Here is the WinStar quote --- "I'm coming back to this part of the country, there is more to come!" Texas Tango is in Grand Prairie, 84 miles from WinStar. I am too rational to think that this was a reference to Idol auditions when we now know that he has a concert in Dallas Country. I am putting this in the same column as the TMZ clue -- looked like one thing, turned out to be something else. Yeah, no. I agree with mys*&@^#r (ETA and Cassie - sorry, we cross-posted). I doubt radio show would have their acts booked in July for a fall show and Adam would even have it on his radar. And like he'd be giddy about a radio show where he does 3 to 4 songs four of five months from then? Really? And I also don't agree the TMZ clue turned out to be something else. They pulled the story (or postponed it). They didn't have anything else in it's place and it wasn't that Jermaine one. That had nothing to do with their tease.

Q3, are you thinking the Randy TMZ story has to do with their clue about a big Idol Comeback?! Huh? How does that fit Randy, who never left, and is still not leaving! And the Jermaine story was not on their show that night. It was only in print. There was no Idol story the night they promised it.

Catching up with couple of days of thread and here are my thoughts: a) We are clearly finally on the home stretch. The latest TMZ report is again planted, does not contain Enrique anymore, finally publicly states what we all knew, that Randy is out (and who said it yesterday that you publish news you want to downplay on the Friday before a holiday - lol), everything lines up for the "surprise announcement" and it looks like there is a good chance that they actually are making Adam that surprise announcement. WOW! #teamIbelieve b) Contrary to what I read the last few days here, I think that Nigel is good news for Adam, not bad. Where does that doubt come from about him? Just like Simon, Nigel can have a poker face at times or respond with political agenda, as needed, at the Exec. Producer level that is part of the job. Nigel gave Adam his first live performance after the AMA, when everybody was quacking that Adam is too risky for live TV. Nigel knows bs when he sees it. Beyond that one event. Nigel likes drama and controversy and exciting TV. He brought via his work in both dance and music a hell of a lot of different forms of gay American art into mainstream living rooms across America (without talking it up as such) and he appreciates professionalism. So, you tell me what he thinks about Adam. Does he need to run around with a Glambert flag in hand, so we think of him in Adam's corner? Really? He is a professional. All is well there, imo. Except that he may have personally held up the show with his own contract situation, otherwise, I see now downside for Adam in any shape or form. c) I am still a bit mystified why Enrique stayed in the picture as token candidate for so long and obviously played along by being quiet about it. It cannot be in his interest to be that Latin token candidate. Even if he can clearly say that he was not interested in judging on AI, thereby making it his choice rather than a rejection by AI, but still he is not gaining from this story, imo. And the comparison with Adam who would then step into "his" slot 4, is not doing anything for him either. So I am puzzled about that. I can see why idol producers would be comparing Enrique vs Adam with more seriousness. One of the major concerns Idol must have had given the declining numbers, was whether their broadcast reach in the international market could be maintained. I would not be surprised, if after the snoozefest of the last three years (Simon's last + two JLo/ST) there was some concern expressed from oversees about that. Now which candidate on the panel would make more oversees regions wanting to continue receiving American Idol? Enrique or Adam? If you ask me, the answer would interestingly be Adam and not Enrique. Finally: d) Has there been any announcement regarding Jimmy Iovine's role? I have not heard or read a word yet, and if he decided to leave, I would have also expected that to be a Friday before Labor Day announcement. So, I am happily going into this long weekend and having a smile on my face just like Adam. It's been quite a ride and the homestretch is ahead and will show us all whether we are right or not. Something is up and Adam is clearly happy about it. I had another thought on the Enrique/private life issue (if it is a true concern of his and not manufactured) If there are any bi-skeletons in his closet, that could come out with a high profile judge position on Idol. Worth good money for a tongue waggling ex fling. Given the cultural bias with respect to that, he could be cautious about an exposure that might hurt his fine career. Interesting thought. I love your post too, Craazy!! ITA. And man, I am out of the loop! I think I've been holding Enrique in arrested development as a teen idol. Someone linked me to an article earlier that said he was 37!! :dunno: I thought he was supposed to be "young one."

