I've been struggling to define this for myself. I'm an aging rocker and classical instrumentalist, and just really couldn't figure Adam Lambert out, although I have been completely blown away since I first heard him in Feb of this year. I've now been to a Queen+AL concert. He is really both in love with what he can do with his instrument, and giving it away to the other musicians and to the audience. I can't really describe him as a showman, or even charismatic, because what he does seems to be so ingrained in his blood and bones. I've been around a long time and can't think of another male vocalist in my lifetime (70 years) who can touch him.

It's been a rather emotional week for me, more so than most days the past three months. Besides the "monsters" that we are currently fighting with uncertainty, it did make me sad to see the official confirmation by Adam that "Velvet" in concert won't happen. This weekend, I will watch the two December shows again that I was lucky to attend here in California. Happiest memories. That was it for me too. With all the cancellations, this one hit me the hardest cause I was holding on to an irrational hope. I just watched the entire Global Citizen QAL performances. And when the show ended, one of the MSNBC news ladies said that was Queen with Adam Lambert. He was a contestant on Idol and didn't even win and now he is the lead singer of one of the biggest bands in the world (something like that). I heard that when the performance was first broadcast but I teared up when I heard it again. Makes me miss QAL even more. But I have been re-watching some of those Dec shows too and the NY show. Adam at his absolute best as a solo artist, imo. But I think tonight will be another TSMGO from Netflix. It is keeping me sane, lol.

I haven't seen this posted anywhere, and I suggest to write Adam in and let BB know that Adam belongs on that list. Seems you have to be female and straight to be a gay icon....
Edit: oh I see it may be ‘gay ally icon’ - well you have to be straight and female to be one of those too.... Yep. I can never get too excited about this stuff. Until they allow more than one male LGBT artist on the US radio at a time, if at all, these ladies are already getting more than their share of exposure and publicity. Do something for the artists who could use the exposure and help then there will be something to celebrate, imo. Nice to have allies and nice to give them credit but what about the artists who have actually been held back or slowed down because of the discrimination?

@vtg2: I’m beginning to think “hindsight is 2020” was some kind of message from a future time traveler that we all misunderstood.

I love the conversations that center around the technical aspects of Adam's singing...because his abilities are really that astounding. And I love listening to people that get that, that understand that. He makes it look so easy that most people just don't understand how much effort and talent and knowledge is involved in making it sound that effortless and that flawless.
