I agree. I don't know that BTIKM would have jumped out as a "radio single," but the vocal is amazing and it's a complex, mature song. BTW I HATE the term "radio friendly" and think it is laden w/BS and intangibles that no one can pinpoint. I actually think radio is victim to the whims of Clear Channel corporate and they can make or break anyone they want to ... or at least give them a fighting chance. This is why I'm on "Trespassing" bandwagon: I think the song is thematically and stylistically different enough to grab people's attention. Everyone keeps going along the MO of "fitting in," where I think Adam's strength lies in busting down doors. I agree with everything you said. I think RCA picked a song they thought would fit in or was radio friendly, but that made it not stand out enough. I hope and think they will have better luck with something unique that doesn't fit in because it doesn't sound like so much of what is being played. I think Somebody I Used to Know is an example of a smash that sounded unique. This is the reason I think Shady could be a smash. I absolutely agree with this too.

Uh, as we are talking about singles, can I continue my train of thought about this topic I had the other day. Scroll if you want. OK, my Idol hope has already slept. Now I am thinking about radio play because the new single is coming soon. I don't have a lot a experience with radio, and I am not good with words, so I use notations. S = aX + bY + cZ +dT where: - S = number of radio spin (weekly I guess)
- X = Sales and streaming ranking
- Y = Hit predictor/popularity index (based on previous songs) Artists like Katy Perry for example, may have very high index here. Even though the sales of a new single may not show up yet, radio stations are still willing to spin her new song.
- Z = Rating by the Program Director (How good the song is, how likeable the artist is, and other "political" ratings). This explains why Bieber's Boyfriend didn't do well on the radio even though it had good sales. I think the PD thought the song sucked. So their score for Z is significantly low which dragged the S score down.
- T = Requests by listeners
- a, b, c, d = weight of Z, Y, Z, T respectively where d is very low, I guess 5% only.
From here we will see - If we have taken everything WE KNOW into account yet? - Where the next single may stand? - What can we do to support? Does that make sense to you? I want to elaborate more, but I need to go now Let's look at each factor as related to BTIKM, NCOE, and the new single. - X which is sales:
- BTIM has the best score on this because at that time it was the only new music from Adam after almost 2 years waiting. we rushed out to buy it. Did it have 34K unit sales on the debut week? However, it didn't chart. To the radio, it was not good enough. - NCOE has lower score b/c it sold less, 29K on the debut week as far as I can remember. - Now I think the third single will have even lower score than NCOE. The reason is all the fans already have it. Eventhough many of us try to buy multiple copies again to help it, I think it's very hard to reach NCOE sales level UNLESS the new single can resonate with many new fans. I hope the label has some very good strategy here to expose it to a much larger audience. My wish is it can go viral like the Gotye song.
- Y: Hit predictor/score (I don't know what to call it)
- BTIKM has higher score here because WWFM and IIHY were quite successful. IIHY might not be a hit, but close. So people can look at it as there's a possibility that BTIKM can be a hit. - However this score is lower for NCOE because BTIKM was not a hit - Now the third single will even have lower score because NCOE and BTIKM were not hits.
- Z: PD rating:
- Song rating:
- BTIKM may not have high score. This is my guess basing on complains from fans that this is not a strong song. - NCOE has higher score than BTIKM here. at least it was what some of the PDs picked it, that indicates they liked it. Some of the non fans also expressed that they liked the song. - The 3rd single: assuming that it is Trespassing, do you think it will have higher score than NCOE. What if it is Cuckoo? You tell me please.
- In terms of "how likeable is the artist:: I've got a feeling that the PDs and DJs like Adam except those who have problem with his sexuality
- T: Request: this is something we can do, and we need to work harder. Sometimes we thought that only glamberts made radio requests. But some people reported the DJs told them other fan groups made a lot more requests than us.
In summary, the scores for the new single will look like - Sales: Lowest score (compared to BTIKM and NCOE)
- Hit score: Lowest
- PD rating: ??? you tell me where this score maybe
- Request: the same
When you add these up, you can see the Spin score for the 3rd single could be the lowest among these 3 songs. <- AlarmRequest is where only fans can do. Sales is where both the labels and fans can do. The labels helps with the promotion and marketing plans to expose the song to a larger audience. I really hope the label do something special to promote this song. Any brilliant idea for fans to help with the sales?

I was JUST thinking that about BTIKM. It took me a while to stop skipping it cause I was so obsessed with the new songs but I really think it fits on the album, sounds so much like Adam and I totally understand why they picked it for a single. It is easy to have 20/20 hindsight and for us all to blame RCA for stuff but, gosh darn it, all these songs should have gotten attention. I agree. I don't know that BTIKM would have jumped out as a "radio single," but the vocal is amazing and it's a complex, mature song. BTW I HATE the term "radio friendly" and think it is laden w/BS and intangibles that no one can pinpoint. Adam has said many times that this is NOT what the song is about! It's about stripping away the B.S., i.e,., the emotional barriers. LO, yes. That is his family friendly explanation. Live, he is telling people to take something off. "Take it off, try me on" is pretty damn sexy in my book!! I don't think it will ever be a single. Ha...I always take his family friendly explanation with a wink and a nod. The song is sexual - no doubt about it. Tell me how many radio listeners are going to say oh yeah that song is about stripping emotionally. None. Hell, I know he said that and I still don't believe it. BTW-I sure didn't hear very many BTIKM lovers when RCA released it. Suddenly everyone loves it? I hope Trespassing is the next single. 8-)

I have no idea what this is. How could Trespassing have the lowest sales when it hasn't been released yet? [/IMG] In summary, the scores for the new single will look like
Sales: Lowest score (compared to BTIKM and NCOE)
Hit score: Lowest
PD rating: ??? you tell me where this score maybe
Request: the sameIf you are referring to this: The song isn't going to become a hit due to the Glamberts. If it becmes a hit and a big seller it will be because radio put it in high rotation and new fans bought it. Just like WWFM. That came out with the album. And IIHY didn't sell 900K to Glamberts either. We all already had it. It was the spins in big markets, like Z100's that got it the jumpstart. All, Trespassing needs is a big station like Z to jump on board, or a ton of smaller stations (yes, that can work too.) If we use your reasoning, there's no sense in releasing anymore new singles because his fans already have them. :-/

HolstIn this interview there is a question: If you could be a vampire or a werewolf in a movie, what would you be and why? Idk if that was what you were looking for. ETA Also, I have a vague recollection of him maybe saying he could play a vampire in the Capital FM UK chat, but that interview is no longer available on Youtube... Thanks so much for looking. I didn't remember this interview. The one I'm thinking of was much more recent--like in the last few weeks, maybe. I've done some searching, but I can't find it. Seems like even the Capital FM would have been longer ago. Perhaps I'm hallucinating. But much thanks--it's always nice to watch an old interview.

[/IMG]
You should have read the parts above it. I explained there already. It's because fans already have the song. BTIKM and NCOE was released before the CD was dropped. We didn't have them. So if there isn't any special plans from fans and the label, I bet the new single will have the lowest sales compared to BTIKM and NCOE.

It's sustained sales and radio play will do that. BTW, Boyfriend charted quite well, for the Beibs