The WinStar comment makes more sense to me that he was referring to a Dallas area concert that fans could attend, rather than an Idol event where (if he gets a judge spot) he would be on a closed set and fans could not attend.
Setting that aside -- I really question the concept that Adam has had an Idol slot since June or July, and it is a secret. The proof for this....
1. Adam was super happy at Fantasy Springs.
2. The WinStar quote. NOTE: Adam never mentioned IDOL or even hinted it was related to Idol.
3. What else?
The other option is that Adam is telling the truth when he Tweeted and told reporters that he doesn't know. That it is a possibility. This makes more sense to me. The proof that Adam is being considered and does not know:
1. It is consistent with all the press rumors. There is not one press rumor that Adam is singed.
2. The press reports were that Adam was in negotiation with Idol in late July. (Around the same time as the WinStar concert.) These rumors were in the UK and appear to have come from Adam's PR people.
3. Adam said in 3 recent interviews and on Twitter -- he does not know yet but it is a possibility.
4. SH is well connected to FOX, Idol and to Nigel -- why would she put Enrique on the list of 4 judges if they had picked Adam?
>> I think it is possible that Adam may get an offer to be an Idol judge but see no evidence that it is a done deal. For me, I will believe it when Adam says it or Kevin Reilly says it.

IDK, I am more convinced then ever that ALL these articles are deliberately timed and have nothing to do with the actual chronology of events. I think the Randy decision was made probably before the Mariah signing and his cut of that was his golden parachute. (I bet the decision was likely made before JLo and Steven were even given their walking papers.)
I don't believe Nigel just signed either. That news was "carefully timed" as well. I think they are trying to get mileage out of the Coke/Pepsi debate, which benefits both companies and Nicki. The AdAge article had a direct quote from a Pepsi official (and I consider it a reputable source), so I think any more noise on that is deliberately placed hype at this point.
Also, TMZ is a Fox show and Murdoch owns the NY Post, so it's all a bunch of interconnected circles here, with well-timed clues to lead people wherever they want them to go in the moment.

Worth good money for a tongue waggling ex fling. Given the cultural bias with respect to that, he could be cautious about an exposure that might hurt his fine career. That makes perfect sense. Did not think about this one. It's like the Jonny Carson. "I am a private person." And that would mean he would not be interested in this position, because it obviously entails crazy public scrutiny. I believe that every person deserves the right to make their own decision how to structure their life, private as well as public and it is a shame that famous people end up in the cross fire of speculation that means that their naturally preferred boundaries between public and private end up not being the actual ones. Of course Adam had that happen to him on idol, and he decided to rather embrace than fight the situation, but even for him this was not an easy path to navigate both during the show and in the weeks that followed up to the RS magazine article and then again, once perceptions and demands were placed on him from the outside (OUT mag, AMA aftermath, etc). So, remains the question why Enrique did not nip that rumor in the butt straight away instead of letting it go til now? There seems no benefit in it for him? If though what many of us here are suspecting is true, it does mean also that idol had the choice between out and not. Adam being the more current candidate again, I guess.

Still optimistic! However, I do think Adam probably knew about the Dallas concert mid-summer. This isn't just a small in-studio thing. It's at the Verizon Center, right? An arena radio concert. These things are scheduled months ahead of time.

RANDY TRAVIS??? Even BEFORE his meltdown is a WTF! Makes me question this entire thing.
Yeah, I call "BS" on this article! The show is just making up the Mariah and Nicki feud. They are friends and have worked together in the past. I could see Mariah not wanting another woman on the panel, though, especially someone like Nicki who demands attention. Jlo made 13 million dollars in 13 concerts! Enrique is co-headlining with her and they have sold out all their North American dates including four in Canada, where the seating capacities are at 20,000. My thinking is that it is going to take way more money than they are paying Keith and maybe even Minaj to get Enrique to come on board. If he can co-headline and make this kind of money, and get the hot collabs and top 10 hits, why would he do Idol? He's already current, popular and radio is playing his songs. What's the point?

Even though there was no confirmation, he was happy because there was possibility, especially when he saw his promotion plan for the last half of the year mapping around it. He couldn't hide his excitement even though it wasn't confirmed yet. He kept quiet about it at first, but he eventually got tired of the delays and uncertainty, he told the press about the real situation when being asked.
