I agree with your theory and your speculating. 8-) A piece is still missing from this puzzle/mystery and I would love to know for sure what it is. Cause I believe that after Enrique, Adam pretty much was going to be offered the job. And then - presto - Randy's butt is firmly planted back on the panel once again. I think your theory holds water, mys*&@^#r. Hugs, mys*&@^#r YUP, he had to again put it all on the line for idol and this time the chairs voted the other way....why...we will never know, but I guess, Lynsey was right, once they had Mariah and Nicki, there was no more room for additional flamboyance and theatrics. Adam was out, once whoever pushed for Nicki had gotten their will. Sucks...and I don't think it will work for them, but for now it is what it is and Adam has to move on and so do we. I wish I could go to Washington.... And sure hope it sells well. Not sure that Adam gets a ton of money from this, as this is a primarily a fundraiser. Adam has done a lot of fundraising this year. Amazing guy! ETA: code fail! forward slash, not backslash, dammit! Sorry, Mimijoy! Can't fix on phone I'm agreeing with all of this. I still think he got the word around August 28 and that's why he deleted his posts. (I remember the date now that Aleksandra answered my question and b/c it's my freaking birthday!) I have often thought about the "Take the Fifth" segment on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen when he was asked who the weakest judge on Idol was and Beth Ditto said, "Please, don't take the Fifth on this one." After hemming and hawing he said Randy, and then "Sorry, Randy," and then said that he had improved so much. It was done with class and he has never bit the hand that fed him, which is amazing to me. (I'm not sure I've mentioned how much I loved that appearance and Beth Ditto. All kinds of awesomeness.) I think I'm ok with this, but then, as Mimijoy[\b] said, I'm realizing I'm having trouble watching the new seasons of other singing compo shows. All I could think when deciding whether to tune into The Voice was how lame the spinning chairs and the self-important judge banter would seem to me, when it was just a fun gimmick to me the first season.
I can't really express disappointment by being a fan of The Voice to stick it to AI or to XFactor to show that AI died when Simon left. I just wish I could watch these once guilty pleasures without any bad associations at all. As I've stated before, I really wish AL's name had never come up for the job at all.
With that said, he probably DID benefit from the publicity. And the 9:30 Club gig is awesome. I go way back to that venue to (could this possibly be?) late 80s.

On the radio question -- right now a few stations are testing Trespassing. They will spin it a few times and see what happens. In a smaller market like Boise, requests and other forms of direct audience response still matter. In the major markets, requests are less important.... EXCEPT for new songs -- like Trespassing -- and for request shows. Major markets in the US have audience measurement usings Arbitron PeopleMeters. In these markets the station's PD will look what a representative sample of people actually do when they play the song. List of PPM markets here: www.allaccess.com/arbitron/markets "This is because it’s harder than we thought to keep listeners tuned in to the station longer than their schedules or preferences allow. Life happens (the phone rings, the commute ends, a song starts that they don’t prefer[/u]) and people tune out for thousands of reasons that are beyond our control. What we can impact is convincing listeners to come back for another “occasion” of listening. Link: www.arbitrontraining.com/Programming/2012Sep13_DayInTheLife.htmIn Canada, the major markets including Toronto has a similar system of Portable People Meters for TV and Radio. The sample sizes in Canada are small and requests still matter in all markets. ETA: I find the Trespassing hair to be a bit disconcerting.

I know I keep going back to the calendar thing but how do we really know that Adam's calendar is empty -- performance-wise, yes but what about all the other stuff he does -- photo shoots, fashion week, creative development, etc. We usually don't know about those anyways. He's been out of the country for most of the summer. Perhaps this is his new balancing act of working and being home with friends and family. I'm an entitledfan, I'm glad he's back in the States for awhile. I'll be back on the east coast in November -- wish I was going to be there next week!

One really fundamental question: why does it matter where we are requesting from? I've been listening to stations from all over the world for many years and I'm hardly going to limit myself to local stations. (I had satellite for a while but then canceled my contract as well).
We know that radio is operating from an antiquated business model that hardly seems to know Internet streaming exists. Is that why somehow out-of-area request are inauthentic? Or perhaps because those wouldn't be relevant to local advertisers/sponsors?
I'm an NPR fiend, and they don't can't where I am listening from. I'll listen to my fave shows produced in DC, or Boston, or Philly. Doesn't make any difference. Is this because they aren't supported by advertising?
Sorry so dense about this! You'd think I'd pick up a little being an armchair observer for four years but business is SO not my area.

I listen to Q102, Philly, on my phone thru their i- Heart radio app! I am in So California!
