Adam Positivity: We live in beautiful Northern New Mexico, and to get to his job, my husband has to travel through what is simply known as The Gorge, a breath-taking yet dangerous drive. As he rounded a corner on his motorcycle, a huge male elk was standing in the middle of the road. If not for a guardian angel who saw my husband trying to climb up the side of The Gorge, my husband would certainly have been dead, and the doctors at University of New Mexico said he was fortunate to be alive at all. He has 4 broken neck vertebrae, two dissected carotid arteries, an occluded artery, nerve and serious soft tissue damage, among other things. However, we are blessed that he can move all four limbs and has no cognitive deficits, though we have to watch the dissected arteries due to remaining high stroke damage and some severe soft tissue damage all around the neck, including the esophagus.
Connection to Adam? I gathered songs that I could listen to while sitting in the hospital room and back in the hotel room at night, when it was quiet and all of the visitors had left. The very first song that came to mind was “ Time for Miracles”. I don’t know how many times I played it. And my husband asked me to get “Under Pressure”. but not the Freddie version—the Adam and Roger version. Other the almost inevitable first choice of Adam’s WWTLF, he has never done anything like that.
So I am grateful for Adam, and barring his doing something incredibly unforeseen, I always will be. His angelic voice has the power to inspire hope in times of despair and sadness but also during all of those all of the other, even mundane times, a kaleidoscope of emotions.
And really, what more can we ask? I just feel sorry that Adam felt compelled to share the specific lyrics from “Ready to Run” that he did, for it is, in my opinion, not a coincidence that he did so. But on a brighter note, as I was typing this and saw that my husband got up on his own and made a sandwich! He is now in strictly doing in-home therapy due to the distances here, so that will be something good to report to the nurse when she comes tomorrow!
In the meantime, if anyone can think of any Adam, or my husband likes QAL better, to add to the list, that would be great. My mind won’t let me do much except watch “Heartland” and read Oprah right now. Sorry for the length of this.
