Well Adam has said that acting is not his strongest skill, so based on just that I'd guess he'd chose a role that spoke to him. Not to mention the relentless press that would be so judgmental. It would have to be a great role imo. Regardless, if I had to bet I would put ALL my money on him not being interested in a part in a straight romantic comedy. Maybe some variation on a Will & Grace type thing if it HAD to involve a close connection with a woman it'd be a BFF. Or the reverse of When Harry Met Sally which is only vaguely in my mind but picturing him in the restaurant when she faked the orgasm is LMAO. Adam would be good in comedy, I think, and that's pretty hard but he seems to have a gift for it. He'd be sweet in a Sleepless in Seattle type of deal, with a kid as the focus but I can not under any circumstances see the love interest being a woman at this time. I just don't think he'd feel it something he'd relate to and he HAS said he's not going to even put songs on his album that he doesn't feel. I mean, maybe a NPH who has been faking it his whole life finds it easy to just keep on, but most gay men I know are like the guy who called into WWHL :
I'm picturing him laughing during the Details photoshoot and imagining that on a movie set. Um, no. [/IMG] It's not even about skillz it's more about wanting to be bothered for several months forcing yourself to display and sell something you're not even REMOTELY interested in.
swarm - this is the first time I vehemently disagree with you and I will go further to state that you are expressing YOUR OWN feeling towards acting as an interest with a woman. I have no idea what Adam would feel, but the point about ACTING IS ACTING. It is not being yourself. That's what great actors do. They mostly do not play themselves... From watching a few bits of Adam's acting - I agree that he is not a great actor. He knows that thank god. I hope to see him on the big screen, but IMO - he needs to sing, anything else would be a bonus - hopefully - but it would be taking a great risk IMO.... I do agree that he looked extremely uncomfortable and not sexy at all in the Details shoot. If that is any indication of his abilities - he should not even try... I can;t wait to see his appearance in LL this fall - may be I'll change my mind re his acting skills. ;D
LOL actually I thought the Details shoot (after they took the shot and he laughed) was a riot! I totally get that it's "acting". I just don't think it would be any fun for him at all or of interest. But you're right. I'm projecting. Since we've never actually met. hahaha. I'm not saying he's totally "purist". He sang the coupla Queen songs about women with the same gusto as any other song. I just think for an acting gig he'd want it to be special. I think we agree pretty much, too.

If a straight man can play gay man in a film, why can't a gay man play a straight man? I think Adam is sexy and fascinating and loveable -- and would love to see him on the "big screen" in almost any role!! Hmmm.. he could and be great in that for big audiance. Not for me though since I would know so vividly it is wrong. AND he has said he wants to be himself, so playing a romatic role would feel somehow false to me even with a man, even though better than with a woman. Conlusion: I just want him to sing and present the mood of the song and his own state of mind . How could it be wrong? It is called acting. Do you believe that every actor plays a part that is true to their real life? His kiss with the gal on that video is very convincing to me. It is mega romantic. And it was acting. And that Details shoot was real enough to turn me on. heh.

This is OTT but thought people might find it interesting re different ways of handling changes to music industry models outside of the labels: www.fastcompany.com/1844437/songs-music-publisher-new-york"Digital media threw record labels and the surrounding industries into chaos. But Matt Pincus, CEO of Songs, a music publishing firm specializing in web-driven business models, is uniquely suited to handle chaos."

Avoid using YOU statements and telling others what they should think or feel. Keep it to a lively debate of IDEAS and POSSIBILITIES, stated as such. Thanks.

It is acting!! And once again, there are actors right now playing straight men that are really gay and closeted! You accept them because you don't know! [/IMG]
I didn't say that. I said he would not enjoy it. And I don't think he'd take a role that he felt not fully able to embrace. Actors don't just show up and act. They spend tons of time researching the character, getting motivation etc. YUCK for a gay man to have to do that when he's not the LEAST bit interested. Yes JMHO. :D

I think Adam likes a challenge and being able to do something people are saying NO you shouldn't or couldn't do. Adam says what he does is give his audience an illusion...an escape from everyday life for a short time. So if he wants to be a leading man and do a romantic comedy or something with a woman...why not. Why should being gay keep him from taking the same opportunity as a straight guy to play this role. If he felt it would be fun...I say go for it. Acting is just that...acting. And Adam said he thinks women are beautiful...so I think he could just have a good time and enjoy himself in the role.

Wow, I think you do Adam a great disservice by assuming what Adam wouldn't do. What makes you think Adam wouldn't "remotely be interested in " doing an acting role? He has said it is something he would be interested in. And NPH has been faking his whole career? It's called ACTING. I've worked in theater all my life and know many gay actors and I can guarantee you they would find a remark like that insulting. And I know NPH and his partner and they are beautiful, grounded people.
This is what we're doing here, right? Hypothesizing on what Adam might do or not. I totally suggest you ask your male gay actor friends how much FUN it is playing a str8 love interest and if they'd expect Adam to chose that as his FIRST MOVIE ROLE! How may people are going to CAPSLOCK ME "IT'S CALLED ACTING". Maybe wanna re-read what I actually SAID LOL. No shade, I'm going to assume we have some non native language speakers here getting up in arms. Since I'm vegan, I am not remotely interested in acting in a movie about hunting UNLESS I NEED TO PAY THE BILLS. sigh. LOL on the gay blogs, I am anything but ~controversial. Stop by some time for more shocks!

I don't think a person's sexual orientation has anything to do with whether or not he or she can be a successful actor. I imagine a true actor relishes playing a person who is not at all like himself, which is the challenge in the art. The key is to find in each character the humanity that we can relate to, whether that character is sympathetic or repulsive. Without the nuances and that honest core of emotions all characters would be one dimensional and uninteresting.
I don't think Adam is a good enough actor to take on a complex or major role-- yet. If he wants it he will go after it and learn what he needs to know to succeed. But-- singing is his passion. He has said singing is like breathing to him-- essential for his life. He hasn't said that about anything else, including acting. That doesn't mean he won't develop a passion, eventually.
I don't want to limit Adam (in my mind) and I believe he does not want to limit himself. He's open and idealistic and brave and isn't afraid to shake things up and reach for the stars.
