In the documentary, when the showed the Iheart portion, I swooned. Adam looked like a combination of a model and a rock star. And you could just tell he knew how good he looked. The confidence was electric. And as usual, he was on fire that night with his performance.
I don't know what it was about that night. He always looks and performs great but that concert was just off the friggin' charts in both departments. Was that one of the first times out that he was no longer hiding behind heavy makeup that was no longer dulling his glow?
May have been. Pics of him with Sauli at the Elton John Foundation in 2012 are all clean shaven and pretty heavy makeup. 2013 started the Melvin and a more natural look. But he didn't have a lot of high profile appearances, no Trespassing tour in the US, just some red carpets and no QAL since 2012 European. So yeah - new look pretty much.

My take on the doc airing is totally different. I think this was the agreement made as payment for them performing on the Oscars. Brian alluded to some drama. Adam said they weren’t, then they were. The Oscars needed a big opener having no host and something to pump up as must see tv. I could totally see Jim Beach saying this is what it will cost ABC, two hours of airtime for their documentary. And Philymack added while you are at it, we want two Idol slots for Adam. Abc found a week before they started The Bachelorette, so it all worked out. They got decent ratings for the doc and good press. Was a win, win, win for everyone. Jim Beach has always been a tough negotiator and business man The only problem with that is that they started with this footage last summer already at the O2. They recorded the shows there and people were made aware there were extra camera's. A lot of the concert footage with audience and such is from those shows. They also filmed quite a lot in Vegas already with Adam being interviewed and Brian. What could be is that they were planning it already and the air date came a bit quicker with the ABC deal. Hence the interviews done after the announcement with Adam and most likely also some other stuff which got added later. We'll see if they customize the documentary for other areas. I think I did see some of the European venues in the last shots of the Brian selfies. I think I even saw myself possible twice. I need a copy to verify that though so downloading it now! Yes, I know they already had a lot of footage done. I never implied this was anything new surrounding Oscars. Likely this was meant for a dvd release but negotiated the opportunity to get it aired on ABC. Add some extra edits and tweaks so everyone is happy.

That’s exactly what I‘ve been thinking, when the documentary was announced around the time of the Oscars: „Show our documentary on primetime TV and we will open for you the Oscars“. The thing that stood out for me was that this particular ABC documentary was obviously produced in the last few weeks. Oscars footage, extra interviews with Adam (we kinda know when he shot that), extra Rami segments. I am sure they have hundreds upon hundreds of hours of behind the scenes footage from around the world, so I believe this was a US-centric version produced by ABC for the occasion (Oscars, AI mentoring and upcoming performance). I totally expect DIFFERENT versions of the documentary for other markets, e.g. a UK-centric cut, an AU/NZ-centric cut (remember the 15 minutes footage on Vimeo with the aboriginal dancers segment?) I was surprised how little behind the scenes footage from the babyjesusfilms team was actually in the finished product (I don't mean this as a negative, the quantity and quality of footage from AI, IHRMF, IOW was a pleasant surprise). So I believe there is a potential for non-ABC-produced versions, or a DVD/BluRay extra disk if they decide to release some other concert in the future. Agree, it did seem very US focused and even then you wouldn't have known they have already done more than one US tour plus a Vegas residency, plus sold out for a 2019 tour. And other than one China shout out you wouldn't know about any over seas trips to Australia, Japan, Rock in Rio. But just like the movie, some things aren't part of the story you are telling, this time. Always leave room for the sequel.

I did find myself in the ending shooting from Brian's selfie stick! There are at least 2 venues where I was front row in there and one maybe. But for two I'm behind Brian's hair! lol! Cologne 2016 and Ziggo Dome 2017 I'm sure are in there. You can see me in my blue poncho in Cologne. I also think Glasgow 2017 is in there because of the small amount of people behind the trust and the round shape.
The last footage with BoRhap is from RiR Lisboa from 2016.
But you only know that when you have pictures from every venue!

I actually thought Netflix or dvd was initially intended when the ABC opportunity arose Glad it’s getting Netflix UK, that’s amazing. Oops, that’s idol! Good too

But regarding the AMA performance, what gave me chills was the comment "it was right out of the Freddie Mercury playbook". Don't know why that affected me but it was like an other worldly chill. Maybe because it framed it differently for you, and gave it a wider and legitimate context. I think many Americans thought, because of the backlash, that it was wrong of Adam to do that, when really it wasn't. The American media's reaction was wrong. That's exactly the right thing for an artist to do - be a rebel, be himself, and broaden the viewers concepts and horizons. That's Adam. We do get reminded of it often, even in more subtle ways

That's what I thought.
Another visual thing that I vividly remember from that performance: LEGS FOR DAYS!
And the vocals were totally on point, felt very organic, without the nervous/tense energy of some of the early shows the year before.
And this was the after party look. I mean, come on...
