Gosh what am I missing.. just watched American Idol on ON Demand..IMHO the best singers were cast off.. Only Laine moves me at all. The judges have driven me crazy this whole season they think everyone of the singers is a marvel .$25,000,000 to Katie... what ??why??? AI says this is the best show ever.. the most talented,etc.. How can they even begin to say this.. There is hardly any personality among four of them and voices pretty average to me.. Yikes... I am so underwhelmed OK I feel better now LOL

@cantorpedia: How terrible were the performances on last night's American Idol? How is this the same show that introduced us to Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, etc? Lol, I think they should have left Idol dead...neither the judges nor the contestants warranted a resurrection IMO. They could’ve shut down after season 8 as far as my watching the show is concerned but AI gives Adam the platform to reach a several-million-strong-prime-time audience and thus I am all for it!

All PR people are paid to speak in hyperbole, so every season is always "the best we've ever had." Blah blah blah. This bunch is certainly not in the "best-ever" category, IMO. But that means nothing. Viewers will vote. And they will vote for a winner who will do his or her best to make it in the music business. Winning Idol is no guarantee of that.

@alambstan: Screenshot of the @adamlambert parts from the article. In this article Brian says Adam "can do Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy ... which we wouldn't dream of throwing at Paul Rogders..." Dare we hope they'll add GOFLB to their new setlist? I mean, how does brian know Adam can do that song, unless he heard him?

Comments like "best Idol contestant ever"? Frankly, I don't see the "performer" in any of them but I guess I'm spoiled. I'd take Allison over Madison any day as far as big voices go.... gypsyladee I'm a person who GETS Alejandro---from his first appearance on Idol. The classical influences in his musicianship can't be denied. He's different, from the first note I heard, unlike any I've seen on the show before, he's original, and stays true to himself.I got the feeling that Adam recognized his artistry when he was mentoring him on Idol a few weeks ago. He kind of stood back, reluctant to change anything about his performance of Under Pressure,{which I didn't particularly like, but remained intrigued by.} Alejandro probably won't win---but I would be thrilled if he did. He has alot to offer the world of music, imo. And, just a thought ---Bob Dylan? an amazing vocalist ???? No---but has cemented his place in the history of music. Like Dylan, Alejandro makes me FEEL something every time he plays.

Yes, Alejandro is an outstanding artist, and I agree that Adam recognized that right away. I hope he wins. He’s the most interesting contestant on Idol since Adam, IMO. He’s the exact opposite of Adam, but that’s ok. There will never be another Adam.

Like Dylan, Alejandro makes me FEEL something every time he plays. I have no particular opinion about who wins Idol this year. I only watched the one show with Adam as mentor. But I do know that some of our most respected and successful singers often don't have the best singing voices. Their own voices are secondary to their songs, their vibe, their delivery, and a million other things that make that singer great. I love Dylan, Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart, Neil Young and some of the other classic singer/songwriters of the past. They don't have technically great voices, but who cares? They gave us great music. Lurleene, I can understand why you are drawn to Alejandro. He's got something in him that you recognize as different, something that comes from within him. Unfortunately, those types don't usually win a show like Idol. The winners are generally a little more generic and mainstream. Not that that's a bad thing. It's just what the Idol viewers tend to want.
