I've often wondered who the collaboration that Adam was crossing his fingers for was with... I hope someday he answers all the questions he can't answer now.

Mariah Carey has announced her new single. I honestly can't recall the last time she released a single. (I'm not being bitchy here. I honestly can't recall). But anyway, in keeping with the current trends in pop music, Mariah's single will be laced with rap. Her singing will be supported by not one rapper but two: Rick Ross and Meek Mill. God, I wish Adam had just one little rapper lending support. I know. I have never understood if this was a deliberate strategy or if the homophobia in the rapping community was a part, or if the "Idol stigma" was a factor. At first, I was glad that AL didn't "pander" (a word from a positive review I'm swiping) to the current rent-a-rapper music scene and that the music was too sophisticated for that. That formula has been around for a very long time and I'm always hoping for something new and revolutionary on the pop scene (or maybe it all just sounds like crap to me cuz I'm getting old : and I'm generationally wired to hate the current pop trends). But the closest thing we have to rapping is Sam Sparro (and every review I've seen attributes the vocals to Nile Rogers, who only contributed the guitar). I guess they brought in Brian London to add a bit of rap into the live shows, but it really is half-hearted. Since I don't like rap at all, I am really very glad that Adam does not have a rap duet on Trespassing! But to each his own ...

Here's an interview that shows his musical background. www.korg.co.uk/artists/BrianLondon.asp

I guess I was thinking about the part that he adds to the show in the intros. But you're right. I is more R&B, but hip-hop certainly borrowed from that "shout out" stuff in R&B. ETA: That's what I meant by half-hearted. Pharell isn't rap, either. But these people add street cred to what some people thought of as "the theater kid." Ok, I'm gonna shuddup now before I get myself in trouble.
