OK, here comes my past Idol experience. Between the arena rounds and the judges rounds, there are producer rounds. I had been thinking those were already done. But, "Duh!" if Nigel hasn't been signed, of course, they weren't done. The producer rounds have to come before the judges rounds. Now, in the past, very few times, they have done the producer rounds and judges rounds at the same time. One I know about, for sure, is Las Vegas, Season 5. It requires 3 days, instead of just 2. My thinking is they will do this for all 7 cities: Charlotte, Newark(NYC), Los Angeles, San Antonio, OK City, Chicago, New Orleans. If they are going to need 3 days for each city, I don't see how they can start later than next week. I don't. Maybe announcement for judges on Tuesday and they start in LA next week? 7 cities, 3 days each, that means 21 days in total. If they start on Sept 14, work 5 days a week, this audition will go until Oct 13 inclusive, if they include traveling time between cities in these 3 days, if not it can be longer. Adam's got a concert in Melbourne on Oct 13, taking into account the time difference, Adam will have to leave the US on Oct 11 at the latest. So he will be missing some judges audition days, if he is on Idol, is that a big deal for Idol? That's why I said they need to start next week.

Maybe the reason Adam is sleepless in LA is that he knows they are facing a mighty tight timeline, and he has a concert promised.

Believe in what? What makes you believe? Tell me so I can believe with you. I believe that Adam will get an offer to be an Idol judge. The rational side of me puts the odds at 50:50. My heart says, "I believe". I'm #teamIbelieve

Pretty sure in the past there were times not all the judges were there for every audition.

Nigel did not have a contract but he was working for Core/FOX the whole time. There apparently were interim agreements. And Idol is a big operation and they have more than one producer and many talent scouts working for months to pick the contestants. -- Here is an excerpt from a great piece about Idol judging by Richard Rushfield: In fact, it is a brutal winnowing done first by scouts—who vary in background, celebutante DJ Samantha Ronson served this role in this season’s L.A. auditions, for instance—then by producers, who pull the best and worst from the masses in the stadiums. The contestants, who have been told to prepare two songs, are brought in four at a time to sing for the first time. They usually get through about eight bars before they are stopped. Occasionally, the scouts will ask for a bit of their second song. If the contestant makes it through, a rarity, they go on to the next round: the producers.
The producers’ round happens days, sometimes weeks, after the stadium event, often requiring those who traveled from far off to return to their audition city on their own dime. Here, the producers prod, searching for the hidden wellsprings of talent and telling those contestants who make it through which song to sing before the judges. Of course, some of these people are a) crazy b) awful singers c) both.
Having gone through the scouts and the producers, and traveled three times to do so, when the contestants ultimately are to appear before the judges on camera, a producer announces to the assembled: “Some of you are here because you are really good. Some of you are here because you are really bad.” www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2010/01/19/secret-rituals-of-american-idol-auditions-exposed.html?cid=hp:topnav:sxybAdd the third round are the people who the Celebrity Judges and the Executive Producer (Nigel) see. So I can't imagine that they will have any trouble getting the celebrity judge footage done by the second week of October -- even if they announce the judges in mid-Sept.

This may go well with the earlier discussion:
