Adam is a generous performer with others. He is adaptable, and makes sure to blend with the other singer's voice and style. He shares the spotlight. He harmonizes well. He is a joy to work with. He ups the quality of the performance.
Having said that, what's in it for him to duet with someone? Other than getting noticed by the fans of the other artists? A type of self-promotion. As a master of his craft, there are other highly trained singers who could balance him and create something extraordinary together. But, I don't know of many pop singers that would apply to.
It might be a wise marketing and business decision. But, Adam doesn't seem to be interested in bending his artistic vision and performance for those reasons these days.
For me, I want to hear ADAM'S voice, not his voice blended with someone else's that is less stellar than his. JMHO.

He did a duet on Rumors, and - let's be honest - we all prefer the solo live version he did on The Original High Tour. I doubt it's anyone's favourite duet ever. If I'm wrong, and somebody actually prefers the duet version, I apologize. But, in all seriousness, there is a very small number of singers I'd want to hear on an Adam Lambert track. If he is featured as a vocalist on somebody else's track, that could be cool, but I personally just like to listen to Adam sing the main melody, the harmony, the backing vocals, everything, lol. Of course, some special live performances are cool and interesting as one offs. I mean, I still sometimes go back to watch some youtube videos of Titanium, or Girl Crush, etc. That is fun, because it's unusual. To make a recording, I feel there needs to be more of a purpose and a reason behind it, though maybe that's overthinking...

A little OT but it seems to be a slow day --
Harry Stiles was recently interviewed by Howard Stern and did his version of Sledgehammer and his new song (something like Adore). In any case, it was a good interview and I can see Adam and him getting along very well both musically and just in general. He had some interesting observations about musical longevity.
Yesterday (maybe the day before) there was some discussion about regional vs national vs global music exposure and it reminded me of something I had experienced a very long time ago. I was living in SE Asia in the mid to late 60's and our music exposure was very limited. When I got back to the States, I was riding from the airport to a friends house in Seattle. The station I was playing was current and they played Golden Oldies -- one of which was "Incense and Peppermint" by the Strawberry Alarm. I fell in love with it immediately. I just remember flipping out as to me it wasn't a Golden Oldie and then I started wondering how much music I had missed just because I wasn't stateside. Found out that The Monkees were a "thing" and even had a TV show......still don't know all their names.
