A label will just throw a single out there without support to appease fans and the artist. It happens. I do think RCA/DMG may have a plan in place this time for Adam. Call me a slow learner, but I do have a lot of hope for whatever is released next.

This probably belongs in the numbers thread, but since you did it first, Q3, I will have to disagree with this. NCOE got crappy radio play! It had about 1/2 the adds that BTIKM got and the only thing that kept it afloat was Boston KISS, Q102, and SIRIUS. It came out in April and barely lasted 2 months. That being said, I think it was the song and not resistance to Adam. I am very optimistic that Cuckoo will get picked up much faster. That's what happens with subsequent singles. Unfortunately, it gets harder for the second single after the first one failed to do well. It gets even harder for single #3. The only artists I can think of who got single #3 to catch on were Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. That's because their record labels where going to MAKE SURE that they had a single that caught on at radio. I'm sorry to say :( that I can't see RCA being successful at doing the same, which has everything to do with how backwards and archaic RCA is and nothing to do with Adam or the quality of his songs! I do not agree with this on a number of points. For starters, there is nothing normal about the single selections or promotion of Trespassing. They seem to have wanted to release the most mainstream and most "acceptable" tracks from Trespassing to recapture WWFM. Perhaps they have decided to let Adam pick single #3 and, if they finally have, I hope Adam fans are ready to request like crazy. Typically a label releases the strongest single at #1 or #2. RCA has not release the best tracks yet. Here are a few more reasons why I disagree.... 1. RCA EVP/Promotion is now Joe Richitellli -- not the same RCA as last year. Adrian Moreira was promoted to SVP/Promotion on May 9, 2012 and is now responsible for Top 40, HAC, Mainstream AC and AAA. I do not think there is a more aggressive or more knowledgeable promo radio team in the world. 2. Adam has done some major promo events for stations that have not played either of the first 2 singles -- like Z100. 3. There are all kinds of weird paths for hit singles -- you mentioned a couple but there are so many more. A few of my favs.... Gaga --- Even after Just Dance finally hit #1 in the US, radio was not gaga for Gaga -- Poker Face was #1 in the US 4 months after it was #1 in Canada. Which caused them to not even release "Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" as a radio single in North America. Maroon 5 -- just had a #1 hit with single #4 Moves Like Jagger -- it was preceded by a Misery #14, GALM #86, and NGLTB #55. Fun had 5 singles that did not chart and was on #6 when WAY appeared in a Superbowl commercial -- ending up #1. Most of my fav artists never get a hit in the US -- or struggle -- like Muse. Peak single in US is Uprising at #39. But here is my favorite odd US single hit -- from one of my fav bands: Queen --- Bohemian Rhapsody took 16 years to peak at #2. (#9-1976, #2-1992) because of Wayne's World. I think BoRhap should get an honorary #1. >> It is usually hard to predict hits and what will connect with people. But sometimes, anyone can pick some hits -- like Party Rock Anthem. |

Doubt Adam would agree to that, cause he knows without strong support from RCA after 2 failed ones, might as well not release anything new at all! Who needs a failed 3rd single??? and I doubt all of sudden RCA decided to appease us fan 'cuz if that's the case, they would've released Cuckoo as 2nd single. |
