Nica, she is one of the biggest Pop diva icons of all time. She has/had an amazing voice! She is up there with Whitney and Celine, voice wise.

I don't think I know how Celine Dion sounds either, but I know she had/has? a show in Vegas - remember seeing huge ads there - that's how I know the name. (never heard of Mariah until Adam came along)... I heard Whitney in movies, and I do appreciate her voice.
I guess if Adam gets to be on AI and Mariah will be singing to promote her music - I will get to "know" her

May be the fact that she is a diva will add to some fun - watching how other judges and Ryan can handle her.., Adam will have no problem - that I am sure of.

Back to my question: is it possible that the announcement will be next week?

I don't think he lied. I think he just was thinking in general terms. Kind of like Adam's sense of time. Also, we pretty much knew they would not announce during the Olympics and that was more than 2 weeks from Mariah's announcement.

I also read somewhere about the "2 weeks" thing. When Adam said the new single would be announced "soon, in a week or so", I found it fit perfectly with the "2 weeks" timeline. I was expecting to hear about the idol or single last week. Then some one said that "no news during the Olympics as no one would pay attention to news then". At the same time Adam said that he couldn't announce the single because of the unfinished artwork. Let see if anything happens this week.

But isn't it weird that Adam couldn't announce the single before he went to Japan. Isn't it a waste of a trip that he is there in Japan, he knows what the new single is but he can't officially promote it. I don't believe the delay of the announcement is because of the artwork. If he still has to delay the announcement, he will not be able to promote it while in Oz, either.
