He didn't compose the music or the arrangement of the music, Pharrell did. Tigerlilly you are posting this as a fact but there is no way of knowing who wrote what. You could also assume for example that in shady he couldn't have written Nile's part but the video that Nile posted with Adam directing an idea is proof of the opposite. Sorry if I'm repeating someone else's comment. I'm still reading page 8. Adam isn't a composer. He doesn't play musical instruments, read music or write music. That doesn't mean Adam doesn't have basic knowledge and can sightread for vocal parts or that he doesn't contribute to the creative process. Adam explained the song writing process for TSP on several occasions and explained that the music was already there (the melody and general song was there) and the group of writers would listen to the music and start throwing out ideas for themes depending on how the music made them feel. Now, TSP could have been different, but with Pharrell being the producer and a composer- I'm sure he did a great deal of the actual composing and I'm also sure Adam contributed in any way possible. Either way, we have no idea who wanted this radio edit of TSP. It could very well be Adam, he does love a song with a lot of production. Maybe it was Adam who wanted to add some bells and whistles to Pharrell's basic production. Who knows? :D

Maybe it was Adam who wanted to add some bells and whistles to Pharrell's basic production. Who knows? :D Adam does "play" an instrument -- his voice. He's mentioned that in interviews. And you don't need to read music to write a melody -- you can simply play it (or, in Adam's case, sing it) into a recording device. I don't remember Adam saying that the melodies were all written before he got to the studio. What he said was that they would start with a beat or someone would sit down at a keyboard and start playing chords, and then when something sounded good, they (Adam and the other co-writers) would build on it. Finally, Adam does have composer credit (not just lyricist credit) on many of the songs on Trespassing, including the title song (page down for detailed list of credits): adamtopia.com/index.cgi?board=adam2&action=display&thread=855ETA: Just one example of a great songwriter who could not read music: John Lennon.

The interviews I saw Adam explained that they would start with a beat and a chord progression. That is nowhere near a completed song. If you haven't seen it before, watch what songs can be composed using a basic 4 chord progression. Adam has said that he and the collaborators then sing improvisations and come up with a melody they like, come up with lyrics. I would say that Adam is very much a co-composer, regardless of whether he plays an instrument or reads music.
