I should have said that he thought he could walk. Talking is fine but he has what they call impulsiveness (common for right side stroke leaving left side weakness) and thinks he can do more than he can. I guess another cautionary tale is don't trust case manager workers. I have no time for details, we did get him back to Idaho, he probably shouldn't have been traveling, he got his bad leg injured a bit in one of the transfers because he thought he could walk and what he could do was stand up and pivot.
Anyway he is in therapy. He has gross movement in all extremities but not a lot of feeling so it's hard to do things with them. It's been 10 days.
Okay. Solarium is hereby known as the LIVING ROOM - fabric taupe-ish curved couches furry and gray geometric pillows corner fire place room is DEN - possibly brown leather upstairs small room is SMOKING ROOM - gray leather and paisley pillow down stairs yet to be seen room is MEDIA ROOM
But we don't want him smoking. Can it be something more new age like crystal, yoga, zen, incense or something.
But I'm also going to tell you that Living Room, Den, and Media room are not going to help the rest of us none layout junkies figure out which room you are talking about. I would be better off calling them all the same thing and just adding a floor to them to distinguish. Main Living Room, Main Den, 2nd floor LIving room, basement media room. And I miss solarium it sounds like a room with sky windows. Save
Hi all. I'm putting something in now since I have news. I weighed this morning and I'm down something like 6 or 7 pounds. How? Involuntary fasting and no sleep. I haven't had time to eat. I'm four days behind reading the main thread. My dad had a stroke on Monday, in a different state, and his Medicare Insurance is the squits (AARP can you believe it) I will leave a recap in the Member News thread, but suffice to say I haven't been thinking much about food. I bought M&Ms on the first leg of my trip to go get him two days ago and haven't finished the small package yet. That's unheard of. On Thursday I didn't eat before flying and the first I looked at food thinking maybe I was hungry was 7pm and they gave me an extra patient meal. On Friday I ate a granola bar when we were on the plane after noon and then had half a small hamburger before crashing at 6pm. Today a bit more but like I said it's weird looking at a package of M&Ms and not wanting them. I will be breaking the 8pm rule today but so glad that sounds like a plan for some of you too.
Now if I bound back up by Wednesday I'll be disappointed. I hope my body will adjust to the lower weight.
Thanks everyone. They are going to transfer him to a rehabilitation center today or tomorrow. He did have an acute stroke but it must have been in a good place. He can walk and talk. Sure would be nice if I had a relative in Vegas to run errands lol. Do they have services that do that?
I pretty much run year to year in a 6 lb up and down weight range so I'm no heavier than when I started but I'm not lighter either and that I've really got to work on.
I have been able to stave off some late night snacking do to a suggestion here last year about the Fast Diet. It's mostly pick two days a week to fast and then eat normally the other days. I haven't got to that point yet but I did pick up on a modification to it that extends your overnight fasting time. For me that just means that I don't consume calories after 8PM. Probably something a lot of people do normally but I wasn't making a conscious effort to do. It was a modification to my lifestyle that I was able to implement easily. I get the urge to look for food but the "is it after 8" question kicks in immediately and naturally. I wish more things were as easy for me to do.
Jablea Where are you from that this is unusual weather? Hope your dad gets better soon!
You may think of Idaho as being in snow country and most of it is but I live in what we consider the banana belt of the state. Sure we see snow at the top of the mountain above town but people usually can choose on most days whether they want to ski or to golf or some people try to do both in the same day. We usually don't have snow on the ground. Save
I have nothing Adam related other than he's played in Vegas and my dad is in the hospital in Vegas (details Member news thread) so I may have to fly there. I've been shoveling snow which we've done every day since before xmas. Schools have now cancelled their 5th day in a row (7 if you count the weekend) so xmas break is now 3 weeks instead of 2. This is all in a town where most years it doesn't snow enough to shovel at all. My street looks like we live at a ski resort and everyone is wondering if their roofs are built to handle this. Rain is on it's way and that will melt and then flood the streets and then freeze. Hey it's taken my mind off of other things and it looks like we are not alone with this unusual weather.
Doing some long distance health care. My dad is in a Las Vegas hospital getting checked out for a possible stroke and I'm up in snow and ice country. He's talking fine (a bit slurred), seems they are mostly lowering his blood pressure slowly. Had weakness in left arm and leg yesterday. Was fine and forgot about it and then same thing happened this morning and he fell down.
Dad's pretty independent, lives in a trailer year round, travels a bit with it and takes wildlife pictures. Ambulance crew rushed him out and he didn't get his glasses or phone charger. With any luck it will all resolve itself tomorrow and he'll be able to take a taxi and get back to his trailer and continue his winter vacation. If not then I get to fly down, park the trailer someplace for the winter, and drive him and his truck back here through the winter storms.
Look I'm not sure why your putting words in my mouth. I never said aids is funny. So please do not presume things, to the contrary. And make assumptions about me thank you. My lol was to the comments I read on his ig page.
I am not putting words in your mouth. Nor would I do that to anyone here. It is how you wrote it that gave me great pause. One does have a responsibility to write as clearly as possible on the internet. Many innocent comments are misconstrued. It happens a lot. People get angry with other people because tone and real intentions do not come across well. I am not presuming or making assumptions. Punctuation would have avoided this. IMO, the English language, that you are posting in should be as closely respected as possible.
There was absolutely no way that I, and maybe anyone else, knew that your "lol" was in regards to comments on his IG page. None. If you said it was, that would have resulted in a totally different comment by me.
I think that as members of this forum we have the responsibility to think the best of each other and to assume until proven otherwise that a regular poster has the best of intentions. I also think it's perfectly ok to ask for clarification as we have many members for whom English is not their first language, and even when it is then idioms in different countries and even different regions in one country can cause confusion. If I remember right they wear sleds on their heads in Alabama? Save
It's just a stigma. Their is a stigma with Males wearing makeup. You don't see SS doing it. But then again he's more safe I suspose. But you know the world Doesent need another Sam Smith or Josh Groban. They are normal and boring lol. Attributes I would never use to describe Adam. So that look msybe polarizing to ALOT of straight males. But I don't think it's fair, and not accusing anyone here. But fair to label straight males as one type. I'm a straight male. And I was like rock n roll!! I diddnt think instantly gay. I thought David Bowie lol. I guess I don't have any hang ups about alternate lifestyles.
Yep stigma exists on many fronts. Men and makeup women and hairy legs and armpits... just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. If you are outside the "accepted norm" then likely you'll get flack. But really most care way too much what others think. I have long wavy gray hair - not long bob long, but well down my back long. I have lost count of the number of times it has been suggested that I should cut it or dye it or both. That it is somehow unseemly for me to have long flowing GRAY (gasp) locks. Fuck em I love it and suspect Adam equally loves slathering on glam. #nofucksgiven
Yep, I was told by a young hair dress when I was barely into my 30s that I was getting to the age that I should wear it short. Yeah, did that as a senior in high school, never again. Save
