The thought that comes to my mind when I think of Adam’s “speech,” and of his deep show of respect for and even deference to Queen (Freddie, Roger, and Brian) is: “Adam can afford it.” I mean, he can afford to pay them all their due and then some precisely because he is SO rich in talent himself. (And in character, integrity, spirit, etc., too.) To me, “the speech” still rings true - I believe Adam IS in awe of Queen’s talent and catalog, that he feels honored to perform live the songs that people know and love because of Freddie’s talent and charisma and the band’s amazing (continued) excellence. I also think that as a performer, the speech strengthens the connection he makes with each audience and, so, in that way, is part of his professionalism, of giving the best show he can. I agree, the one thing that's noticeable about truly talented people is they aren't afraid of other people's talent, they don't hesitate to give credit to other people and they don't have a huge ego that needs constant stroking. I don't think the speech etc makes him look any less in people's eyes and I do think he genuinely means it, he gets more than enough praise constantly from Brian & Roger, they make it clear in every interview and comment how highly they rate him so I see what he does as giving back some of the love they shower on him tbh.

I love it that Dr Bri is lately presenting Adam as “our brother”! Makes me tear up almost...even more so than “the GFG”...

I too was hopeful for a moment that Adam's "humble pie worship" would end and transform into a crisp and respectful "carry the torch" speech. But now he is back to where he started many, many years ago and I find it extremely irritating. I think it is dorky and almost inappropriate at this point, and I wonder if it it may hurt him. I don't think it has to do with confidence issues as he seems to be quite aware of the magnitude of his role that he fulfills so splendidly, but may be it's his default line that he doesn't have to think about anymore as he has gotten so used to it, or may be it is his security blanket from overly harsh critics. I still don't get it. Edit/addition: I just read cassie 's comment, which helped me process things a little bit... "I also acknowledge that this is a Queen show with the addition of Adam. A majority of folks in the audience are there mainly for Queen; their music, their reputation, their history. And Freddie looms large in the minds of these folks. Regardless of how extraordinary Adam is in the role of frontman, and how amazing his vocals are, he is fighting an uphill battle to be accepted fronting such an iconic band. There are those just waiting to find fault in Adam. He has to win them over emotionally before they will listen with open ears and hearts. He has found a surefire way to do that by paying respect and homage to Brian, Roger and Freddie as he does." Read more: adamtopia.com/thread/5242/8-9-19-qal-chicago?page=4#ixzz5w83gg0l0I think we need to remember that while we’ve heard Adam say this 200 or so times, the average concert-goer probably hasn’t heard it and the average Queen fan will appreciate it. True. Most concert goers likely hear the standard speech for the first time, but I would argue that the average Queen fan would be okay with the modified "torch" version as well. I in fact have heard from non Glamberts that Adam is overly humble.

My take of the speech. I can only comment about the people in my section at the Vancouver show but from where I was seated ALOT of people kept saying " Hope they show Freddie" and because I loved Queen in it's original format and I've liked Adam since his idol days it bothered me. When Adam came out the people in my section began chanting Ay-Oh and I was like can you please stop and respect Adam and the band for that matter. Anyways I noticed ONCE Adam did that speech the people in my section calmed down and began seeing how great Adam was. I still think the speech is needed. I know for those who are alot more hardcore or who have seen multiple shows it may be annoying but for those people who are casual Queen fans who have come there because of the movie or because of the notion that they will see alot of Freddie it is needed as a wake up call. To me he isn't making himself seem unworthy or whatever to me it shows that yes I am great but there will only ever be one Freddie Mercury. Which is true each artist is unique in their own way and no one can replace another artist all they can do is be themselves.(btw that wasn't meant as a diss idk if that came out the way it sounded in my head) And tbh for me not only with that speech but just in general through the whole night you can see the respect Adam has for Brian and Roger and of course even Freddie and John. This isn't new he's said it multiple times but for me because it was my first time seeing Queen (while I had heard the speech before) it really brought it home seeing it all play out in person. It's different when an artist says they respect another artist in like an interview or something and it's another witnessing it. I hope that made sense.
