announced a summer North American tour. The 23-date trek “Rhapody” tour—a reference to Bohemian Rhapsody, one of the highest-grossing music biopics of all-time—launches July 10th in Vancouver, British Columbia and wraps August 23rd in Charlotte, North Carolina. Bohemian Rhapsody, which focuses on the band and late frontman Freddie Mercury, earned four Academy Awards, including Malek for Best Actor, Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing, and was nominated for Best Picture. The film also spawned a career-spanning soundtrack that peaked at Number Three on the Billboard 200 chart. Since I brought up the subject of negative comments under the Oscar performance video yesterday, here's an update after 5.6M+ views on the video. I was watching the video again and looked at the first couple most recent comments, and was pleasantly surprised.. the comments were totally different from the ones posted when the video first showed up. There are still a few MM trolls, but they were put in their place by unfamiliar posters, so not the usual suspects or obvious Adam fans which was cool. There were actual respectful convos going on with a few exceptions.. The key is to make sure you're reading the most current posts vs the old ones. I had to laugh at one convo about how you can be a straight man yet think Adam or another guy is "pretty".. a real educational moment . Here's one of the posts.. MrBuddybones 5 hours ago To all the Adam Lambert haters: Brian and Roger have made it clear they don’t want a Freddie impersonator. Frankly, that would be lame. There’s only one Freddie. They don’t want to be a tribute band. They picked Adam. Deal with it or don’t see them. He is respectful of their past, but sings in his own style. It takes a lot of confidence and humility at the same time to try to perform as the frontman of an iconic band like Queen, knowing there will be many old fans who won’t accept you. Hard enough if the former frontman left the band, but is still alive (David Lee Roth, for example), but extremely daunting if the former beloved front man and friend passed away. John Deacon didn’t want to go on without Freddie. Do you think Brian and Roger want to perform with someone who sounds like their old band mate/friend? That would be emotionally difficult. Adam is a part of their musical family now. You don’t have to like it or him. A lot of open-minded people enjoy seeing and hearing them live still. Without Adam they have said they would not have toured again. I’m glad they do, and I’m glad they found someone who honors their legacy, but brings something new at the same time.
