I liked Paul McDonald from the gitgo and just found out yesterday that he's from here, Huntsville, AL. He was born here, graduated from high school here and went to Auburn University. I think they're saying on Idol that he's from Nashville, not sure when he moved there.

I like Paul too. But thinking that if he wins, it will be another WGWG. I might not be popular, but I like Jacob Lusk. We'll see how he does in other styles and genres. The blonde who wants to get it on with Steven is really annoying me. I need to see everyone else a little more before I can form an opinion. But there definitely seems to be better talent this year than last year.

Brining this over from the News: SInce I do not follow Idol, can someone please fill me in - from what I understand Durbin is now between the last 24 contestants? And from now on the audience will vote? When Adam was on the show wasn´t there 36 people and then the last 13? I am a bit confused by this voting system. They change it up from year to year. In most seasons, they have picked a top 24 and then audience voting whittles it down week by week to a top 12. I really didn't like the way they did it in Adam's year. They picked a top 36, which they divided into three groups of twelve. Three from each group went through after the viewer vote, and then the judges were going to pick three wild cards to make a top 12, but they decided to add one more wild card and make a top 13. What was unfair about that system was the way only three went through from each group. So if you were a strong singer in a group of strong singers, you might not make it through because there were only three spots open. Conversely, if one group consisted of more than its share of weak singers, a poor singer could get through simply because there wasn't much competition. Of course, there are always going to be unfair aspects to American Idol, so in the end it probably didn't matter. In fact, I know it didn't, because we got Adam that year and that's all that matters! And this year, they are singing in 2 groups, next week. The 12 boys on Tuesday, the 12 girls on Wed. The top 5 from each group goes into the Finals. On results night, Thursday, the judges will also add their wild card choices to make it either a Top 12 or a Top 13. Most are thinking a Top 13 since there are 3 judges, one for each judge.

well, this relates to adam but i thought i'd post it here so as not to clog the news thread with idol stuffs... EW.com's take: tvrecaps.ew.com/recap/american-idol-season-10-episode-12/4/James Durbin's solo was "A Change Is Gonna Come," which Adam Lambert owned on season 9's performance finale. Okay. If this is a contest for Adam Lambert At Full Blast impersonators, James Durbin is the winner. Obviously. He can scream and he can scream in tune. That's probably pretty rare. Most people have probably never even tried that. Who knows how many amazing ALAFB impersonators are out there? But that's my problem with James: It doesn't occur to people to do that because successful songs are usually not purebred-wail. The wailing is already getting old, and we haven't even heard a full song from him yet. He needs to be a thousand bazillion more times selective with his screaming than he has been so far.*** i don't like this guy, and i still wouldn't if adam didn't exist. i don't like his attitude. and he totally ruined ACIGC... it's like he had no idea what he was singing about, he was just using it to show off (badly) and it offended me deeply! LOL! the producers must know that he will be unfavorably compared to adam and that is why they are keeping him. no way he can win, but he creates water cooler discussion and that's good for their tv show. if he doesn't make the top10, i bet they will choose him as one of the wild card/ judges picks. james has all the notes in his arsenal, but he doesn't know how to use it. he has no musicality as far as my ears are concerned.

WGWG = white guy with guitar. Cook, Kris, Lee. There have been too many of those who have won. I'm thinking that AI will be wanting something new. It is up to the voters however (I think). However, Paul has a unique voice so I guess I really wouldn't mind. Kind of a cross between Kenny Loggins and Rod Stewart who I love.
I didn't like James' ACIGC either. I'm reserving judgment until I see what else he can do.

It's not just Slezak either, who is telling him to "just stop!" It's also, Jim Cantiello and Lynsey Parker. The biggest and main Idol bloggers. Also, I might add, that during the season, Jim and Slezak were not the biggest Adam fans. But they have come around. I almost feel sorry for the guy because Adam's fans know he can't compare and will never vote for him. Adam haters will never vote for him either. His only hope, to hang on for a few weeks, is if Vote for the Worst picks him as their first victim. OR. if Debra Byrd (who I love!) sets James straight and just tells him to cut it out! I can't figure out if this guy is a fan of Adam or if he is just trying to use Adam's popularity?

Hey Needacoke...If Paul McDonald makes it to top 10, I wonder if the Alabama voters will rally behind him as one of our own, like with Reuben, Taylor and Bo. I don't know if your Huntsville TV market (do you have a Fox affiliate?) will promote him like Fox 6 in Bham did with the others in the past with lots of hype and promo. I guess we'll have to wait and see. It's too early for me to pick "a favorite". I'll watch it each week..like I have done since day one of Season l, because that is what we Alabamians do, especially when it's not footbal season. lol.
