Adam isn't a composer. He doesn't play musical instruments, read music or write music. I can't believe he never learned any theory. Really?  He should study a little bit of it. You don't look at music the same way when you know the theory behind it. The inner workings of the songs are always fascinating, and your understanding of a song is completely different when you know the theory. I don't know how to explain it better, sorry.  |

Adam isn't a composer. He doesn't play musical instruments, read music or write music. That doesn't mean Adam doesn't have basic knowledge and can sightread for vocal parts or that he doesn't contribute to the creative process. Adam explained the song writing process for TSP on several occasions and explained that the music was already there (the melody and general song was there) and the group of writers would listen to the music and start throwing out ideas for themes depending on how the music made them feel. Now, TSP could have been different, but with Pharrell being the producer and a composer- I'm sure he did a great deal of the actual composing and I'm also sure Adam contributed in any way possible. The interviews I saw Adam explained that they would start with a beat and a chord progression. That is nowhere near a completed song. If you haven't seen it before, watch what songs can be composed using a basic 4 chord progression. Adam has said that he and the collaborators then sing improvisations and come up with a melody they like, come up with lyrics. I would say that Adam is very much a co-composer, regardless of whether he plays an instrument or reads music. that vid was quite good, and these boys are quite funny. Comedic singing...new one !!! |

That particular 4 chord progression is used in the chorus of Get Over It and Cuckoo though  |
