I have learned that Melvin was in use in private messages before this joke was posted. So, it seems it was not the inspiration for the name, but maybe a consequence. So, yes, LindaG23, the search continues.

I've always loved the "'Scuse me while I kiss this guy" mondegreen Where is this from? What should it be? I'm not familiar with it, or I've forgotten... I like reading mondegreens (and malapropisms), they're really funny and weird; unfortunately, I can never remember my own mondegreens, though I'm sure I had plenty over the years. It's from Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix. The original lyric goes: "'Scuse me, while I kiss the sky" Jimi Hendrix liked it and actually joked about it in concert. Kind of like Adam did when he covered it, except at times Adam did more than joke about it. This Adam's most famous performance of the song. 'Kiss this guy' at 1:00. www.youtube.com/watch?v=buwU6k7RP2c

There was a conversation in the daily news thread about misheard lyrics. I have collected the posts here. Some have been edited to keep just the relevant quote. I thought it would be fun to share our own and add to this list. Misheard lyrics are called Mondegreens. The origin of this term was helpfully explained by murly: The conversation was sparked by dontshakemytree and durberville hearing in Somebody to Love: "Need somebody to love bite!" Which was actually because of the break in the phrasing: "Find Me somebody to love, Find Me somebody to love, Find" Etc, etc. ----- Other misheard lyrics: I think I inherited this trait from Mom. I have a clear memory of her standing in the kitchen...in the 60's...listening to a song on the radio and then asking, in all innocence..."Why would they name a song 'I Love You, Big Horse' "!!!!! It was "I Love You Because" by....hmmm...wanna say Al Martino? To bring it back to Adam, that chant frustrated me to no end because I always found Adam to be such an articulate speaker and singer, that I rarely have a problem understanding him....except for this one time! "Hold me closer, Tony Danza!" --> I've heard: "Hold my clothes now, Tony Danza!" Some people think there's a line in "Bad Moon Rising" that says "There's a bathroom on the right." I read about a woman who thought Elvis had a song about a woman named Marcia Cook--"I'm in love! Marcia Cook!" I used to think that Paul Simon sang about "the war zone, Seventh Avenue" in The Boxer and was surprised to learn that he was actually singing about "the whores on Seventh Avenue." In the words of Emily Litella, "Never mind." --> Marcia Cook = I'm all shook up. (I had to look it up.) LOL Murly, I used to think there was a war zone on Seventh Avenue too! :D (By the way, maybe it says something about America's particular, speshul brand of prudishness--and this is certainly not an attack on you, Murly, I did it too!--that we jump more easily to 'war zone' than 'whores on.' To bring it back to Adam and on-topic, think about his comments post-AMAs about how much more prepared the country was for Rihanna's gun-laden choreo than his sexual performance.) I once read somewhere that the most saluted man in America was Richard Stans, as in "I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America, and to the Republic for Richard Stans." On the other hand, I also knew someone who used to say "I lead the pigeons to the flag..." One final Mondegreen--a personal favorite: My sister thought the song went "Lucy and this guy with diamonds." Makes much more sense, really! To bring it back to Adam: "'scuse me while I kiss this guy!" [img style="max-width:100%;" src=" The Archive of Misheard Song Lyrics (yeah.... there is such a thing) is called www.kissthisguy.com----- I agree with dontshakemytree that Adam is an articulate singer. Definitely more articulate than Freddie. Before Adam I thought this was the lyric in Dragon Attack: "Take me to the room where the green's all green and from what I've seen it's hot as a bean". :D Also, I thought it was "Sammy" walking wearily down the street with his brim pulled way down low. This one I found out about a while ago, but I used to think that the Killer Queen had "a spaceship of and appetite". Made sense to me. :D Share your own misheard lyrics below.

Getting these stripped AI vocals combined with the Redbeard interview triggered a thought on parallels. Adam-Takes a disco based "If I Can't Have You" strips it out and turns it into a beautiful ballad. Brian-Takes a disco based "Love Kills" strips it out and turns it into a beautiful ballad. Adam-Puts out an album, FYE, with a cover art work that challenges some people so much that they refuse to buy the album. Roger-Queen puts out an album, My HOT Space, with a cover that challenges some people so much that they refuse to buy the album. Coincidence or common sensibilities I think they do have a lot of common sensibilities The parallels I often think about have to do with the albums: First album is not very cohesive, but great nonetheless. Second album is more focused, and divided into light and dark sides (I think the second part is more coincidence ). This is where it gets really interesting: Queen - Third album --> BREAKOUT!!! Adam - ??? ...

Of course!! Frankly, the whole TP was weird in a way. IMO Adam usually has an agenda and obviously none of the questions (and there were millions asked) touch on it. As we all know he answered a couple of album related ones, not saying anything new, and then decided to go for several lame ones... after which he disappeared leaving everyone hanging... Too bad I missed my chance to ask what his favorite ice cream was ... Yeah, he didn't even say goodbye :( He must have been called into an urgent meeting to discuss the release of his single next week...

Hmmm. Not to speak for coo. coo. ca. choo.....I think she was just being sarcastic....meaning that seems to be what it takes to be a pop success. Speaking for myself, I think my attempts at humor....admittedly most of it being lame..lol...sometimes get misinterpreted. Maybe it's a Southern thing. Indeed, it is that "bless your heart" thing - folks actually believe we mean it. Seriously though I am amazed that no one has created a special font and called it sarcasm. It would sure come in handy. Sarcasm font -> Been done. Left-leaning italics. :D glennmcanally.com/sarcastic/I will try to get it to work on atop later. Have to go now.
