Sponsor is usually a company that hires you and offers you a steady position / income. That's what my US-based employer does for me. The type of visa I have needs to be renewed every year and does not offer a path to a green card. A sponsor CAN be a person BUT it's usually extended to parents, children, step children or siblings. In other words, immediate family. Honestly, saying at your interview you want to live in the country because your girlfriend or boyfriend is a citizen is usually a kiss of death to your visa process IF it's the only reason you apply. What about a husband? My boyfriend is American, I'm Canadian and we have done some research on this to see you much trouble we would be getting ourselves into if we decided to get into and it sounds like these days it is commonplace for the non US Citizen to have to leave the country and complete the immigration process from their own home country following the marriage, unless they're otherwise qualified to work and live in the US (employment, etc) for the duration of the waiting period. Having a spouse who is very well off does help but if your case worker decides to be difficult, even that can be less than enough.

It was interesting that Javi changed his online Linkedin bio/resume to Spain and his work experience to details of his employment with Miracle Productions LLC which is Brian and Roger's company based in London. He omitted his previous "assistant to Adam Lambert" in connection with Miracle Productions LLC and showed him working directly for Miracle Productions along with all his responsibilities.

I didn't know he was Adam's assistant. So Adam didn't hire him directly, he involved Brian & Roger to do it through their company?

He had to go back to Spain for visa purposes, so his business profile has to reflect that for a little while. I didn't know that this is Bri and Roger's company. Seems like he'll be accompanying QAL then, for their Asia tour. All is well in the world.

I'm a huge JO fan, and this show is EXCELLENT. He explains so well the whole immigration process, which he has to go through periodically. It should be mandatory viewing for everyone, esp. those who think the whole "path to citizenship" is so quick and easy. Just having a work visa is complicated enough.

I was wondering when the visa status would kick in.
I still consider myself to be the child of immigrants - my grandparents came in from Poland and from Ireland to Jersey City, NJ where "No Irish need apply" was a common sign. My parents grew up in parts of Jersey City in which concentrations of particular immigrants gathered. Italian there, Polish/Slavic there, Irish there. And then later, the Spanish and Portuguese influx. My Roman Catholic all female high school in Jersey City now educates Muslim students. It's all good and leads to vibrant communities. So sad that politics has led us to question immigration and the welcome we used to have to those coming from across our borders.
(Disclaimer - my husband traces his roots to the Mayflower. He's not begrudging anyone coming here for a better life.

My son met a young lady in Ukraine when he was traveling a few years ago, in 2014 I think. They kept in touch but both were involved in other relationships. She was only 19 at the time. She showed up in Wisconsin for a summer job, then flew across the country to see my son for a weekend. Their relationship heated up, and they broke up with others to continue corresponding. Anyway, they are now married, BUT it has not been an easy road. They had to marry within 2 months of her arriving in the US, much sooner than they would have chosen to do so. Each time they came back to the US from visiting her family (and they also had another big wedding with her family and friends in Ukraine in 2016), they are subjected to a lengthy interview process. Now they are both living in Amsterdam, while she attends university there. But there are continual things she must do to maintain a residency in the US. They may just stay in the Netherlands, as it's such a pain here, and they really like living there. They are more aligned with the political climate there than here. But even there, they cannot work until they graduate from university there, or are sponsored by an employer.
