The Idol thing - I'm getting really confused about what was said by whom and when it was said. I'd love to have a timeline laid out with everything that happened pertinent to Adam including all of his quotes. Then maybe I could make an intelligent guess as to his chances. As I said pages ago the remark that he hasn't been contacted yet (if this interview was recent) is the thing that kind of squashed it for me. Several others were "flown to LA for talks" and he hasn't been "contacted yet"? Just doesn't sound positive.

Yet I'm surprised that he would continue to be so open about how much he'd love the job if he didn't think he was being considered seriously. Being public about how he much wants it & then to have never even been approached puts him in a vulnerable position imo. Can't see him doing that.

Bottom line - I'm confused and need a MAP and a GPS.

ETA: Just listened to that part of the interview again and he says "IF I was asked..." I really don't think he'd say that if his management was in talks with Idol.

What changed?

1) radio

2) A couple of years ago, being a judge probably didn't seem like a likely possibility. This time he was actually approached.

3) There is no ongoing tour scheduled (and a successful sold-out one) that would have to be cancelled / changed

4) In 2010 the new judges were stepping into the Simon and Paula shoes and constant comparisons required a team with seniority. Now the discussion is that the idol panel is compared to Voice and X-Factor and the comparison to previous judges is one that nobody wants to even make, because everybody expects that it is going to get better.

5) Adam has performed on the international stage (both with own tour and with Queen), Grammy nomination has happened and he has a second album and tons of other accolades.

6) Fox is in the driver seat and it is now all about the ratings. In 2010 it was about filling the void and separating AI from Simon.

JazzRocks, I think I need a timeline, too. The answer, "I haven't been asked," (or "I was never approached" or whatever it was) is what squashes the whole thing for me. There are lots of ways to be vague, I don't think he would imply that they were never in contact if talks had happened.

Seriously, I don't know how I went from "cool rumor" to "I think he has it" to "I think it's off the table and it might never have been on" in the course of just few weeks.

I wanted Idol so bad for him because the alternative just seems like more frustration and struggle and, possibly, the end of the era. I s we will know soon enough.

Eta---I am totally not surprised that Adam would continue to put out there how much he wants this. He is pretty fierce and isn't afraid to take that chance. Remember his response to that fake MTV twitter acct. about performing at the VMAs? Or how he was so excited about a possible collaboration for Trespassing? He puts it out there.

There WILL be something, the calendar is not as blank as we see. Adam's confirmed that he will work on some "stuff" in September, he just denied to call it a job. As the "stuff" needs to be kept in secret now, we can't see it in his calendar yet. So I stay positive, Idol or not. I am just unable to think of anything else other than Idol. TV appearances, concerts, music video are never secrets. What can that "stuff" be????
