I think the future is bright for Adam. But I am a realist.
My response to this post may sound negative but I am anything but negative. IMO Adam can do whatever he wants and I sure hope he does not take advice from me or any other fans. (except for where to get great sushi in Tokyo.)
I love Trespassing, I think Adam is doing a brilliant job of building his personal brand and a global platform for a long-term career. And, most important to me, he is remaining true to himself as a person and as an artist.
Oh dear, I am all excited about this movie prematurely as it is in the early rumor stage. I don't think it matters if Steve Strange is hugely famous. I picture this being an artistic movie and they are often about more obscure off beat people.
I am sorry but I want Adam to focus on his music now and do whatever it takes to make No acting now please.
On the goals of making "Trespassing a Grammy winner, and a gold then platinum certificate."
There really is no way to "make" music a "Grammy" winner. Adam is in the most competitive genre. With the new categories, it will be harder for Trespassing to get a Grammy nomination than it was for FYE/WWFM. There is no longer a Male Pop Vocalist category.
Here are the categories that Adam seems likely to be on the nomination ballot for and my eval of his chances:
Record Of The Year - longshot
Album Of The Year - longshot
Song Of The Year - longshot
POP FIELD (NO male and female pop vocal awards anymore)
Best Pop Solo Performance
Best Pop Vocal Album - BEST BET IMO DANCE/ELECTRONICA FIELDBest Dance Recording - if a song gets a #1-#2 Dance/Club chart ranks + Top 40 hit

It is unlikely that Trespassing will become RIAA Gold, forget about Platinum. Trespassing would need to triple weekly sales for over two years to go Gold. I can't find history for a similar case of a follow-up album. (Adam has a Gold, almost Platinum album for his last album. He is not unknown and unpromoted.) He probably has to wait for Album #3 or #4.
Trespassing will continue to sell, and if it does 1,000 units a week, it will be Gold in 6 years.
IF Adam gets a major hit from this album, it will generate track sales, not album sales. IF he has two or three monster hits, it could happen.
****** It is not all about Album sales. It is about generating revenue and profits. There are many ways to make money, and Adam's long-term prospects are good. ******
If you want to dream big, the best thing that could happen for Trespassing is for a song Adam co-wrote to be used in a major ad campaign in the US. Short of that, it is just a matter of promoting the album, touring and maybe getting a hit single or two.
If you want to wish for the possible, hope they pick a single that gets a ton of airplay and sells.
Finally, (minority view in Adam fandom) I do not believe that if Adam got the Idol judge's gig that Trespassing would start selling at a high rate. He still will need a couple of hit singles to move the album.
Why do I think this --- because it never happened before. Jennifer Lopez. 2 years of Idol, a #3 hit, and over a year after release, her album "Love?" sold a total of 334,000 copies (US). Steven Tyler had a modest hit with the non-album single "(It) Feels So Good" which sold around 200,000 units. And they are the two most successful Idol judges as recording artists during their tenure.
Judges singlesPaula + Randy (2008) "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" peak #62.
Paula (2009) "I'm Just Here for the Music" peak #87
No releases as a recording artist: Simon, Ellen and Kara.
Kara was a featured vocalist on a Kelly Clarkson album bonus track in 2011.
