LOL ;D WGWG's kinda look the same! Someone should shop in that pic of Adam in the blue plaid shirt with the rocker boots and the spiked anime hair then subtitle it "One of these things is not like the other."

LOL ;D WGWG's kinda look the same! That is funny, Kandie! However, I actually think Cook (more Rock) and Scotty (100% throwback country) are different from Kris and Lee. But, ya, American does seem to keep picking the same guy.

I thought the Final Idol show last night was great..It represented all kinds of music, something we no longer hear on radio or see much of on TV. I used to love TV variety shows! Having Beyonce,Gaga,Tony Bennet,Tom Jones,Bono,Gladys Knight, etc. on the same stage was totally awesome. I wish we had all kinds of music on radio instead of the vapid rap with the same 5 talentless singers over and over again. Adam and Saul brought tears to my eyes..seeing them glowing with love for each other just makes the world a better place. I agree about the variety and quality of entertainment. There was something for just about everyone.

Wow! Haley on Regis and Kelly this morning! Incredible! youtu.be/m-KRh1z5j3wcassie, I wonder if you wouldn't mind doing a little critique on this for me, because to my untrained ear, it sounds pretty perfect. Also, how is her technique? Does it look like she has had good training? Don't want that sultry, smokey voice to give out on her.

To me, THAT'S the kind of music she should be singing. She has a great blues voice and instinct. Her runs were creative and musical, and flowed naturally. I am concerned about that sultry voice, tho'. It reminds me of Allisan Iraheta's. Allison always sounded like her voice was hoarse, even when speaking. And, when singing, it sounded like she was pushing thru that almost laryngitis to hit the notes. You know how you sound when your voice is half gone? How you will start to say a word and only breath comes out, so you push more air thru until the voice finally engages? That is very damaging on the vocal cords. When you are losing your voice, you should speak as little as possible. But, when Allison was asked about it, she said her voice has always sounded that way. She has had doctors look at her throat, and it is fine. It is just her anatomy. Sorry I don't know more about that, to know if it is true or not. With Haley, you can hear the breathy start to a note and then the voice activates with almost a little pop. She also was taking frequent breaths and did little to sustain or extend a phrase. That sounds like she is using a lot of breath to push out those notes. But, it could be a stylistic approach as well. She sings, "and it's been the ruin (breath) of many (breath) a poor boy (breath) and God, (breath) I know (breath) I'm one." Or "My father was (breath) a gamblin man (breath) oh down (breath) in New Orleans." And "oh mother tell your children (breath) not to do (breath) what I (breath) have done." Lots of choppy phrases there. However, it seems to work in that arrangement, so..... maybe it is just style and not indicative of her using massive breaths to push out the notes. She does a good transition to a strong head voice at the top. She is not just belting out with a strained chest voice. So, I would say she has probably had some training. My verdict? The voice sounds great for that bluesy style. And she is pitch perfect with great instincts for jazz/blues riffs. Sophisticated for a 20 year old. Is she damaging her voice singing like that long term? I would think so, but I hope I am wrong.

I didn't post the interview, but they asked her when the sultry hoarseness of her voice came out and was she like that as a child. She replied that she is way less "froggy" now then she was as a child. So, to me, that sounds like a good thing, ya? I love Allison but always thought her hoarsness sounded strained. It doesn't sound like that, to me, with Haley. ETA: My bad. Forgot to say, "Thank you, Cassie!"
