Yes, tigerlily! Absolutely agree! The layers of Adam backing Adam are special! Hi all, delurking a moment to say NOTHING is better than Adam backing Adam IMHO, and one of the things I love about the album and/or backing tracks. Yes I know back-up singers give him more flex to add-lib... just saying:-) |

WOW I am utterly amazed at the lack of flailing and posting after Adam's announcement! I expected pages and pages of stuff immediately and that is not happening! I am thinking that perhaps Idol has it right in waiting until the DNC is done with. Perhaps this would have been better dropped during the RNC? Even twitter is pretty quiet....surprised...

It's a whistle note, and that's her trademark- kind of like Adam's high notes. Mariah isn't the talent that Adam is bumping up against. She sold her 200 million albums before Adam ever released his first album. Adam is bumping up against the teen pop stars, UK crossovers and diva pop girls at this moment. His competition on the Pop charts isn't Mariah Carey. I meant the talent he is bumping up against for the judges spot  And, whistle note smitstle note I've never liked her all that much and for me it's evident that some things don't change. Maybe someone can tell me if a whistle note is a musical note....don't know. My opinion, only. But, when I hear that whistle note, that whistle "register" it is like fingernails on chalkboard or biting down on aluminum foil with a tooth with a filling. I just cringe. Is it a musical note? It has pitch, certainly. In the same way that the test signal for the emergency broadcast system has pitch. I can tell you what the note is, but I don't consider it musical any more than the squeal of brakes is musical to my ear. Yes, it is her trademark, but to me it is a trick, it is not singing. Adam is known for his high notes, but they are SUNG, with resonance, depth, emotion, and for a purpose in the interpretation of the song. YMMV |
