VAN HALEN STAR DAVID LEE ROTH TALKS ABOUT HIS VOICE & RETIREMENT
After the performance he made on January 8 at House of Blues in Las Vegas, many fans criticized David Lee Roth because of his voice and said it was terrible.
In a new appearance with Star Tribune, David Lee Roth, best known as the lead singer of the American hard rock band Van Halen, who formed in Pasadena in 1972, has talked about the shape of his voice and the retirement.
When asked if he’s thinking about retiring from his journey with the world-known rock band KISS, David replied:
“At my age, everything is a possible farewell tour… I’ve never had any delusions about my voice. It sounds like four miles of flat road with knobby tires.”
David also revealed the sentence his mother told him last week and said that his mother praised current Queen singer Adam Lambert.
“Mom used to say that; in fact, she said it last week. However, some people’s definition of perfect vocals might be pristine and pretty like Adam Lambert.”

www.metalcastle.net/van-halen-star-david-lee-roth-talks-about-his-voice-retirement/ While I respect those famed rockers who had long careers and worked hard and secured their place in rock history, I feel a bit sad when some of them don't know when to stop. DLR was part of one of the best bands around in its day, and he deserves respect. But I watched the videos posted here and they were cringe-worthy. I felt embarrassed for him. There comes a time when a singer should just rest on his laurels and stay off the stage. Also, there are many kinds of "good singing." Adam's pristine-perfect delivery is one kind. The bluesy rasp of Joe Cocker is another. The throaty rock screamers are also great in their own way. Diva belters can be fabulous but so can quiet, whispery voices. Variety is a good thing as long as the singer can deliver the goods.

Sorry to hear that about DLR. I was unaware. Unfortunately, even the most successful entertainers can wind up in a bad way. Makes you realize how important it is to take care of your money for the long haul.
